We just signed the papers on a new At Ease. I am on a roller coaster of emotions. One minute I'm giddy with excitement and the next I am ready to toss my cookies wondering "what have we done?". It's not like we came down and did this in 4 days. I've been a wanna befor 5+ yrs. I never anticipated i would have this type of reaction. Has anyone else experienced this?

Oh yes indeed! We were down in July and it took only four days for us! (I still have to sell my house in VA before we move down.) But I have something to look forward to! Congratulations to you!

Funny, we were just talking about that the other day. We came down here in 2008 and purchsed a spec home. We signed all of the papers, feeling like we were on a conveyer belt. You know, Villages Property, Citizens First, Property Management, Villages Insurance, well you take my point. We went out to dinner and we asked each other, "What have we done?" As it turns out it was one of the best decisions in our lives. Welcome!

Spending a large sum of money represents more than just that. It is a whole lifetime of work and saving and sacrifice for most of us.

Naturally it makes us feel frightened. But I think, again like most of us, you will find that this is a wise choice.

The homes here are a quite a bit easier to sell than in other places if you feel this is NOT the place you love.

but ...I betcha you will be so glad you bought your new home.

Hugs and welcome HOME!!

Dear LvmyPug2,

It might comfort you to know that many, many former "soon-to-be"ers-- some of the now happiest people in TV-- once posted of their second-guessing anxiety. Second thoughts over significant life changes are natural. You've done great. It is not for nothing that you've wanted to be a TVer for so long. Trust those instincts. This really is Lower Paradise. Your dream is about to come true.

I'm sending you a hug the size of Texas. Hope it helps.

Love,
P

I am a wannabee who had similar feelings when I thought it would happen sooner than I expected. It's called being human. :)

Gracie was right on as ususal. I think you may realize over time that it was one of the best decisions you made.

Best wishes to live your dream.

As soon as you and your new neighbors have an impromptu driveway party-happy hour, instead of asking "what have we done" you'll be asking "why didn't we do this years ago?".

Simple answer -- You've begun the next journey of your life. If you didn't have doubts and second-guess yourself, I think you'd be abnormal. It's a scary step but one, I think, you'll be glad you took. Congratulations on beginning your journey. May it bring you all the peace and joy you want and deserve.

I had the same reaction, but worse. Cried for days when we got home thinking about all my beautiful things that I could not take. It was so painful to see them all leave my life, piece by piece. Then pturner said to me :do you own your stuff or does it own you? She's right! After that I let it go, but still second quessed myself for months. I woke up every morning thinking WHAT HAVE I DONE? This did not stop until we got here. Now this absolutely feels like home to me. Wonderful people, beautiful surroundings. What more could you ask for?

Good luck....you won't be sorry!

We can empathize.

Last August (never here before) I came down to look and didn't know my wife came down to buy.
We bought a spec house after four days of being here and still had to sell our house in Illinois.
There was a lot of stomach churning but in the end we sold our house and moved down permanently in Jan.
It was a wise move and we couldn't be happier.
This board is great source encouragement and got us through some of the crazy times.

Welcome to Paradise.

THANK YOU ALL!!! I cannot begin to tell you how much your kind words and encouragement has meant to me. Reading that you had similar reactions is very comforting. I can't wait to be a part of such a warm and caring community.

All our friends think we are crazy since we put a deposit on a lot. Our house sold and we are closing on the 17th of Oct. in Pa. We will be having the last laugh when they are shoveling snow and we will be at the pool! Today was my last day at work. Mixed emotions? yes....but once we are down at The Villages, everything will be good.

Wow same for us,

Wife and I sat looking at each other saying" What have we Done!

If not for all the advise comfort and re-assurance from my friends above I would not be feeling like I did a good thing!

The selling of a home, getting rid of furniture that does not fit, the tons of accumulated memories or some call it junk! Shedding a tear as the Silverado " Man Truck" gets sold because my four wheel drive toy will be replaced by a golf cart that needs the garage space.

Then Living in a strange rental for a year looking for things you either boxed up lost or threw out.

Meeting the design team draining your bank accounts etc etc is all part of the new pee wee big adventure!:)

A big life change is probably not easy...even if it is a change you have been looking forward to. When it means relocating to a different part of the country that is a big life change (at least it would be for me). But TOTV is such a helpful resource and full of so many friendly, supportive and wise people who have gone through what you are going through now.

Good luck on your move!!

I wonder if you have waited for this dream so long that you settled into a feeling of being in limbo the rest of your days and now that you have finally done it you have to revisit your original desires and move forward....Like waking up from a dream only to find that your dream came true. Congrats.

Please know that I am just a Wannabe but When I read this to my hubby he totally knew that I would have the same emotions too!
