In the past I have praised using PODS for moving to The Villages. No more!

Today, I was informed that the Ocala manager is implementing a $150 surcharge for PODS that are delivered to the 32162 zip code. I found this out when I went to change my delivery date and was told that this because our area is outside their "normal" delivery area and this would be classified as an extended delivery area.

I was already annoyed that it was going to cost me about $400 more than last December for the same size POD I used for the first half of our move! Now, after I already have this POD in my driveway and almost full they drop this on me, I am infuriated! :cus:

UPDATE: I got a call from the corporate offices and the surcharge has been removed. This has been very stressful!

That's really not fair, we were told by Pods that TV was local to Ocala.

We had a pod in Orlando, but my husband and son got a Uhaul and unloaded it there, and drove the Uhaul here.

Sounds to me more like a kick back due to all the PODS coming to TV!

Are these POD franchises? If so contact corp.

Good idea.

Kandj, it does seem very wrong for them to change the price of your delivery after you already have your stuff stored with them! If you don't get satisfaction from corporate, I would also report the Ocala operation to Crime Against Seniors.

Good luck. I hate to see people being taken advantage of. Please let us know how this turns out.

I was considering using a Pod, but this is a game changer. Do all "cube" go to the same place?

Sounds to me it maybe something the Ocala Manager is doing and I would go to Corporate about this. I had some dealings with the Ocala Manager and without going into details. He is a handful to deal with and turned what was a great experience with PODS into I would think twice about using them again.

My two cents on subject.

Our POD has been in Occala storage for 3 months and we scheduled delivery for 10/5 at a cost of 79.00 to The new village of Sanibel.

I warned them this morning that I was going to post about this on a forum for potential Villagers to let them know about this. I told the agent that I spoke with that I had posted many times about my satisfaction with my move last year (first half of our move) to a site that had a large following of folks that were planning to move to TV.

I stated that if I did not get a phone call telling me that the manager had changed his position that I was going to post about this surcharge to that same forum. Apparantly, he didn't take me seriously.

Guess he didn't know who he was messing with, nor that I was getting ready to pettition to "join the posse".

Thanks for all this info. I had already made up my mind that I would use Pods when I move down in the Spring, as I felt they were a well established company and I should be able to rely on their good business practices. Obviously I need to pay attention and do some more homework before I choose them. There are lots of options when it comes to moving time, and maybe Pods is not the best choice after all.

You can try U-Pack's Relo-Cube (http://www.upack.com/moving-services/moving-container.asp) instead. They can give you a quote right on-line.

I am very much leaning towards using ABF Relocubes.....

I know posting here will get a few folks to rethink using PODS but did you contact corporate PODS to get it figured out? The PODS Ocala site list The Villages as an Ocala delivery point.

I have a POD sitting in my drivway in Ohio right now. It is going to be picked up next week and delivered to our new used home on October 5th. I just called PODS corprate, they said the price quote is the price. There will be NO other charges tacked on. If anyone tries to put on a surcharge I am to contact my PODS rep.

My order was placed through the corporate site. My understanding based on my calls yesterday was that the manager at the local franchise has the final word. Once I get my POD delivered safely with it's contents, I will be contacting the BBB. At this point, I don't want something to happen to my possesions over this, but I wanted to warn others so they don't run into this problem.

I just got a call from Don at PODS corporate offices. He is going to be looking into the issue.

I will update this when I hear back from him!

I hope you get this resolved, but let me tell you, even with the $150 surcharge, you will come out way ahead. Our move was extremely expensive and we used one of the big national companies. The move was horrific...starting with them not showing up the day they were supposed to (no call, just did not show up)...we had to call company to find out what was going on. They said they did not know he was not going to show up. Once our stuff was delivered, there was so much damage, I was just about in tears. Deep scratches, pieces of wood missing or broken off my antiques, things dented, hinges sprung, etc. We are in the process of filing a claim. If we could have gotten a PODS we would have; however the closest one was over 200 miles away and they would not come out to where we live.

Hi Don from the corporate offices called again and has removed the "surcharge" that the Ocala manager tried to charge me. He also set the delivery date to the one I had requested.

I think the person that was trying to assist me sent a message up to the corporate offices because HE called me before I had a chance to call them this morning.

Now, I just hope that the rest of this goes like our POD delivery last December. It's tough to do a multi-stage move!

Kandj, I'm so glad this is working out for you.... Just the same, thanks for the heads up so the rest of us can confirm the final price before we sign the contract. As Ladydoc said... using the full service companies can sometimes have even more problems then the PODS!

Make it a GREAT day!

Thanks for posting this. I plan to use pods when I move so I will be on the lookout for any surcharges that were not agreed upon.

From Baltimore to TV I was going to use ABF Relocubes, it would of been 4 cubes for $2750 from driveway to driveway. However Mayflower gave me an estimate of $2850 and that included all the labor on both ends, wheaeas ABF you have to hire the labor.

As it turned out, Mayflower was late delivering our furniture, it was suppose to be delivered on July 8th and it wasn't delivered until July 24th. However the next day I filed a late claim via email to their Chicago main office and 3 days later I had a check in my mail box for $2,000. I had to give the driver a certified check for $2850 but they gave me a rebate of $125 a day for everyday they were late.

Kim, you rock! Glad you got that straightened out.

P.S. Love the avatar. Your grandson is a cutey pie. Now, where's a picture of the new guy?

Silly me, I am heading back home on Friday and just tonight realized that I never got a pic of me with the 2 grandkids! Oh well, will have to wait until the holidays. The new little guy really doesn't know if we are there or not. I really enjoy the 2 yo though. I know it sounds sacriledge, but I was never overly fond of infants - excluding the first grandchild. I really enjoy when they can interact with you!

Maybe I should just use the pic of the familly the day the latest one came home from the hospital. Think anyone will notice what their favorite sport/team is?

Kim you are helping all of us by effectively letting them know that it wasn't right to change the charges. Good for you.
