This is the way I see it, I agree that abuse of system whether it is a welfare recipient or congressman deserves comment, what I don't agree with is the personal attacks to other posters, that solve nothing....I doubt seriously that if you encountered this poster in the square it would become sooooo hostile....Most posters at our advanced age have already established our political persuasion and all the words in the world will not change our view of the world BUT some of us find "words of wisdom" that WILL broaden our horizons thru dialogue....How about a New Year's resolution, a reminder of the golden rule!

And it's gotten worse recently, with several new forum participants who are either just fundamentally nasty people or have their shorts tied in a very tight knot.

ha ha.... There are several folks sitting around wondering if you're referring to them. Ironically, on a thread that should be mostly agreeable [by everyone], there is little posting....

Where is everybody this morning ????

They know who they are but very few if any will come forward and admit it.

A big HEAR HEAR! This needs to stay at the top of the board.

Maybe everybody is tired of the self righteous who are posting veiled insults themselves. Think about it.

You are absolutely right about most posters not changing their point of view and nothing will change their minds. I never expect my posts to do either...but folks need to remember that TV is not a conservative or republican utopia...people of all persuasions live here. If you can not get along with others who do not support your point of view you definitely missed a very crucial life lesson somewhere along the way.

I agree with the OP primarily because important information gets lost in all the shouting. I am not one who believes you can't teach an old dog new tricks. I am open but it is contingent on a person's ability to persuade me to his/her point of view. Its easier for some to conclude that the other person has a closed mind rather than their lack of facts and or knowledge of their topic.

The ugliness is not only distasteful, but more importantly, it is couterproductive. If you really would like other people to consider your point of view, or take you seriously, it is better that you not call them names or belittle their viewpoint. I for one, dismiss anyone who cannot attempt to make their point without being nasty or personal, and I sometimes respond in kind, which disappoints me. I am not in the camp of either party's extremes, and have voted as an independent for years. I can be influenced by intelligent persuasion (not propoganda), but quickly turn off the ranters, for whatever it's worth.

What's that old saying?>...oh yeah...something about the pot calling the kettle....

TYPICAL !!!

I said this recently and I will repeat it...WE GET THE LEADERSHIP WE DESERVE...OUR LEADERS REFLECT THE ELECTORATE...US !!

I have been on this forum, I think since the day it started. This forum was always a bit spicy and that is fine. There were a few in 2008 during the primary and general who would become personal, BUT, normally about the candidates and not the other posters.

It was, in general, a great place to LEARN...sure voice your opinion, but read and learn from the others.

For whatever reason, this forum in more about "getting" other posters, either directly or making them look and/or feel stupid. Lots of snide remarks...notice that very few refer to another poster or even a candidate without a few adjectives or cute names

Exactly what I was referring to is happening here. The posters who are wailing about civility are casting aspersions on others. It's hypocritical, to say the least.

You juveniles, and yes I look down on you, who post this tripe and I think are called "trolls" on the net actually can vote and then with your mentality critique those elected by you.

Someday there will a book that will try to explain what motivates this kind of behavior...or maybe with no life, it is fun !!!

Wow, I had a late supper so I guess I missed some action. Yes, I do get a kick out of the self righteous here who call people cowards. Why do they say that? I never understood.

When folks consistently over many months and many different posts from many different people respond exactly the same way regardless of the content of the message, I think you can pretty much conclude that it is due to a closed mind.

I like to think I'm not 'wailing' about it but wishing for it.

I can't agree more that name-calling does NOTHING but result in either more of the same coming back at you (As ye reap, so shall ye sow) or having the other side dig their heels in even further.

Well, sometimes you get progress.

Nobody is doing the "well why do all the foreigners come here for medical treatment" argument against socialized medicine since I posted the actual statistics showing that over 10 times as many Americans go to other countries for services than foreigners coming here.

I try not to say "I'm right because your perception is wrong". I try to say "the facts don't back up your perception - perhaps there's something else that might, otherwise, consider the alternative"

Sometimes the facts DO speak to people.

It's been my experience that people do NOT like to admit when they are wrong. Quite frankly, it's programmed into our biology. But even more than that, people HATE admitting that they were duped - which is why, I think, the term "drank the Kool-Aid" carries such emotional weight currently in addition to it's historical weight..

The Administrators had to clean up posts on this thread.....Do we have to always take our corners and come out swinging?....We really need to ask ourselves if ANY GOOD can possibly come from hateful replies to one another!!!

Just disagreeing with someone, or revealing the ignorance or duplicity of their post is sometimes seen and categorized as "hate".

Evidence the recent interview of Chris Matthews by Larry Elders, when Elders played audio of Matthews back to him to prove the duplicity of his interview answer. Chris Matthews accuses Mr. Elders of "hatred".

This happens here on this forum also. A lot of what was previously redacted were of that nature. I don't blame the moderator, but what's true is true.
