For those of you who have memories of the SDS (Students for a Democratic Society)movement in the late 60's:
http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/record-bee/obituary.aspx?n=carl-oglesby&pid=153624184
(probably not available in The Village's Daily Sun)
Sort of ironic that he went to Kent State.

Thank you for sharing this. When in college at MSU (Michigan State University) I lived in the womens' dorm (yes back then we had single sex dorms) which was connected by underground tunnel and lounge areas to the men's dorm where the campus headquarters of SDS were. I will never forget when my then boyfriend told me my father had called him and asked that if things got "out of control" with SDS would he go get me and take me back to his dorm.....never in a million years would I have thought my dad would ask a male to take me back to his dorm....Those were turbulent years. I will never forget the shock and pain of Kent State. To this day other than Good Morning Vietnam I have not watched a single Vietnam movie. Lived it once don't really want to live it again.

Well written obit. As Greek life waned in the late 60's the SDS message rang louder. Definitely the Weathermen faction's notoriety caused public confusion as they were portrayed as a spin-off of the SDS. In truth, they were violence prone and not at all what the SDS stood for.
When my son asked me about the 60's I borrowed the line from A Tale of Two Cities " It was the best of times, it was the worst of times."

The only thing I remember about the SDS morons online was in college is that they kept bursting into our classrooms screaming obscenities wanting to have sexual intercourse with the "Man." I remember them as the screaming bunch of babbling idiots. How do you remember them?

you brought it up. I wasn't commenting on the man. I was commenting on SDS. And I do not have warm fuzzy thoughts about that organization. Sorry you were offended.

I wasn't offended - I never heard of him. I did have experiences with the SDS while at Univ of Ill Chicago Circle in late 60's when I got back from RVN. As I recall, the anti-war grandmothers were more offensive than the SDS.

A screaming bunch of babbling idiots. Probably carrying signs. I think I've seen them recently.

Crosby Stills Nash 4 dead in O Hi O
It was a very confusing time the 60s. Black Panthers, SDS, Weathermen, race riots, Hippies, straights don't trust anyone over 30, the draft, Vietnam. I went to college, a few of my buds couldn't afford it so went to war. Some didn't come back. Those that did had varrying degrees of issues.
Now we have Republicans, Democrats, Tea Party, Iraq, Afghanistan, smokers vs non smokers, gas vs electric carts, economy woes, unemployment, health care uncertainty, world crisis, extemeism.
Same church differnt pew?

Well said....history I think does repeat itself.....and somethings never do change unfortunately the ability of human beings to get along and accept their differences is one of those things......humans are all too ready to vilify anyone who does not think as "I/we" do or agree with what "I/we" want.
