just came by the saddlebrook tunnel on 466 and many ems vehicles parked along 466. Saw a person being taken into ambulance by stretcher. Community watch person said "it's a head on golf cart collision, it's not pretty" hope everyone is alright.

What time was this? I saw three helicopters come into the LZ by hospice on 466 late this afternoon.

I'd wager it's a inexperienced Villager who went the wrong way down the one way approach. People get confused there.

So sad to read this. I was just through there today while on my "get aquainted with my golf cart" ride. I hope people weren 't too seriously hurt, but head on doesn't sound good. I think it will still be a while before I head out at night. Too easy to get confused in the dark if not sure where you are going.

Tunnel under BV @ Saddlebrook has one way entrance. Tunnel under 466 @ Saddlebrook doesn't. I think you are thinking of the wrong tunnel. OP stated EMS was parked on 466.

What is the legal golf cart speed. My new cart seemed really slow and TV golf guys told me it was set for the speed TV allows? It can't be more than 10 to 13 mph? Thanks and appreciate if someone could tell me.

We came upon the accident last evening around 6:30. We were coming from the north and it appeared to be on the Saddlebrook side of the tunnel from Laurel Manor under 466. We did not stick around to nose around or get in the way, there was plenty of EMS personel and quite a few golf carts shining lights on the scene. It didn't look good, keeping all involved in our prayers seemed to be our best option.

We live very close to 466 and we heard many, many, many, sirens last evening and knew it wouldn't be good news.
Please be extra cautious everyone. All of the time. Some of us are thinking about other things or are new to golf carts and certainly it is very hard to find your way around the golf cart trails at first. There isn't a one of us who hasn't made a few mistakes driving around here.

Gracie, the choppers had to be for something else. It had to be around 4;30 when they started and this accident must have been after dark.

We were out for a cart ride around 4:30 to 6:00....there were helicopters going over probably around 5 or so though didn't look at the clock. There could have been more after dark too.
We saw some folks that appeared to be "confused" or not paying attention (this was south of 466A and then over in the Buttonwood area too--both in autos and carts. As stated---there are MANY new folks here now and we "all" really need to pay attention!!! Saw some folks driving where they had to pass signs that said "not to" due to the construction zones. This probably isn't the wisest thing--even on a weekend. Have heard of folks getting "caught" and fined for that!!

We were at LSL around 430 to 530 and there were several copters flying overhead or one making several passes.

unfortunately common sense, common courtesy and judgement are not used by too many golf cart drivers. They believe it is pedal to the metal no matter the circumstance.
I usually try to not magnify the impact of minority groups, but in this case there are far too many dangerous golf cart drivers to ignore it.
I am a daily cart path walker and I can tell you first hand about some hair raising incidents/near misses.
Maybe the brake pedal needs to be bigger?:jester:
A prescription windshield would help also.
But mostly using the brain would be most effective.

Last month here in California, a friend was walking the golf course and a member of her group was in a cart, texting, he ran her over. His reply, I'm sorry, I was checking on business.
Multi-tasking can be multi-trouble . These little golf carts are dangerous, please be careful.
My friend is okay, bruised, shaken and a retired policewoman, she was really teed off, the guy got a lashing.

on the contrary...most of these little carts are toys! only LSV carts have the necessary safety equipment to help keep you safe. the $50 monthly insurance costs are not that bad when considering how much safer thay are on the streets.

Sorry about your friend, Cha. I wish him a speedy and full recovery. I have a lot of respect for the carts and for the traffic around me. There's nothing safe about them and we're driving them like cars, getting a load of groceries or plywood or beer, usually all 3! There seems to be a lot more traffic, people are in a hurry and others are Newbies--dazed, confused and overwhelmed. We live in a beautiful place and need to learn to slow down and allow others the right of way.

I don't think a seat belt and real windshield makes you much safer, as it pertains to competing with cars on the roadways.
I believe we have very few "serious" cart accidents, considering there are over 30,000 golf carts in TV.
Just saying ...

I just think people treat them like toys. How many of you drive a car with your left foot on the dash? I see it all the time on carts - drivers with their left foot on the dash - tooling along at max speed.
And to me an LSV on the street will never win in an accident with a car - seatbelts or not.

you forgot the 4 wheel hydraulic brakes !
Also forgot to mention the maximize speed of around 25mph as they plod along on roads with speed limits of 35 mph where the cars are going at least 40mph and some going 45-50. So they become a slow moving traffic hazard.

How about the folks talking on their phones...or texting while driving their carts??!! Have seen this alot! Also the men who have their left leg hanging out while driving as well---we were told at the "Newcomer's" meeting for "Newbies" that is is an accident waiting to happen and NOT to do it!! Or the golf-cart drivers who try to beat the auto traffic at the gates---have seen this where the cart almost got T-boned!!! There are also those who don't stop at the end of tunnels--have seen that as well. We could go on and on here with all the variables of stupidity or just plain NOT thinking!!

Another thing to remember now that there is less daylight. If you have your clubs on your cart, the towels blowing in the wind as you travel along roads/paths will block the tail lights which means people behind you cannot see what your next move may be . That along with turning off signals are just two things that may prevent someome from being confused.
Safety first !

Chachacha, I'm so sorry your friend is still not recovering as expected. You mentioned him to me at dinner at Tierra del Sol when I was doing my LPV so I'm sorry things haven't improved at all. Take good care and I'll keep him in my prayers.

Curious, does anyone have any factual info on the original topic...golf cart accident. So far a lot of pages of nothing specific related to the accident. Just curious so as to avoid and look out for gottcha's or just be more aware of something near that particular tunnel.

Still no mention in today's Daily Sun.
I'm getting a sense, unproven, that the Sun has reduced the amount of coverage of local "bad news" ... accidents, incidents, etc. They used to be pretty good about reporting auto and golf cart accidents and minor crimes.

I am also getting that sense. It would be helpful to know what happened. We might learn from it. Most accidents are the result of a mistake (s) and we learn from mistakes.

It was a head on accident, sad to say...and experienced Villager was at fault, so many travel into those tunnels using both lanes, and don't think twice about on coming traffic, I heard from cop friend, was bad, the rate of travel into the tunnel was clearly at high speed...slow down people! After all you are retired...where are we going in such a hurry!

It would be helpful to know what happened? Really I do not need to know.Happens everyday, do not need the facts. I understand why the newspaper will cover these thinga, because it happens everyday.Thay would need a full-time writer just for these incidents. I am from Detroit,"no big thing"

I think that the Daily Sun should have a weekly summary of cart incidents just like they have the weekly police blotter.
It might give all Villagers a better understanding of the dangers of reckless cart driving.

Ill tell you one group that is taking notice of all these reckless golf cart accidents.......................The Insurance Companies.Look for fewer companies covering golf carts, and the ones that do, charging much higher premiums.SLOW DOWN and focus on your driving, golf carts are NOT toys.
