When we were thinking of decorating our TV home, we thought of light colored furnitures, possibly a white rattan, etc. However, we were told that Floridians decorate in darker colored furnitures. We thought then it would be no different then our northern English style decorating. How did you or how would you like your interior decorating to click? Even if you have brought or will bring furnitures from your precious homes, have you or will you do something different because it's TV?

House number one in Hadley was decorated in white woods and medium brown woods and cottagy beachy colors of teal and pink and white. Loved it for three years and sold it furnished. It was casual and cozy.
Our frog home of three weeks (lily pad) has the furniture we brought with us with no attempt to beach it up at all. English Regency style and gold rococco stuff and you know what? It too feels like home with the eggplant and teal...
Too good to get rid of and we liked it still so it is here with us now.
I can't seem to enjoy a house without the color teal...My fav.

We bought a turnkey CYV decorated in white cottage style furnishings. I love the way it is decorated but I really love the darker caribbean/island style. If we ever build/buy another house I will furnish it with that style. JMHO.

We have natural oak furniture in TV ( from WoodYou in Ocala) and light colors painted on the walls.
We brought all our stuff with us from CA...sort of a combination of styles, but stuff I liked. Now after 5 years, many of the pieces have been replaced with newer pieces, but still in darker woods. My kitchen set in CA consisted of a large black gathering table (one of those tall things) and a buffet. I've put that in my dining room here and added two more small black cabinets. The table and buffet were brand new. New sofa and loveseat, new chair, new kitchen table, new furniture for the guest room and a new sleep sofa for the office have been purchased here in TV. Kept the office furniture we brought, it was new, but have gotten rid of one large desk and replaced it with a smaller one.
All of our stuff is in darker colors except for our office, off white furniture.
One might want to think long and hard about what they bring here. There are so many different styles of decorating, some more beachy, some more traditional. I think if we had to do it over again, I'd just buy new....since we've replaced almost everything.... ;) (Kept kitchen dishes, pans, etc.)

our house in maine has the lodge look about it; the jersey house has an eclectic collection of 40 yrs of favorite accumulations including oak, dark pine, walnut, etc; our villages house is all about florida! we snowbird there to get out of the frozen northeast wasteland and want nothing more than to enjoy everything bright and sunny - and so it is!
if i had to live there all year round - maybe i would tone things down a bit - but i would NEVER decorate with dark furniture/possessions. some say i've spent my life in the dark! ;)

I left all my dark furniture with the house we sold in NC. I was just tired of it after 30 years! Also, I can't stand to see dust and it shows the day after dusting! I used off white, cottage style furniture in the living area. We are in a cyv and I think the light colors brighten a bit. Having moved from a large home with a full attic to a cyv, every piece of furniture has drawers and shelves and it's still a challenge as to where to put everything.
I'm not a beach person at all so did not use any shells, palms or other beachy stuff. On the other hand, I do like the new brown/black furniture so used that in the master bedroom. I'm going for comfort and ease at this stage of my life and my house does not look anything like a page out of House Beautiful! Just comfy and tidy.
We're just glad to be here!

Our decor is primarily Southwest, including much of the landscaping. We brought most everything with us, including the furnishings for the one I call the "jungle room" which is wicker and tropical.
Love it all!

We are buying mostly new furniture, but not necessary in a new theme.
My home now is rustic nautical in the living room, Tuscany in the dining area and kitchen. The jungle room I just wrote about. I love it and even with the new furniture, the accessories that I layer with will bring that back into my home in TV. I LOVE the Wicker look but I don't use it in a beachy way! I love Brown and cream! I use it a lot. Can't wait to see it in my new home!
*sigh* We bought new furniture for our bedroom and upsized from a queen bed to a king! Now I need to decide what colors/theme I want in there. Well... back to google images!

Guess no one is into thatched roof, waterfall and palm tree cushions in the lanai. Probably it won't cut mustard with the aesthetics' committee. Wonder if there is an eccentrically decorated homes in TV. Would certainly like to visit if there is such a home. Anyone out there willing to post.:BigApplause:

I used dark furniture with dark reds for couch and rugs. The Ashley rep was so inpressed with the decor he took pictures to use for his portfolio

we got rid of a few things when we moved from Orlando, but we will still have our painted walls. We went to Italy a few years ago, and then bought the Disney Food and Wine Festival print from that year.....and we used all the colors from the print......ochre, dark red, bright yellow, olive green. The colors made us so happy.....and we have a lot of pretend antique and real antique furniture.......so we work around that too.

The only furniture I plan on bringing is my dining room set...dark wood but it has a contemporary asian look and my kitchen set..same. I also have a dark bookcase that is the same theme..we both like Japanese decor...sleek, minimal and I'm sure it will look good in Florida since it's not heavy. Heck, I'd live on air mattresses and milk crates if it would get me there sooner!! Not one looker at my house yet...darn. The market here in Michigan is rough! Since I am the listing agent, I get any and all sign calls...not one!! There are two other homes on my street for sale, mine is the lowest price. It typically takes a year to sell homes in this city, the less expensive ones and foreclosures are selling but everything else is at a standstill. keep your fingers crossed!!!

I feel your pain. We reduced again two weeks ago. No interest at all.
