I heard a rumor the other day that the reason the fees are much higher than any other championship course is that Arnie, via a lawsuit against The Villages, collects an additional $10/round. The story goes that he couldn't finish the 3rd nine holes on schedule, so The Villages contracted someone else to complete. Later Arnie came back to finish the job, only to find out it was already done. Is there any truth to this? :cus:

There was a prior thread on TOTV that part of the fee for every round at AP goes to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children or other charitable causes. That was part of the reason why fees are higher there.
Will be interesting to hear others' take on this...
Here's the old thread:

[QUOTE=villages07;397963]There was a prior thread on TOTV that part of the fee for every round at AP goes to Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children or other charitable causes. That was part of the reason why fees are higher there.
That's my understanding too.
Others say it's because Arnie designed 18 holes and when he saw another 9 he was going to pull his name off. When he played Riley Grove it became his favorite...... I love the course and pay much more up here for less quality...
Another story goes that if he ever notices a decline in the course conditions he will pull his name off which explains why it is always in better condition than most... Additional maintainance costs?
Like Lopez, I think Nancy would have a problem if they let her course slip as she lives and plays there......just sayin'

There is NO TRUTH in this.Mr Palmer was paid to design the course,he does not collect anything else.Items sold in the Golf Shop also do not get any money sent to him. Some where this neds to stop.Prices are only about $5.00 higher that Lopez or Glenview.

Palmer is $9.00 higher than Lopez - $10.00 higher than Glenview - $16.00 higher than OBG - $14.00 higher than HH - $12.00 higher than Tierra. Like Glenview, Cane, Mallory, and Havana are $10.00 less than Palmer. This is until the price change 10/15/11 and all prices are before 11 a.m.
