From www.districtgov.org :

"Status Update - CR101 Tunnel Closure 11/16/11
The support footers have been poured to receive the repair spans. Installation of the spans will begin Saturday, November 19, 2011. The re-work on the tunnel approaches is expected to happen the second week in December. As the work commences please continue to use caution at the temporary four-way stop located north of the closed tunnel, where golf carts are currently allowed to cross CR101. Please visit the District website, www.districtgov.org for updates on the progress of the CR101 Tunnel Project. "

At the Tuesday's POA meeting, someone asked whether CD3 was going to have to pay the cost of the CR101 tunnel repair. According to Janet Tutt, the entire cost of the tunnel replacement, including lowering the tunnel floor by one foot, and regrading the ramps will be paid by the tunnel manufacturer. CDD3 will not have to pay anything, and the mfr will also extend the current warranty on this new work.

Went to Gandolfos last evening so dropped over to see the progress on the 101 tunnel. It looks ready to go, new sleeve in, new concrete in the road bed (which had to be lowered due to the new sleeve. ) Looks like brand new concrete and they are giving it extra days to cure. A few cans of contractor stuff lying around but we think it should be open shortly (maybe pending inspection?)

anybody priviy to the opening day?

Saw the same stuff yesterday as well, hedoman. A couple of workers were there cleaning up - one was spraying water on the new concrete to help slow down the curing. I'd guess it'll be probably 7-10 days (at a minimum) from when they poured before they open it up.

Did they put in a Steel or another Concreate liner?

Must have been quite a operation to watch.

Looks like a ribbed steel liner. Everything look really nice. Looks like all that is left is some cosmetic curbing and landscaping.

That should make it very safe and secure. Are all the original ones cement?

As we all know cement can crack and open up for water intrusion.

The Steel Liner repair seems like a good fix?

Inspection ? ? ? That will probably take another month or so by multiple agencies ! !

Should have left it the way it was - the 4 way stop sign worked fine. Maybe a 4 way stop sign for Rolling Acres Road.

Where Rex Drive is --- Either a 4 way stop or a red and green light --- rolling acres rd is 35 mph - just like 472 (Lynnhaven and Mona Shores Dr) which is ok to cross. Also on where Gazaras and Co Rd 109 cross El Camino Real also 35 mph and there is a light there.

Y'all are assuming that just because you want a 4-way stop ot a light at these intersections, golf carts will be allowed to cross. Not necessarily... I believe that would have to be passed by the Lady Lake Township.

The Tunnel under CR101 is scheduled to re-open mid-morning on Friday, December 23, 2011.

Once the stop signs come down on CR101, be extra careful exiting the businesses and/or the big church, and when trying to cross at Woodridge on the way to Walmart, etc. by car or street legal cart. Some of the drivers don't seem to realize or care that the speed limit is not 45 like it is on 466. Some of the ones coming the other direction toward 466 are just as bad. Before the tunnel closure, there were lots of close calls, especially at that intersection.:cus:

I go by this intersection every day on the way back and forth from the Doggie Doo Run Run. Will be nice to not have to stop at this four-way stop. Some cars do go too fast on CR101 but there is also the problem I have seen frequently of more than one golf cart going through on the stop of the lead gof cart. I guess if they are in a group they feel that they have to stay near their fellows.

Yesterday the tunnel opened. They had a safety officer where the carts used to cross when the tunnel was closed.

Good idea.

Hope he/she stays in place for a while.

I'm so happy the tunnel is open! That 4-way stop always had me a bit skeptical in crossing...especially when I'd seen cars/trucks run the stop-sign!! Then there are the folks as someone above spoke of who (in their carts) would follow another cart ahead of them as if part of a train! Southern Trace parking lot can be like "bumper cars" if folks aren't observant...especially when crossing the "in and out" drive-ways into it!! You have to be watching out where you and the other guy is going at all times!!

Tal725 is a new ID for old Tal. Simply said, The old Tal is the new Tal. The old Tal/new Tal takes his dog Sport to DDRR every day, using CR 101. Now I have to go back to the funny farm. :evil6:

Thanks, barefoot. My computer caught a virus after I tried to collect on a gift for Farmville or Cityville on Facebook. Now I have to be really careful on what I click on or risk crashing my PC again.

Suffice is to say, I had to change my e-mail address and could no longer access Taltarzac on TOTV. My aol account went out with the virus.

Unfortunately, DDRR is closed for Christmas, so I will have to find another place to take him tomorrow.

Merry Christmas though!

The tunnel on CR101 has a roof which looked like it was some kind of corrugated metal-- tin?

I went through it last night on the way back from Publix. Took a detour to check it out from that store.
