I just realized that I never introduced myself to the crowd and I'm sorry for not following protocol. I'm a single 60-something from Minnesota who has only been to Florida a couple of times but know enough friends and family in the Villages to know that this is the place for me.
I'm going to retire in early 2013 and can't wait to hit the golf courses, join a singles group, study cooking and nutrition, and just enjoy the southern lifestyle.
I spent 23 years in the Army and have one son who has been to Iraq on two tours and another son who is just embarking on his military career.
I am a cancer survivor who is looking to help others who are confronting the disease and I can't wait to move south.
Really, I just can't wait to meet you all because you seem like my kind of people.
See you soon!

Hello mgjim. Thanks for taking the time to formally introduce yourself. Sounds like you've had quite a life and a couple of great children. I don't want to wish away time, but I know you can't wait for 2013! It is really an amazing lifestyle here in TV. Welcome to the forum.

Mgjim, I see in your header Korea listed twice and you were in the Army. I'm 61 and was in Korea in the Army in 1970/71 for 13 months. I was in 2nd Division stationed at Stanton Army Airfield in the DMZ. Were you around then?
When I got out of Air Traffic Controller school at Ft. Rucker, AL I had orders for Nam but three days later they cancelled them and then a month later I got new orders for Korea.

John,
My first tour in the ROK was 1972/73 and had a similar experience. I trained at Fort Sill and was actually in line to go to RVN when I processed through Oakland Army Base. They pulled me out of line, took away my jungle fatigues and sent me to Korea instead. I was assigned to 2nd Admin at Camp Casey (great use of my artillery training) and then served two more tours, both in 8th Army units in Seoul.
I'll look you up when I get to TV.
Jim

Welcome, mgjim! It's wonderful here! As you get closer to moving down here, make sure to read zcaveman's "nuts and bolts" posts -- lots of really helpful information there.
Thank you for your service. My husband was in the military and spent some time in Korea (but he was in the Air Force.) The way I see it, it's thanks to the sacrifice of people like you that we live in a country where there's the option to live in a place as great as The Villages!

Wow, what a lot of warm welcomes and neighborly comments. I knew that I was making a good choice when I decided to make TV my second childhood home and you've all just confirmed that for me over and over again. I can't wait to meet you in person. See you soon (but not soon enough)!

mgjim,
What part of Minnesota are you from? I lived in Minneapolis from grade school until junior year of high school. Great city.

Maple Grove, northwest of Minneapolis but still part of the metro.
I moved here after the Army because of the quality of life, great schools, and closeness to family. Now I want to play golf, my kids are grown, and most of my family is moving to Florida.
