Back when I was in school, I played the trumpet. I started in 5th grade and played until I graduated -that was 36 years ago. I've always missed playing. A couple of months ago, I decided that it would be fun to play again, so I bought a new trumpet and I've been practicing for about six weeks.
I thought I would share this youtube video I made today. My favorite trumpet players in the 70s, were Herb Alpert, Al Hirt and Louis Armstrong. Great musicians!

Hey Chief,

I've lost my lip for a brass instrument twice and a reed instrument once. Tried them both before moving down to TV and came to the acceptance that it was time to let those insturments go... and did! I might get a new kind of keyboard eventually that has bass buttons like an accordian which I also used to play in my youth, but don't ever expect to see me appearing at the squares! :a20:
And to Chief... very good. I'm impressed on how quickly you got yer chops back! How about a little Herb Alpert now!

That's why I LOVE The Villages! We do things we haven't done since we were kids...for me it's dancing and twirling a baton in parades!

Why don't you try out for one of the various Villages bands?

Why not join the New Horizons concert band. There are no auditions. We will be rehearsing on Nov 17th and Dec 1st at the Mulberry rec center. Come and check us out. We would love to have you. I started out playing clarinet in the band - hadn't played since 4th grade. I'm now playing alto sax.

Here's another song I just put on youtube this morning. I've always liked "Alone Again, Naturally" by Gilbert O'Sullivan, because I could relate to the lyrics - I think the song was about my life, haha. Seems like I would get into a relationship, and at the drop of a hat, it was over. Anyway, here's a little more of me and my trumpet..

I like this video, too. I'm going to have to get in on the act and post a video of me playing the drums. Nice job with the trumpet.
