View Full Version : VP Biden's speach & weapons permit

I listened to VP Biden tell us what will happen if they don't pass the President's Bill. If they don't pass it, I think the VP makes a VERY good case for a National Concealed Weapons Carry Permit. Anytime, any state, anywhere. (If of course you have the training and background check). I think I have the right to protect myself and my family from the rapes and murders VP Biden is warning us about.
Remember, when seconds count, the police are just minutes away.
Flame suite on.

I think your spot on. But of course, gaffe a minute Biden, is considered one of the most inept VP's in history.

what is a "flame suite"? I have been to many hotels but never been told of a "flame suite". The VP had a "speach"?
Anyhow, what kind of statistics on rape and murder do you find at The Villages? One murder about 5 years ago and that was because a live-in daughter had been mixed up in a drug deal gone bad.
If you want to carry a concealed weapon in The Villages and you have a permit - and do not go into a bar - that is your right. Downright ridiculous, of course, but it is the extremists doing it so it kind of fits the profile.

Not exactly sure what your last sentence means but my interpretation that those of us who do have a concealed weapons permit and those of us who elect to carry are extremists is distorted, incorrect, prejudiced, biased and actually abusive....if that was the intent.
From my post in a previous thread:
using the arguments or positions taken regarding why a concealed weapons permit is not needed in TV....then why do you have home owners insurance? Health care insurance? Any insurance of any kind?
Just in case right? Something you gladly pay for and provide at considerable cost year after year HOPING it will never be needed. Personal protection...eh?
Those of us permitted and trained to carry and use a concealed weapon do so with the same intents as ANY other insurance. And like all the other insurances, it does not matter where one lives...TV or any where else. Same logic. Same principal. Same intents!!!
If you don't like guns so be it. No need to be abusive (if that was the intent) to those of us who could come to your s or your loved ones rescue...just like an EMT!!!!

Second amendment right is extreme? Interesting. You use the word ridiculous most excessively.

My quote was, "If you want to carry a concealed weapon in The Villages and you have a permit - and do not go into a bar - that is your right."
I see no use for it in The Villages but I am not advocating your "right to bear arms" is taken away. Just follow the law.
As for BTK's quote of, "Those of us permitted and trained to carry and use a concealed weapon do so with the same intents as ANY other insurance. And like all the other insurances, it does not matter where one lives...TV or any where else. Same logic. Same principal. Same intents!!!"
The only violent crime I know of in the 2 years I have lived here was a domestic shooting involving husband and wife who were BOTH retired police officers. They were trained to use weapons - and a domestic shooting happened.

I put my Flame Suite on when I know I'm going to take heat for my remarks.

Another way I look at it.. Expecting the police to prevent all crimes is like expecting a tow truck to prevent all accidents.

You need to let go of something that happened 5 years ago and the other shooting by a retired police women of her retired police husband. Times have changed and its not the same world as it was 5 years ago. Then if things don't get better real soon and people keep losing homes, jobs and end up not being able to care for their families things will get lots worse than they are right now.
Read the law enforcement blotter in the Daily Sun, it get bigger each time in all the towns surrounding TV. Its not a question of if it will come to TV, its just a question of when. Will you be ready?

BTK,
In the time period you have lived in The Villages, have you ever seen a situation occur in The Villages when you felt it was necessary to have a gun on your person? If so, when and what was it?
I totally understand your "insurance" analogy. I can think of times when I have needed health insurance in The Villages, when I came close to needing car insurance, and the couple of times when I thought a windstorm might take off part of the roof. I cannot think of any time, though, when I thought a gun would be necessary at any moment.
However, as is your right, I would not advocate you not carrying your piece when you are doing it legally.

the philosophy of insurance is based on the potential an incident could occur...not having experienced the need for it. Although that would certainly confirm a need.
One just does not go around trying to determine where they will be at any given point in time to warrant whether to carry here or there or not.
I guess we need no more justification than the boy scouts....to be prepared!!

Weather you have one like them or hate them never ever let them take your gun away from you. Submitting to that and all of your other rights will be gone in a heart beat.

DDoug,
No one was saying to take away your weapons.
Does anyone have a problem with requalification on a regular basis - and to include shooting under stressful situations - as a condition for keeping your concealed weapon permit up to date?
I have long advocated regular driving tests as a condition for keeping driving licenses up to date. Downright ridiculous to have such long time periods on a driving license like 8 years in Florida and then you only have to take an eye test - but that is not the point of this thread.

I'll bet those 8 people killed in a beauty salon in Calf. never thought it would happen there.

buggyone, I agree totally on the re-qualification and I to am an advocate of much shorter terms for drivers licensing...I remember my mother telling me her "good news" from Louisville, KY....she got her license renewed for 8 years without even having to do little more than write the check....she was 85!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone who has a CCW and would like a little training of shooting under stress, contact me and I can help you out. There is an organization IDPA (International Defensive Pistol Assoc. http://www.idpa.com) that has shoots here in the area that puts you under stress as a game. But it is good training for moving and shooting and the stress is from shooting on the clock.
Everyone should be required to requalify at least once a year, but that will never happen.
Why you ask? When I put my name on the line of requalifying you with stress training if you should shot someone it makes me liabel as the trainer for your action. Ain't never gonna get my signature on that piece of paper, unless the law is changed so that I occur no liability for your actions. For when I was training police officers the state had the liability for their actions, as I instructed from a state POST (police officers standard training) manuel. Not something that I wrote or required.
So as I have said before, CCW holders are NOT defacto police officers. Unless your life or someone else's life is in eminent danger, they are being stabbed, strangled, beaten with something that will cause bodily harm or maim, use the best weapon that the vast majority of us carry, your cell phone, call 911, then have someone else start taking pictures of what is happening. Yell at the prepatrator let them know that the police are on their way and that you are taking pictures.
This picture sums up a lot of questions for lots of people.

VG, have to differ with you on the jobs numbers, all the secret service had jobs, the 11.500 soldiers have jobs and the 4,000 police officers had jobs at the time. But you might be right, as of now, there could only be 14 left out of all those numbers. LOL

Unemployment is at depression levels. 26 million people are unemployed.
The only sector that has gained employment is public sector.
