Has anyone ever tried plastic wrap on the front of your hood to keep love bugs off? I think I'll run a test. It may be a bit of a challenge but I'll give it a shot. I know that you can have some kind of permanent protective coating installed.

George, There was a movie I posted about Vaseline doing a good job. Have you tried it?
How would you keep the plastic wrap on at.... What do you drive? 60 mph?

If you cover the radiator grill, than your engine wouldn't get the air it needs...

Wouldn't the heat from the motor melt the plastic wrap to the paint?

Gracie is correct.....as usual.
Back north we have a problem with "sand flies". They're ALMOST as bad as lovebugs.....but not quite. Some people put a type of screening in the front of their vehicles and it seems to help.
Now who is going to be the bright soul to invent a screen for golf carts?

1) Vaseline might be a PIA to get off.
2) Never intended to cover the grill.
3) Don't know about engine heat melting the plastic wrap but I don't think it will. I'd be more worried about the heat from the sun.
I covered one side mirror and one headlight for a test. I'm driving to Orlando tomorrow so that will be a good test for it staying on.
I know it's a bit of a crazy idea but that's how most inventions start.

That's true... but the bugs??? ewwwww
As to the crazy idea.... Why not??? They said the Wright Brothers couldn't sail either and look what happened!!! :a040:
Kidding aside... Let us know!

Here's the ticket:

It's a bit like a heavier Saran Wrap. But believe me, it does the job! A friend and I drove a car he bought from NY to OH a few years back. He'd bought the Road Wrap before we left OH to go get the car. We applied it to the clean car before we started the road trip back and it worked out great! Not intended as a rock protector but it certainly seemed as though it would do well if small pebbles, etc. flew up off the road. It's also intended to be left on temporarily.

That's cool Bill and it gave me another idea. My BIL is a mover, when I moved down here he gave me a large roll of the plastic that stores use to contain packages on a pallet. I forgot I still have it. Time to RAP!

There was a thread a while back about an airplane window product that keeps them clean and makes bug removal easier. I believe someone stated that you could use it on the hood also. It's called All-Kleer. I bought some online but haven't tried it yet.

My plastic wrap experiment flopped. The plastic wrap didn't stay on the front of my vehicle very long at all. It started coming off at 30mph. However, it did stay on the side view mirrors back and forth to the airport so it wasn't a total flop. Back to the drawing board.

I expect you're referring to leaving the windshield down. Try an adjustable window screen found at hardware stores. Fits and works perfect on my Polaris.

George, the Road Wrap stuff will work. It has an adhesive on it. Applied to a clean surface, you'll have no problems with it.

Thanks Bill. I'll have to do a little more thinking on it because i don't know if I like the idea of adhesive on my paint. It may come down to the lesser of two evils. (Bugs or adhesive) Hmmmmmmmmm.

its a no-brainer if you have a nice car....the bugs will wash with a little soap and water

I am a retired Fireman from Florida and we used to us Pam cooking spray on the front of the trucks. Nothing can stick. You have to apply it about every other day. I have never seen it hurt the paint and or crome. I still us it today on my POV if I am traveling in Lovebug season.

To add further explanation to the "adhesive": It seemed to me that it was more just a 'tackiness' (as in 'sticky'! :) ) on the backside of the wrap rather than a true really sticky adhesive like we all might perceive. Extremely easy to remove - didn't tear apart in little strips or anything. There was absolutely no residue, etc. when we took the wrap off the car once we got back to OH. And as I mentioned in a prior post, it held on the car really well, even through some pretty strong rains!
My friend was more interested in keeping things from harming the paint (minor rock chips, etc.) rather than having the wrap on the car as a bug protector though it was nice to not have to clean bugs off when the trip was over. So we layered around 3 strips of the wrap across the front of the car (fully painted, no grille per se). Worked out just fine! He was paranoid as heck about the paint as he wanted to get the more permanent clear paint protector film installed after he got home......but that's another story! :D

OK, I'm sold. Are you sure you don't have stock in the company? You're quite the salesman!
Thanks!

Thanks Bill
I've been looking for something like this for the Car and Harley on trips.
What a great idea! I'm sure it does not go down that smooth but who cares the protection is there!

Ha-ha! Nope - no stock in the company. And I hope the verbiage didn't all come across as being "salesy" (is that even a word??? :) ). Just trying to fill in any info gaps to help avoid anyone making assumptions about the product. Thanks!
Thanks Bill

You're right - it's not real pretty, especially on contoured surfaces. It doesn't stretch like Saran Wrap so you're bound to have wrinkles. But it DOES do the job! JMHO. Thanks!
Bill :)
