By the Numbers

Villages are decorating their homes and entrances for the Christmas season, and The Villages is in the holiday spirit with decorated Squares, Recreation Centers and special events. (Oops…since the Answers to November’s By the Numbers were inadvertently omitted, they are included with this month’s Answers).

1. How many total Christmas Trees are in the recreation centers?

2. How many Christmas Stockings did Operation Shoebox ship to our men and women in the Armed Services this year?

3. How many guests will we expect from Thanksgiving - New Years?

4. How tall is the tallest Christmas tree in The Villages?

By the Numbers Answers

1. There are 94 total Christmas trees decorating The Villages recreation centers - 56 in Regional Recreation Centers and 38 in Village Recreation Centers.

2. As of December 1st Operation Shoebox sent 30,000 Christmas stockings to the troops filled with goodies, notions, toiletries, and personal thanks from home. Last year over 29,000 stockings were sent and the final total this year will approach 40,000!

3. From Thanksgiving through New Years approximately 60,000 are expected to visit The Villages and be issued guest ID cards. Since many of the visitors and guests do not obtain Guest Pass ID, the population of The Villages almost doubles over the holidays if everyone coming could be counted. From January through December 2011, over 200,000 guest ID cards will have been issued.

4. The Christmas trees at Spanish Springs and Lake Sumter Landing are the tallest at 37 Feet.

Here is November info.

Thanks for the info Bogie. I've passed along the info to some friends who think we here are living in a sea of blue haired people with walkers, hobbling along, in one square mile of community land.... ;)

WOW, Boogie Shooter, those are some awesome facts and figures you shared.
I am particularly interested in your comment "There are 34 completed tunnels in The Villages north or CR466A, and 8 more tunnels opening at CR466A and south.....
At the moment, anyone wishing to cross 466A from Buttonwood, Tamarind and surrounding neighborhoods off St. Charles, while in a golf cart, are required to use the cart path adjacent to Turtle Mound. Then use the tunnel under 466A while the only cart path currently open, is directed toward Colony Plaza. That's a LOT of cart traffic motoring in front of the lovely homes adjacent to Turtle Mound, and the traffic count will increase with each day as Tamarind builds out. I've posted inquiries in the past, attempting to learn if any other means of crossing 466A in a golf cart, will be provided, other than the existing Turtle Mound one.

Those are not my comments, from HOA newsletter.
There is a tunnel crossing 466A near Morse Blvd.

apologies Boogie Shooter, I did notice that the facts came from HOA. Noted.

I know about the crossing at Morse, but I am asking if anyone knows of an alternate cart route to cross 466A at Buena Vista? I could imagine a cart path running alongside Sandhill and Buena Vista (toward 466A), but how to cross 466A? Bridge? Tunnel? There is no existing way to access the new library and government offices by golf cart.

Eventually if you cross 466A at Buena Vista and then go west on the yet to be constructed cart path one could get to the library. It has been published the the Sumter County Service Center will be golf cart accessible.
It will be long time if ever that another tunnel would be construted under 466A

Maybe they'll build another golf cart bridge like the one over 441.
