I am not saying this is my preference but.....

1. White Zinfandel
2. Chardonnay
3. Pinot Grigio (Pinot Gris)
4. Sauvignon Blanc
5. Merlot
6. Rose
7. Cab. Sauvignon
8. Sparkling Wine
9. Pinot Noir
10. Shiraz (Sirah)
11. Zinfandel
12. Riesling
13. Viognier
14. Champagne

With Florida's climate, added more whites at the top rather than reds. Any thoughts? Wonder what the Country Club restaurants carry?

I really like a good Rose wine in the summer but it is hard to find. I checked at GarVino's and they have none. The only place I have found to carry it is at Total Wine or ABC.

and don't forget Beaujolais Nouveau - released on the third Thursday in November

not to everyone's taste, but usually a nice, light, fruity wine best served moderately chilled

also, lower in alcohol than many wines these days, so good for parties over the Christmas/New Year season

My favorite white is Monchoff Reisling...it's light with a slightly lemony finish...hard to describe but I love it. For red, I'd probably go with a syrah or malbec...(actually, anything in a box with popcorn while watching tv...can't mentally justify tossing back a $20 or $30 bottle of wine while watching NCIS) :)

........mmmmm..........WE only shop at "TARR-JAY" and "WALTON'S". ( that bees Target and Wal-Mart )...........Once a year we take a little foray into "The Rack" ( that is Nordstrom's Close-out Store ) but just for a lookee see....IF we have enough gas money to get to Orlando ........... NOW... back ON POINT our wines are #5 and #10 .... UNDER 3 bucks at "Walton's"....and # 12 when we save up for the good stuff.

TednRobin If you are going to do a Beaujolais party why don't you do on that Thursday of Beaujolais Nouveau release with a little bit of cheese, a salami and a baguette? Each could bring your own set. Don't know how this year's grape will turn out but usually Louis Jadot does a fairly decent job. Don't know whether any of the stores will carry them. If not, any Beaujolais would be great. Incidentally, one of my friends had a Valentine party and he offered St. Amour and a red rose to the ladies. It was a big hit. I wished I had thought of that.

Chuckinca and Brit. Yesterday we went to a Virginia Wine Festival held at Mt. Vernon George Washington's Estate and had Vionier from Horton Cellars. Horton is a pioneer in Virginia winery and their Vionier is pretty good though don't expect Condriue. Saw posting about U.S. wines outside of west coast and perhaps Finger Lakes, NY to be not up to standard but Virginia wines are getting very good except value for money, I think they lose out.

My dad has made homemade wine since before I was born. He just finished making this year's batch. Dad makes very sweet wine, but that's the only wine I ever drank (in very small glasses) before going to college. Tasting a dry wine was quite an experience after drinking my dad's wine, but now I drink chardonnay, chablis, pinot grigio and occasionally merlot and pinot noir. Haven't had my dad's wine for years -- way to sweet for me. Cheers! :wine:

Where are all the Italians out there? No one likes chianti?

Chianti, but only from the Chianti Classico region. You'll know the bottle by the symbolic black rooster on the label. Only chianti from that region can use the black rooster.

The Black Rooster http://www.discovertuscany.com/img/thumb/black-rooster.jpg

"The Chianti Classico seal is a black rooster (Gallo Nero in Italian) on gold. Legend has it that in 13th century, Florence and Siena decided to (hold) a funny horse race to end their (dispute) for (the fertile land of) Chianti. The meeting point of two (mounted) knights, who left respectively from Florence and from Siena when the rooster sang at dawn, would be the border of their territories. Florentines got a black rooster and kept it for a few days in a box with no food. On the race day when they took the rooster out of the box he sang much earlier than dawn and the Florentine knight left before the Sienese one and met him only 20 km from Siena walls. Since then the black rooster has been the symbol of Chianti: first of the Chianti League in 13th century and then of the Chianti Classico Consortium." Chianti Classico.

Fascinating these Italians. C'mon.......admit it .......you never knew the signifcance of the black rooster but you will look for it in the Chianti section on your next trip for spirits....even if you don't like chianti.

Further, you will really sound impressive and informed at your next wine tasting party when you explain to guests the legend of the "Black Rooster".

these are made for tourists, so cost more even though the wine they contain is usually low-end

My favorite red is a good old vine Zin. But don't order a Zin at Longhorn. Don't remember the label, but it was not good at all. Favorite white is Pino Grigio or Riesling.

I generally prefer reds. And yes Bare, I do remember those Chianti bottles in baskets with the candle wax. Might be why I've never developed a taste for Chianti. No wait, I did have a Chianti once at an Italian restaurant that I liked a lot, though I've had some I didn't care for at Italian restaurants. I don't remember the one I liked, but perhaps, as Cabo advises, it had a black rooster. Must remember that and try one just to see if I like it.

Last night a friend brought a bottle of rose from Biltmore Eatate in Ashville, NC. They actually have a winery there. It was called Christmas in Biltmore. This 2009 Cabernet Franc was not bad. Cabernet Franc of Chinon is very popular in Paris not expensive. I like it. Popular white wines in Paris I think is Sauvignion Blanc from Entre des Mere but this was ions ago. Probably the tastes may have changed.

I am sure Pinot Noir was not great. I hear Pinot Noir grapes are so difficult to raise and Burgandy is where you find great Pinots but so expensive. I think the movie Sideways had a seen where Byron was offered but that's pricey too. If you have reasonably priced good Pinot Noir, let me know. By the way, how do you make background color for the quote?:)

Enjoy Seghesio Zins. Try this one if you see it in your wine store:

2009 Old Vine Zinfandel

92 pts Wine Spectator. Beautiful nose of crushed rose petals and red raspberry. Flavors of ripe black cherry, raspberry and spiced fruit with tones of French oak.

Runs about $35 a bottle retail, but well worth the price.

Kentucky Blue. I know Oregon produces good Pinot Noir. I would ask how much might Domaine Serene be. If the price is high then I would prefer getting a bottle of Burgandy. Will it be within $15-20 range? If so, I'll try it.

Domaine Serene starts in the $40 range, but a really good Pinot Noir from Oregon, in the $20 range, is Argyle.Kosta Browne is another top of the line Pinot, but very pricey. It's great for a special occasion, like buying your first home in TV or having your "significant other" actually admit she was wrong:) :wine:

ABC sell a wine called, "The Ball Buster". A combination of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from Barossa Valley.

On the back of the bottle, it reads. I wanted to name this wine, "Michelle' Block", after my wife. But that conjures up vision's of a soft and elegant sort of wine and trust me mates, this little beauty is nothing like that. She's broad shouldered, built like a stallion and pack's an intensity of flavor like only the Barossa can deliver. She's what I call, "The Ball Buster" mate, and so is this wine. Enjoy it, cheers!

I bet you he walks funny!!!!

I am not a wine expert, but it tastes very good. IMHO
