I heard Rush say this at least twice: To get the economy moving (big time), cut ALL federal taxes for one year. Well, that would be a dream come true for a lot of us but who would pay the bills in the mean time? China? If so, wouldn't that increase the national debt by about 3.5 trillion? :loco:
What do you think about Rush's plan?

Is it possible that he said "capital gains" tax?
Anyone hear Rush recently? He is asking interesting question...Why can libs ask all of these questions and judge conservatives and yet no one can ask similar questions about the current POS?...Oooops, I mean POTUS.
No one knows anything about the personal life of Obama, no one remembers him from Harvard, no one knows about his pre-Michelle love life, etc,etc,etc....

Give us links to your answers on the Obama questions, Katz. Allegations or vague questions mean nothing - as you claim to be a scientist - should know.

Tell you what my friend Buggy; as soon as you or anyone link the aforementioned alleged quote by Limbaugh, I'll look for what you want.

Release your hate. You'll feel better. Hope you never have chronic debilitating pain like Rush Limbaugh did. Many people wish for family stability and are thwarted. It seems common in the world of high profile news and entertainment industry types. It would be nice if you were more compassionate towards people, even those you hate, but you don't know.

I find very little of what he says informative...he is about as entertaining as a train wreck. There is no subject he can not twist into his own brand of sarcasm and meaness. Like I said....he is a hypocrit of the worse kind. But if some find him entertaining....so be it. To each their own....

Having had family members addicted to prescription painkillers, I have some compassion for him.
He, or at least his public persona, however, had none.
It is his hypocrisy that I have no respect for.
If he'd come out and acknowledged just how hard it can be and recanted at least some of the statements he'd made, he'd be a bigger man in my eyes (and I used to listen to him during my commute every day back in the 1990s).
*To my knowledge*, he's never done that.
I haven't listened to him in a long time, largely because it seemed to me that he was getting increasingly nasty and the humor seemed to take a darker turn over a LONG period of time.
Now he just seems a caricature of his former self. But, to his defense, he DOES have several hours a day of time to fill and he's been doing it for a very long time.

Most people have no comprehension of difficult situations which they have no personal experience in. It's easy to be steadfast and righteous when you have no clue to the enormity of the problem. Many people criticize another's actions in a situation that they themselves have never found themselves in.
That's Rush's story on prescription painkillers. You never hear him voice anything but sympathy and encouragement about this subject on the extremely rare occasion he might even address it now. Not that it matters to the "Rush haters" who won't let it go because it's a justification for the unreasonable hate in their heart.
I would link it if I had access to transcripts of his show, but I don't and have no way to search.

Sounds very much like a description of the "occupiers" of the WH and congress to me!!

I have been in pain 24/7 for the past 6-7 years and am not now nor have I ever abused pain medication. I am not a big strong blowhard conservative and somehow I manage to not abuse meds. I see a pain doctor every few months for assistance in dealing with this almost debilitating pain. I can certainly relate to the pain but not to the abuse. Sometimes you just have to suck it up, put on your big boy pants and deal the hand you have been dealt....I am grateful that I can do as much as I can do, even if it hurts like hell. I know the alternative and that this is the better choice. At some point you have to make the decision to just get on with life.
And again...I also can not stand the hypocracy. He ragged constantly on the drug addicted and abusers while he was doing the same thing. Just like Newt ragged on Clinton while HE was doing the same thing.

sorry to learn that you must endure chronic pain, lady doc...i cannot imagine what that is like...but in fairness, i think the drug addicts whom rush would criticize are the ones who totally become useless, or terrible parents, or steal to feed their habit...not that this makes medication abuse excusable, but as in everything in life, there are differing degrees of dependence and situations. even the most terrible addicts i suppose have their story...only God should judge...but society must discern.

Thank you for your concern...sincerely.
There is some merit in what you say, but this reminds me of an old joke:
A doctor defines an alcoholic as someone who drinks more then they do.
I compare this joke to maybe Rush thinking OTHER people with addictions are "lower class" then he ie: become useless (I bite my tongue here), are terrible parents, etc.
There is always an excuse for behavior, there is frequently an explaination and sometimes a reason. But behavior is behavior...I think that is what you meant by society discerning.

I think you've misquoted him. In fact, I'm sure of it.
Well, I heard what I heard. He said all federal taxes. That means, for example, no one would have to pay any income tax and there would be no corporate taxes for one year. What I thought was strange is that he didn't invite anyone to call in to comment on it and no one did. Could be that no one took it seriously but he was dead serious when he said it. I've been listening to him for about 18 years, so I think I know when he's serious.
Perhaps if we just wait a while, some other Rush listener will come along and verify what I have said. Otherwise, I have no way to prove it. I did a quick search and came up with nothing.

Rush lost me as a listener long ago when he actually tried to defend his pronounciation of the word " schedule" in the manner our friends across the pond pronounce it (sed ule v sched ule). While listening to him debate this fact with a caller it struck me that this guy like many successful people reinvented himself. Beside which no matter what the issue he cannot be wrong. The same applies to the likes of Bill Maher and other political pundits. they are just so full of themselves that even when they hold a cogent debate I turn away. In the fact the only talk show host I really enjoyed was a guy called Joe Souceray (sp) in Minneapolis. he had a show called Garage Logic which was informative and fun because he didn't take himself seriously
Perhaps that is what we are missing in todya's poltical climate everybody is just so serious.....How many people do you know that still whistle? Yes I said whistle. My Dad whistled a lot so did Bing Crosby. Try whistling over the Holidays.....Every little breeze seems to whisper Louise...birds in the trees.....

Really, word pronunciation was the limit of your tolerance? Rush often mangles word pronunciation as a way of mocking someone who's considered smart. He does the same thing in embracing things his adversaries say about him and mocking his mockers in that way. For instance when he says he's the head of the Republican Party, he's making fun of being called that by a lame-brained liberal commentator who's name escapes me.
Still to each his own, but nobody is as politically intuitive as Limbaugh. You want to know what down the road he's the one to listen to. Just about never wrong.

Richielion in all due respect why would a big celeb like Rush defend himself for several minutes over a caller claim that he was being pretentious with pronouncement of a word. It speaks volumes of who this guy really is. People like him, Obama, etc just can't help but like to hear themselves speak.
Rush like Bill O'Reilly Hannity, and their liberal counterparts ask a question and then cut off the speaker and answer it. None of them appear to recognize when a period comes at the end of a sentence. If you invite a guest to your show or invite a called then have the courtsey to allow them to answer. It just so distracting so I stopped listening to these guys

It's Joe Soucheray, and yes he is brilliant. I like the Golf Channel show where Hank Haney tries to fix some golfer - watched him try to fix Charles Barkley and Ray Romano. His most recent pupil, at least the most recent I'm aware of, was limbaugh. I watched half of two episodes trying to get interested, but could not because of the incredible level of pomposity limbaugh brought to the table. I used to think his pompous act was just that, an act, but I have come to beleive it is his real personality. He has some interesting things to say, but his level of mean spiritedness put me off long ago.

I guess he was entertained by the conversation and I'm not sure who was being pompous in that discussion.
Rush hasn't been the biggest thing on radio for as many years as he has by not knowing how to run his show. Some people don't deserve more time, especially if they're not quickly answering a question or are just borrrrringggg.
You're well informed enough without Limbaugh, so it's not vital for you to listen to him. I read and read and read some more, and whenever I get a chance I do listen to Rush's show, and I always hear an angle to a story I hadn't considered. But again, to each his own. I am also a guy who finds Coulter hilarious, informative and brilliant, so there's that to consider :)

Richielion If Ann Culter were a man and if instead of words it was swords she was crossing she'd be Zorro. She is that fast and can cut that deep with a word....and I guess the reason some folks just can't appreciate her; especially folks who truly believe blonde jokes She certainly makes Bill Maher look slow intelligent wise. Wouldn't love to see those two debate. The boys in Vegas would have a field day.
By the way I do believe that Rush is a brilliant guy I just hate when someone monopolizes a conversation

Heh. I *like* Bill Maher and *I'll* admit he's gotten increasingly nasty over the past few years.
One difference between Maher and Limbaugh is that there have been some topics where Maher has questioned his own opinions - like giving Bush some credit for some events in the Middle East. As near as a quote as I can remember, I've heard him say "Is it possible that, in the big picture, Bush was right about some of this?". He'll go on to criticize aspects of us being in the Middle East but there's at least some debate in there.
Lately, his 'thing' has been the "GOP bubble" and how facts on certain topics don't seem to enter it. He's also on Obama's case for being very ineffective (at best). He seems to have a great deal of respect and admiration for the way the GOP can stay "on message" while the Democrats just wander around their talking points like lost kittens.

But, I still think Romney is our best hope for 2012.

This thread turned out to be pretty cool. I'm loving all the comments and the thought behind them.
I have to defer to DJ on his analysis of some of Maher's thoughts, as I haven't had the will to listen to him in a long time because my wife gets mad when I yell at the TV. I only read and listen to sound bites posted on the web, and we all know that's often out of context.

Richie, I have no problem believing you and understanding your criticism of Maher. I find myself wishing he'd tone it down *just* a tad - you don't always have to have it turned up to '11'.
His New Rules are still hysterical.
But, really, it's his panel discussions that are the stars of the show. He'll bring on conservatives AND liberals - and give the conservatives credit for coming into a lion's den audience of liberals. Being able to listen to them go back and forth on a given topic for more than just a sound bit is somewhat refreshing.
