‘Indefinite Detention’ Bill Passes Senate 93-7

Americans completely stripped of all rights under Section 1031

The Senate last night codified into law the power of the U.S. military to indefinitely detain an American citizen with no charge, no trial and no oversight whatsoever with the passage of S. 1867, the National Defense Authorization Act.

One amendment that would have specifically blocked the measures from being used against U.S. citizens was voted down and the final bill was passed 93-7.

Another amendment introduced by Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Dianne Feinstein that attempted to bar the provision from being used on American soil, an effort to ensure “the military won’t be roaming our streets looking for suspected terrorists,” also failed, although Feinstein voted in favor of the bill anyway.

Everyone in the current government that voted for this and the SCOTUS needs tobe replaced is this law is not found Unconstitutional. If this don't scare you about this current crop of elected criminals then nothing will.

When I read this other article linked below, I kept marveling at how the Senate vote was 93-7 in favor of this foundation for martial law. How can so many Democrats and Republicans alike be in favor of this??

What I keep thinking is that they must know something we don't know, about an imminent threat(??)

See this article and especially the embedded youtube video by Sen. Rand Paul.

Then I'm going to wait to hear from democrats here, as to what "ignorant hillbillies"....clinging to their guns and Bibles.....the TEA Party members are!

I don't know how anyone could disagree with TEA-PARTY SUPPORTED Rand Paul here:

Again, it makes me wonder what they know that we don't, about what is coming our way imminently.

Where's all the mass media outrage on the news about this. I seem to remember much caterwauling directed at President Bush when raging against "The Patriot Act", mostly about public library records. Where's the similar outrage against this much more egregious law impacting personal freedom?

There can't possibly be a media double standard, can there?

And here's what it all comes down to:

...."Not everyone believes President Obama will issue his promised veto. Daphne Eviator of the Human Rights First’s Law and Security Program says issuing a veto may be difficult.

“Whether he [Obama] will [veto the bill] is a difficult question because, politically, it’s difficult to veto a defense spending bill that’s 680 pages long and includes authorization to spend on a whole range of military programs,” she writes....."

Wonder what's coming? Worried about who is going to invade us? I tend to think differently...maybe it is who's is already here and how do they contain US?

Sometimes you gotta go on principle. If he doesn't believe this should be law he vetoes it, period. Let the Houses deal with the defense allocation if it's they who are holding it hostage to the civil rights of it's citizens.

He could score some major popularity points here, I'm guessing. Think he needs them?

he has so many opportunities to show he can in fact make something we the people are in favor of happen.

There are so many issues he could take a stand on and the LEAD on and make something happen.

He is surrounded day in and day out with opportunities that would improve the economy, employment and our position around the world.

Any or all of which could influence people like me that he is well intended for we the people and the USA. But he continues with his agenda ONLY!!!

His appeal to grant him 4 more years to "finish the job" should scare the living hell out of most Americans!!..

it's amazing how some posters can go from the senate passing a bill to bashing the Pres in about 3 posts. Your hatred for Obama undermines all that you say. You have become a distaction nothing else.

It doesn't become law UNTIL the President signs it. It's natural to bring him into the equation. Also it's hate of his policies and agenda and just a strong dislike of the man, I would say.

You want to talk about hate? How about the way you and yours treated the former President? Is your memory failing?

Perhaps I misunderstand policy process but the bill has to be signed by the president, making it law, before it can be challenged by the Supreme Court.

There obviously is something going on behind the scenes that would prompt McCain and 92 other Senators to support this bill? I am sure these Senators have good intentions of protecting america but they are pushing a bill that in the future could be used aggressively by a despot.

I believe it will never see the light of day because even if Obama signs it the supreme court will strike it down as it violates "due process"

I don't think I want to bet my 401K on that.

Like the Supercommittee, this is another example of Good doing nothing, allowing Evil to succeed. Pass the buck along and depend on someone ELSE to Do The Right Thing (Supreme Court) when you could just as easily stood up for your principles and shouted down this despicable act of holding needed funding HOSTAGE to an Unconstitutional bill.
