Ahhhhhhh TV la la land just slapped me with my first reality check.
I was told by my insurance company enjoy Florida but no Home Owners?
OK I called USSA and heard Ahhhhhhhhh sorry we won't write in Florida.
So OK Gang HELP where do we go for Homeowners? Or do we stay home!

Herv - Here are a couple of recent threads re: H.O. insurance:

https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/showthread.php?t=42495
FWIW, we got our homeowner's policy late last year with Security First Insurance. The agency we got it through is Brightway Insurance out of Jacksonville - owner/agent I dealt with was Rita Canty (904) 646-1850. They represent nearly all the companies that offer h.o. coverage in FL - most of the other agencies I checked with for coverage only represented a few.
We also got hurricane and sinkhole coverage as part of the policy. See this prior thread for some of the info I posted regarding the interesting process of getting sinkhole coverage via this particular company:
https://www.talkofthevillages.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36732
From what I understand from talking with Rita recently, more and more insurance companies are starting to require a 3rd party sinkhole inspection and certification prior to issuing a policy that covers it. A good topic to cover with any agent while you're discussing the parameters of getting a H.O. policy!

I have homeowners insurance thru USAA but I have been insured with them for over 50 years so that's probably why they are covering me. I was unaware that they are not writing new homeowners policies in Florida.

USAA stopped writing new homeowner policies in florida around 2008 with the exception of active duty military being transferred into Florida. Being with USAA 40-50 years does not matter. HOwever I thought they were providing homeowners insurance through a subsidary company.
BTW just got my renewal USAA homeowners policy and it went UP $300 from last year.

Are we going to bear the burdon again from all who live on the coasts in harms way?
Rates jumping $300 a year is pretty darn steep.

AAA is going to farm out our home insurance. AAA only covers a home if a roof is not over 15 years old. Our roof is 16 years old so they found another company for our home.

I left State Farm. They treated my daughter in the Air Force and my Sons Army and Navy like crap.
Each had their own policy for 10 years and because they were deployed to war but still had our home address with Dad State Farm threatned to cancel me after 45 years.
State Farm did cancel the kids. Daughter is in Intel she went to USAA. I told State Farm to bag it in so many words. They had to Gall to call me and ask for more policies and insurance plans after they dumped the kids! Discrimination against disabled vets and full time military makes me ill.
So State Farm said goodbye would not write you in Fla good Luck! USSA said we will do you car golf cart, no Harley and no Home owners!
So this Thread is helping me decied what Ruth and I will do when we move in next July-

We just bought our homeowners insurance, flood insurance, and sink hole insurance. The sinkhole insurance is subject to testing which you pay for up front. The catch is they won't test until your house is 95% complete. That can be tricky! The insurance company investigated and said there has not been anyone fail or be denied sink hole insurance in our neighborhood. Seeing my house is up but not near 95% complete I don't have much choice. If I knew this before hand I would have had my property tested before building.

I originally got my homeowners through The Villages Insurance company but when I went to get auto insurance at AAA they offered a better and less expensive homeowners policy (with sinkhole coverage) if I bundled it with my auto insurance than I was getting through TV Ins.
