I can only relate my experience with Lange Eye. I've had glaucoma for 5 years and upon moving here in May, made an appointment with Lange Eye as it was time for my regular pressure check. I chose Lange Eye only from seeing the large building. I had an appointment with a Dr. Schramm who gave me a very thorough examination and did several glaucoma tests confirming that it appeared I did have glaucoma. He gave me a new generic eye drop and asked me to come back in a month to check the pressure again to see if the generic drops were doing the job that the ones I had been using for years (Travatan Z) had been doing. A week or so before my return appointment I was called by Lange informing me that Dr. Schramm would no longer be coming to TV and I'd have to go to Ocala if I wanted to see him. I did NOT want to travel to Ocala so she said she could make me an appointment with another doctor but it would be several weeks. I decided to seek another doctor, did some research and decided on Dr. ElMallah with Ocala Eye at Laurel Manor. It was a few weeks before I could get an appointment and when I went Dr. ElMallah wanted to know why I had gone to Lange as they were all Optometrists and not Opthamologists and I needed to be seen by an MD. Anyway, the appointment at Ocala Eye took 3 hours and I am probably going to seek another group. We are also looking at Preferred Care so I will be anxious to hear of recommendations also.

Forgot to add. I have not been able to find a provider for glaucoma on the Preferred Care website anywhere near TV so this may be a deal breaker for us and PCP.

I have glaucoma and have been using Ocala Eye. Their waits are so long. Next year I will be on Preferred Care Partners. I see Dr Seaborn Hunt of Lange is on the plan. He is an ophthalmologist. Also, Mid-Fllrida eye is on441 near Stonecrest and a site in Leesburg.
I'm researching the glaucoma docs too for next year. Hope for replies on Lang or Mid-Florida

Thanks, I must be doing something wrong on their website as I do not see Dr. Hunt listed, nor Mid Fl Eye.

I really WANT to hear replies of folks who've actually been seen at either of these two clinics!!!! Ocala Eye is not in network, nor will be (I called) with PCP which is unfortunate!! To make a change can be scarey as I too had been monitored for glaucoma due to increased eye pressure. I've now gone nearly 2 years though with, within normal pressure, so am back to once a year checks!!! BUT have other medical issues that can affect the eyes and really want good, reliable practioners.

Totally agree with you JenAjd! This is our first look at a Medicare Advantage Plan and I guess the biggest negative is the providers (doctors) can go and come as they please, at least yearly. When you have an ongoing condition such as glaucoma it is very hard to "start over" with a new doctor every few months.

We have been going to Mid-Florida Eye for a few years now. Hubby does not have glaucoma but is being monitored and tested for it every year due an irregularity our optometrist found in the shape of his eye. He sees Dr. Panzo there and so do I, now. We like him. We are happy to see that he is on the Preferred Care Partners list of providers. (Look under Marion County) This is our first full year on this insurance and we have been very happy with it. It DOES look like we are going to have to travel to Ocala for a good dentist, but that is OK.

My wife & I have been going to Mid Florida Eye for about 10 years. We see Dr Panzo who is a glaucoma specialist and he found that my wife has both low & high pressure glaucoma. she has been under treatment for it for the past 5 yrs and in addition has had detached retina before moving here so has seen Dr. Maizel. We are very impressed with the whole operation. They keep a very close watch on any problems that you may have.

I would not recommend Lange Eye Care. They billed my insuracne carrier for contact lenses that I never ordered or ever received. I only found out about this when I purchased contact lenses from 1-800 contacts and went to submit my paid receipt to my insurance for reimbursement. The insurance told me I did not qualify for reimbursement as they had already paid Lange Eye Care for them. When I called Lange they told me it was their standard operating procedure to bill for contacts. But they never caled me to tell me they did this or that I had contacts ready for pick up. I found this out 6 months later when I purchased them elsewhere. This also happened to a friend under similar circumstance when she went to them. They billed her insuracne for eye glasses she never received. I hate to think of the number of seniors they have done this to withouth their knowledge. Think twice before using them for your eye car.

Ocala Eye isn't in the network for PCP and that was the reason for the question of Lange or Mid-Florida!
I've decided on Mid-Florida mainly due to the comments here and I want to thank the folks for their comments!!!!! :mademyday:

I use Mid Fl Eye and have since I moved here six years ago. I have worn glasses since I was four and am somewhat nervous and therefore picky. I currently see Dr. Jack Schorr. He has residents doing their rotations with him and I can attest that I NEVER gotten a better exam from an individual that that resident did on me. Dr. Schorr had an abundance of test results and data to examin me and he spent a good deal of time with me as well. I highly recommend him and the entire group. I do not see the opthamologists(yet)because I don't have serious problems. I do know someone who works there and they say that all the docs are absolutely top notch.
They may not be golfcar accessible, but they are right by Stonecrest, so they aren't far away.
I haven't downloaded the spell checker so forgive me ant spelling mistakes!

I do not like Lange Eye for a number of reasons too much to go into here. I am, however, looking for a reputable optometrist. I have had cataract surgery and need to have an eye exam and possibly eye glasses or contacts. Who is out there that is good?

Hubby and I have been to both. We have been on PCP for several years now. Definitely, with no question , we prefer Mid Florida Eye. He had cataract surgery with Panzo and was very pleased. He has also been seeing Maizel for retina problems and are pleased with him as well. The staff is friendly and the office is run very efficiently. All staff members are very expert and knowledgeable.
We were not happy at all with Lange and were also billed outrageously.

We all better get used to it. The era of the family doctor that sets up practice in your home town and is your doctor for life is over. Today very few doctors are in individual private practice. They all belong to one of these medical groups and the change when their contracts are up or they get a better offer. It's not unlike free agency in professional sports.
Forget about the idea of choosing a doctor based anything anymore. You can check around to see if they committed any crimes or has any negative history, but after that, it doesn't make much difference. It seems that all the office staff are the same. It always takes weeks to get an appointment and there is no personal relationship. They may disappear after a period of time and you can go somewhere else at any time. They seem to treat you like you are there for this one appointment and don't care beyond that.
It's really the way much of the world and especially big business is these days. make the sale today and the hell with tomorrow. If they come back fine. If not, there's another one behind them ready to take their place.

I will go for additional treatment when needed.

I have Dr Geddes at Walmart on 441 for contacts and glasses. I love him and he is great-no wait. He takes PCP ins. He has a new procedure to check your eyes that does not require dilation. Yeay!
He was recommended by Mid Fla Eye for my hubby after cataract surgery to get his glasses since their optometrist does not take PCP at Mid Fla.
I like Dr. Panzo. He repeated measurements several times before my cataract surgery. Highly recommend Mid Florida Eye. I prefer them to Ocala Eye where I was going before.

I currently go to Lange Eye Care. I am interested in getting some opinions regarding the cost of an eye exam as well as contact lens fitting cost. I do not have insurance and it just cost me $170.00 for a regular exam & contact fitting. Tks in advance

I paid $20 for a follow-up check-up at Walmart when I had an eye infection after just getting new contacts. He said the insurance did not cover that visit. I do have insurance so cannot tell you any other fees. Check with them (at 441)(not 466). I really liked Dr Geddes. Never thought I would go to Walmart to the eye dr but I was amazed at the efficiency and expertise. I will go back there.

Well, I can only say, I have been going to Mid Florida Eye for 10 years now, since I first came to Florida. I wouldn't consider going anywhere else. I have been seeing Dr. Panzo who has taken care of my glaucoma all this time and I see better now than I ever have. I would recommend him as an excellent eye doctor and surgeon. He recently performed another surgery on my glaucoma and I have recovering just fine. My vision is better than it was before, again.

Hopefully it's not too late and someone will find this post useful. I just experienced care on Tuesday at both Lang and Mid-Florida. I found Lang useless and condescending, the "tear duct" specialist, Dr Hunt greeted me with a "Did anyone tell you I'm not performing any procedure on you today?" I was assessed & treated for this problem by his partner, Dr Ramsey end of Sept, scheduled for this appt 1 month ago, called the office 3 times to get info on what to expect, like can I go back to work the day of the procedure and should I prophylax as I have artificial joints, told I can return to work but to plan to be there 3-4 hours for the procedure. Dr Hunt sent me off with a script for antibiotics and a script for a culture because their practice isn't even capable of doing that. I called my pcp, explained what was going on, they arranged for me to be seen by Dr Goldkey at Mid-Florida that day. They were efficient, she was very thorough, saw the situation needed to be addressed immediately and took care of it, did the culture (that one was beyond me!), did appropriate prescribing and set up a follow up for me 1 week out, working with both her schedule and mine, very professional. I was fortunate to have things go in my direction last week!
