When you got your smart phone did you give up Comcast high speed internet?

I have had an iPhone since early summer. It certainly allows more flexibility on the go than any other internet option (for me).

I am now considering dropping my high speed internet service with Comcast which runs $50 per month. I pay $30 per month with Verizon for an unlimited data package (like many others we are grandfathered, the unlimited is no longer available). I also know I can turn on the hotspot feature on my iPhone to run my lap top and desk top. That would be $50 in total with Verizon, so why not cancel Comcast high speed internet?

Has anybody else done anything similar?

The answer is "it depends" and i believe it is worth explorering. Yes, you may save money dropping Comcast, but the "it depends" comes in with regard to data speed you get at your home. When we moved in to our condo, Verizon FIOS was not going to be installed until the following week, so for first time I paid for the tethering feature ( about a buck a day) and I was very impressed by the network speed of about 6 mps. That was only because I was able to get a 4G signal. The next day I was at a location where I could only get a 3G signal and the difference in speed slowed to a point that was frustrating.

My point is to check the speed you'll have. I know tethering would not work for me in TV because i do not get a strong enough signal.

I myself was considering this when we move to TV. I am grandfathered with Verizon on the unlimited data. I only have a 3G phone now. My Verizon rep said the 4G was blazing fast?

On a trip last few days I was at a resort without internet, and BORED! So I turned the Droid into a hot spot. The phone service was marginal and it performed but it was dismal.

However I used 3G in TV and I though it worked quite well. Would have to try the 4G to see if giving up Internet service would be worth it.

Something has to go! The smart phone and back to a plain ole cell or keep the smart phone and cut back on bundled services.

It's a hard decision. Has anyone used the 4G from Verizon in TV and tried video or a large download on their computer?

WiFi drives my phone faster without eating up data minutes on 3g IF you can get a signal. Also need it for the laptops. We're keping ours

Billie, don't know if you are aware that there are different levels of high speed internet thru Comcast. When we originally got our 'hi-speed lite' a few years ago it was about $20 a month. Not sure if it has went up any since that time, but we run 2 computers (at least), our Magicjack phone, my iphone, etc. and it all works great! Fast enough for us for the $!!!

At least that's another option to consider.
