We had a beautiful black lab when our son was growing up. I know big dogs are not allowed in TV. What do you think the most popular breed in TV? If I were to get one, Bichon or Maltese perhaps. Our friend in TV has Chihuahua. Our grandkids have King Charles Cavalier. Would number one be a Poodle, Cocker Spaniel, Bulldog, Bassett Hound, Pomeranian, Beagle, Schnauzer? Which dog will I meet next time I take a walk there?:)

I don't know where you heard that big dogs were not allowed in The Villages, there is not a restriction on size but there is a restriction on number of pets. It is suppose to be two pets per house but this policy is not enforced unless someone complains.

Gee, TV would be a sad place if it only had little dogs. In my wanderings, I've met a Great Pyrenees (she was on the small side, though -- only 85 lbs); two bull mastiffs; a couple of huskies; German Shepherds, collies, labs and golden retrievers too numerous to count; several different types of spaniels and so on and so forth. And let's not forget all the greyhounds that have been rescued and live happily ever after in TV.
I think the rule is supposed to be a dog no higher than your knee but it certainly isn't enforced.

Love all dogs, but see little white dogs the most here in TV....all different kinds! Big or small, all are allowed. Earlier this year, we lost our big boy, a white standard poodle...2 months shy of 16!

We have a beautiful female Shih tzu, Roxi, about 10 pounds, and we have seen many of this breed in TV. Our dog is the most lovable and smartest one we have ever had and loves people.

We have a shih tzu, too. 8 lbs. As loveable as can be. We have also seen many shih tzu's in TV. All sweet as they can be.

No restrictions on size of dog - I believe the most popular dog is the dog you personally have - because that is the one you love. Don't have a dog because it will fit - or it is what is expected - get the one you want and the one that you will love.

 My most popular dog is the one that stays out of my yard and the shrubs bushes at the postal boxes and the squares. I love dogs and have had Labs and beagles plus mixed and I loved them all. I cringe however when a dog is allowed to prowl through the pine straw to do their thing and then they start to dig and kick behind them the mess.:cus:

We have 2 minature pinchers one black and tan female, Grethel and one red male Hansel. They are a feisty breed. But they will not be official Villagers until the end of Ocober, when we finally move down from NJ.

When we first thought about living in TV, we asked about the dogs. We were told then that you could own as many dogs as you wanted but they could not total 100 lbs.
When we came back this last time we were told the rules were two dogs....
I'm thinking someone must have come in with ten 5lb chihuahuas that they changed the rules.:laugh::laugh:

When we were trying to insure our home we were asked what type of dog we had. She is a Brooklyn Pedgree. We had to discribe her and I mentioned her size (over 100 lbs) and general appearance. I was informed we could not get insurance on our home if our baby ever came down with us. We have never brought her down with us but I have since seen many big dogs. Maybe it's her pedgree they did not like.

So sorry for your loss. We also recently lost our toy poodle. A great dog and great friend. Ours was so smart that I often thought she was telepathic.

Two domestic pets per household, any size. Cats are invisible so they don't count. That is my understanding!
Our rescue dog LolliPop is the greatest dog ever. A 70 lb Portugese Water Dog (see avatar). She had three homes before us, but now she has found her forever home. Our 10 lb Biggins is also very special. They light up our lives!

Cannot wait until you all meet Minnie and Gracie, our Cavachons. Still waiting for the right family to come along and buy our house! We have enjoyed our home and location for many years, but are ready to meet all the dogs and owners in TV !!!

I have a white fluffy Peke a poo, she is around 13 pounds and almost 8 years old. I think it would be great fun to have all the small white dogs in the villages at one of the dog parks for a group picture. Also, it's really nice of our furry friends to let us use their golf carts.:a040:

So much fun and so kind. They think the side of my cyv is a dog run...and
they run and race and play. Lost my 17 year old GD to the Rainbow Bridge
about a month before my move to The Villages. He would have been the
TV mayor!

We have two silly Yorkies, total weight 10 pounds. But they think they weigh 100 pounds. Sammy is 13 years old and Lilly is 4. We are looking forward to golf cart rides in TV with these characters, they have been in the city way too long, me too!
My joy is to see my manly man talk baby talk to the Yorkies or try to crawl in their bed. These dogs brings the love out of a person, especially my manly man and me too.
See yea all soon.

Yes, I feel the same way. I love to see Fireboy (a "manly" fire captain) nurturing my 19 year old cat and my little 10 lb Biggins. He plays silly games on the floor with all the animals. He cleans Lollipop's ears every few days. Dogs sure do inspire unconditional love!

We had a couple of Rat Terriers when we moved here in 2005. Unfortunately both have since passed as they were 16 years old. However, talking about big dogs there is a Dogue de Bourdeaux in our village that my wife adores as she is partial to dogs with pushed in faces. (maybe because she was raised with boxers). This is the same breed in the movie "Turner and Hooch"

The picture above is our maltese Duffy who has captured our hearts and
keeps us laughing. As my husband and I attempt to get up out of a chair we occasionally moan :icon_wink:; Duffy has now chimed in and we now have stereo moans. Too funny.

Holy Moley ... I just googled Dogue de Bourdeaux, now that is a dog I'd like to send over to Fumar's house.

Thanks ...too soon for another dog, huge shoes to fill and all that. We know that a dog in need will find us when the time is right. If I were wealthy, I would buy a giant farm and have tons of dogs with a full time vet iin residence!!!

Me too Salpal. If I won a lottery I'd have a sanctuary for dogs, horses, chimps, all the vulnerable animals that have suffered so much abuse at the hands of humans.

This is the Poinciana couple's second Dogue de Bourdeaux (French bull mastiff or French mastiff) in TV. I believe their first got cancer. He was a sweetie until he developed a thyroid issue. Once he was put on medication, he was back to his cheerful, lovable self. Love these dogs but not their drool. Another French bull mastiff lived in Amelia. Sugarbear was an absolute doll baby. Sadly, she died of a brain tumor. I'd only watched her a few times but cried when I got the news.
If you can't tell I love big dogs. I have to stop every time I see one and hope I can pet it. I love all dogs, but big dogs just melt me.

Well My wife thinks that the dog is a pain in the ----. The way she talks to it is so bad.
Never walks the poor thing. Oh wait does the dogs you are talking about all have four legs. I have only two and have been in the dog house for years.

I talked to my dogs about your idea of having a group picture of all the small white dogs owned by TOTV members. LolliPop and Biggins feel left out, they want to know if black dogs can come and watch.
