Who has the Aspen designer model and tell me why you made the choice please.

From the model tour, I like the openness of the kitchen, dining room, living room and additional windows. It seems very bright.

Thank you

Hi again jhoo..Aspen is newer model, probably just in early 2011 as we viewed one in March and were told that the group of 4 homes on Paisley were "experimental" models - to get people's reactions. They were not even on the website then, though they are there now and appeared about when Sanibel was opened. We liked this plan also as we don't really "need" a dining room! There are lots of others with that openess and light so have fun! We are 99% the Gardenia will be our choice.:)

Now listen up you silly Frog's, I'm trying to figure out what model we want to purchase. You all are giving me rear end info, too much for my senses to comprehend. Just thinking about your rear running out of ink Bill, makes me think you just had a colonoscopy. Phew!!!

We will be leaving California the first week of November, with my Dad, two Yorkies and two to be frog's. We will be renting a place for two months, checking out the various model-homes. We can hardly wait to be with you funny people. Plus we want to check out your rear-ends. So Gracie you better get your's detailed.:a040:

We are currently leaning toward an Aspen. We have our lot picked out and just waiting for the house to sell. Originally we were going for a Gardenia, however, one of the reasons we liked the Aspen was the true 3rd bedroom with a closet. The Gardenia has a den. The Aspen has a bigger lanai, a linen closet near the guest bedrooms and a linen closet in the master bath. The living area is a bit bigger, however, the kitchen is a bit smaller but ok for us. Our dilemma is choosing between the Aspen and the Elm. Hopes this helps.

We bought an Aspen and we close on it on 3-14-12. We chose the Aspen because we are downsizing from 3200 sq. ft. to 1950 sq. ft. and we asked ourselves "what can we best do without?". We haven't used our dining room more than three times in the last 8 years. OK, we can do without the dining room. We thought the dining room and the nook were unnecessary.

Our second criteria was to have an open, bright floor-plan. The Aspen certainly is open and bright.

We also spend a lot of time on the patio and deck of our Northern home and we think we will be spending lots of time in our lanai. The Aspen has a real nice lanai which we are making 8' wider. So the lanai will be 28' x 19' 4". Room for a bowling alley? :22yikes:

We are closing on our Aspen today (in one hour). We like it because it has no dining room and is very open ... It has a big feeling! The Villages designers were very flexible; we got everything we wanted.

Hello,
We are also interested in the Aspen model. Did you make any stretches to the existing floor plan? Do you feel the master closet is large enough? We are not able to come down and check out this floor plan, so I would appreciate any advice you could provide.
Thanks in advance and congratulations!

We just closed on our Aspen and are very pleased with the changes we were allowed to make. Our changes included: a three car garage, a two foot stretch across the entire front and side of the house, the living room wall pushed back and straightened out to allow for stackable sliders and extending the lanai back so it is about 14 ft by 28ft. We also added a 10ft by 20 ft patio off of the lanai. We worked with Patty Boyd at the design center and she was able to accommodate all of our ideas and also offered some suggestions of her own that we really liked. Also, we changed the front elevation to include two "eyebrow" windows in the front with a gable roof in the second bedroom and a wider arch across the front. That is a combination of two of the elevations that are shown for the Aspen. We are very happy with the result. One more thing.....we took out the tub in the guest bathroom and added a shower. We chose the Aspen because it did not have a formal dining room and the living room is a nice size especially after we pushed the back wall out and straightened it out. We felt the master bedroom closet was large enough for our needs after we changed one side of the closet to have two rods and one shelf instead of just one rod.

Hi mandmrem - I love the changes you made. I really am starting to prefer the Aspen over my original choice- Gardenia. Ialso do not think I need a DR.

Did you stretch the LR side of the house, or the master BR side of the house. How did the garage become a 3-car, was it a side stretch? Also, is the kitchen large enough for an island, and if so, did you choose one.

Thanks...

The side stretch for our Aspen was along the living room side of the house. This also stretched the second bedroom and the guest bathroom which allowed us to remove the tub and put in a shower. This two foot side stretch also gave us an additional closet off of the guest bathroom....a nice bonus. The extra two feet in the living room makes it quite spacious. The three car garage....my husband's dream come true...was stretched to the other side of the house. We didn't expand the kitchen at all and I don't think it would accommodate an island. From comments I have read, I might not be spending too much time in the kitchen. That works for me!

The stretch choices sound great. Love that you gain an extra closet, can never have too much storage. Would there have been an option to extend the garage stretch back to include a Kitche stretc. I really love having an island in the kitchen... The Hubby loves to cook...

Mandmrem,

Your ideas all sound wonderful. Thanks for sharing. It was good to hear that you were able to include all your wishes. I 'm glad to hear you can also get a third garage instead of just a golf cart garge. Now, our goal is to sell our home and pursue the dream.

I want to see the Aspen when we are down in April...I too don't think I need an additional dinning area....seems though that the goolf cart garage is not standard though...so adds more cost...right?

we are also building an Aspen -- I didn't see the need for two eating areas. The golf cart garage is about $10,000.

Be sure and check out the Fern if you do not care about a seperate dining room but want a big kitchen andn a house with bigger bedrooms. It also has the largest oeclosed outdoor space. It was my favorite only my hubby won out and we ended up with a Lilac because he wanted the golf car garage. No matter what you choose you will be happy I am sure.TV is a great place to visit and soon we will be there too after a zillion visits ..

Did you have to buy a bigger lot to get all of these thing done to your new home?

Yep. Most lots won't accomodate the stretches or third garage. We did the third garage and then could only stretch the front 2'. But, we love our lot choice and wouldn't change it. The Aspen was big enough for us except for the guest bedrooms.

I don't have an Aspen, but it is my current favorite floor plan. I like the open feeling, but the two top reasons the master bedroom is tucked behind the kitchen and you don't see the bed while standing in the kitchen - a very common thing in most floor plans. And, I love the bathroom!

My husband and I just returned from our LSV. We are trying to decide between the Aspen & Iris. We do not want a formal Dining area, either, if we select the Iris, plan to incorporate the Dining corner into the Living Room. The biggest downside of the Iris, in our opinion, is the location of the master bath sinks. Why would the builder put them both in the same corner. Does not sound good, at all. We would definitely reconfigure them to the same wall that the window is located on, and relocate the linen closet to the wall adjacent to the shower. I love all the suggestions on this board and have taken good notes. Thanks, everyone.

We just designed our Ivy (same look and feel as Lily, Lilac, Iris, Lantana). I am not a "make up/vanity" person...so our designer suggested bringing that vanity area up to the same height as the rest of the counter and moving the sink down so that corner is not so crowded. I don't believe there was a charge for that...HOWEVER, we are not getting granite yet...she said be prepared for the day when you get granite that it will be expensive because we did that. I guess having the lower sections allows them to cut the granite...having that section be the same height as the rest of the counter means paying out the wa-zoo for a continous piece of granite (unless you don't mind a seam). Hope that makes sense!

Only drwaback we can see, no closet in the 3 rd bedrm, which is really a den or office
But otherwise, love the Gardenia!

Thank you

I love my Aspen because the main area is bright with natural light and there is no wasted space like a breakfast nook and a dining room and counter seating. The master bedroom is huge and LOVE the walk in shower. Look at the ELM too. I doubt you will miss a bit of space in the master with the ELM and the 2 other bedrooms almost have their own suite in the ELM. Best wishes.

we selected this model for the reasons you mentioned , loved the openess, also did not want a dining room and breakfast nook and table on lanai. Just the 2 of us, we would have to take turns eating in different rooms!

Good luck with your decision, cause all the models are beautiful

We bought an Aspen in January. It was my first choice of models bc I didn't need a dining room. I put a 72"glass table that seats 6 in the kitchen area, plus 2 bar stools. Also have an extended lanai with a 42" table- plenty of places to eat!! Bought it pre built and it had everything we wanted- 2 1/2 garage, stretches on front bedroom, tile, and extended lanai. Like that the Aspen did not have 4 windows in the master bedroom. More wall space for furniture. Great design and plenty big enough for two people. Get back to me if you want to see it.

We moved into our Aspen last June. We absolutely love our choice. The openness of the plan, the privacy for the guest suite, the proximity of the laundry to the master bedroom and the size of the master are just a few reasons we chose this model. We are very happy with our decision.

Hi, we own an Aspen Model. We were very torn between the Gardenia and the Aspen. We liked the double sliders since we were having a pool installed, it gave us a great view of the lani pool. Also, in my previous Villages home, we had a dining area that we Never used. I liked having one dining area and more entertaining space. thanks

I just bought the Aspen and moved in two weeks ago. I really liked the floor plan particularly the fact that there was only one eating area (not including the counter) They use the space from the dining room to enlarge the master bedroom and family (living) room. Also, the lanai is bigger than most models in the same price range. Russ

We looked at an Aspen and about 30 others. We also looked at the location, ability add to the back or side for screened patio or birdcage, :welcome:and orientation.
We had a great realtor Alicia Ford who found the best house for us based on what we liked. It was not an Aspen ,but an Elm. We have been in it for 4 months and love the open similar to the Aspen. Good luck in your search.
