For those that have been in the Villages for more than a year may know the name Dr Ben Spivey! I thought he lost his license to practice a year or so ago and should not be in a dental office! Well recently I as well as others I know have seen him in a dental office! And guess which one? The one he "used" to own! He was last working at the Colony Plaza office which is now called Colony Modern Dentistry and apparently sold it to a friend of his once his license was taken away. I saw him there just the other day with almost if not the whole staff around him! Now why would that be if he is not supposed to be practicing or if he really sold the office?
I can only assume one thing and that is he either really didn't sell it or he is still heavily involved! Either way he is bad news! His mother can even still be seen there occassionally from what others have told me! Again, why would she still be there if her son sold the office? You don't think that she would be giving him information?
I have tried other dental offices and have encountered old employees of mr spiveys and heard their horror stories of working for him! I have been told he is still involved but never wanted to say anything because I never witnessed it myself. Now that I have I need to warn everyone around me! I would stay away from Colony Modern Dentistry!
I remember before he opened that office he also owned another office in the Villages in the Spanish Springs Plaza. Since the same person "bought" that office as well I can only assume spivey is still involved with that office also! It is right next to the Publix and golf cart store in Spanish Springs so again be careful! I'm not sure what it is called now as the old office had spiveys name in the title so they had to change it for obvious reasons!
I think mr spivey has made a bad name for all of the other dentist in the area because now it is tough to decide who to trust! :cus:
My mother went to Spivey only once. She took an instant disliking to the patronizing treatment by the staff. He told her that one of her crowns would not last five years (she was 97 at the time) and she told him neither would she. Needless to say he was quite taken aback. I think, however, she is the one that may have been wrong!

This is funny stuff. :1rotfl:
Nice to hear your mom outlasted the needed crown. :)

Hopefully you meant the part where shes said that she wouldn't last that long!?!
I know that there are a lot of residents in the Villages that liked or still like Mr Spivey but he is a fraud and takes every opportunity to take advantage of people! I've been to Colony Modern Dentistry and the people there are nice but all I want to bring to attention is that if spivey is still involved than that is a horrible reflection on the current owner and staff as a whole! That also means that the staff lied when asked if spivey was still involved!
Also why is it that there's been so many dentist in and out there? I searched them on my insurance and there's a few names of doctors that don't even work for the company anymore! That should raise a question... Maybe they couldn't stand working for mr spivey either?:yuck:

I checked the Florida Board of Dentistry and they list his license as active but voluntarily withdrawn. That means he has voluntarily withdrawn from practice and is currently not allowed to practice. If you believe he is involved in the practice of Dentistry in any way that requires a license, than I urge you to notify the State Board of Dentistry at 850-488-0595.

I'll try that number as well but I've already reported it to the department of health and will know more next week when i meet with an investigator....
I'll keep this blog posted on the outcome of said meeting!

When you check the license of Ben Spivey, you find it lists three locations (none of which is Colony Plaza). He was on 22nd Place in Ocala, Silver Springs Boulevard in Ocala, and Bichara Boulevard in The Villages. He has no "official" disciplinary actions of file, according the the Department of Health, Division of Medical Quality Assurance (MQA), BUT he does have nine (count em - 9) complaints on file. If you go to their web site (DOH - MQA) you can read the details of at least three of the public complaints as they have been scanned into the DOH system. The others, if you are really interested, you must write to MQA for copies as they are not available online.

He's not the only so called dentist to beware of! Richard Rozensky at Mulburry Dental doesn't know what a cavity looks like on an xray. Nor does he know the difference between a molar and a wisdom tooth!

Add Carlos Johary to the Do Not Go to list.

Now why would that be if he is not supposed to be practicing or if he really sold the office?
Sometimes dentists make agreements when they sell their business. Years ago I went to an elderly dentist and he sold his dental business to retire. But he made an agreement with the purchaser to come in once a week for a certain length of time. The agreement could be 2 days per week or whatever is needed. It could be for consulting or whatever is needed to make a smooth transition.

You saw a man who no longer has a dental license at the office he used to own. Did you or did you not see him practicing dentistry?? If this is his former office and his former employees would it not be logical that perhaps he goes there for dental care himself, or he was bringing holiday gifts to his former staff, or he just stopped in to say hello? And you want to warn everyone to stay away based on that? I'm not seeing the kind of detail you really should be including in your post if you are at risk of destroying the reputation and success of the dental practice that is in that location now. As this is your first post, I also add, welcome to TOTV

Obviously he wasn't practicing dentistry as it took place in the front office but while a dentist's license is under review I don't believe they are supposed to be in a dental office at all (other than if they themselves need dental work) or at least that's what I recall reading in one of the newspaper ads that were written around him.
And if he is so bad why would the new owner want him in his practice? Obviously he did something to lose or potentially lose his own license so why would the new owner want any further association with him? it honestly looked more of like a meeting setting as there were no gifts or anything. Everyone was sitting around listening to him speak from what it looked like....
As for it not saying Colony office on his license, alot of dentist do not update their license when they have a new practice. From what I recall he had about 6 offices between Ocala and the Villages so obviously Colony wasn't the only one he left off of his license...
I read recently that Johary and Spivey had to go in front of the board of dentistry ( well again for spivey)! Minutes were not posted last time I checked to see what the outcome was but i will keep checking on it. I've heard alot of bad things about Johary as well but not any personal experience with him. I've heard many say he would leave them sitting in the dental chair all day and come in and perform a few minutes of work then leave again to go see another patient. If he respected or cared for his patients he would limit the amount of people he sees at one time. I can understand leaving for a short period of time or seeing 2 people at one time but not having all of his dental chairs full and rotating amongst them! I would think one could easily lose track of what was being performed on each patient and have major problems!

When I first moved here in 2000, I went to Dr. Johary. What a joke !!! The office was filthy & the girls that worked there were very rude & didn't know what they were doing. Needless to say, I only went the one time. I'm surprised he's still around.

Johary has an office in Oxford on 301...we go past it nearly every Saturday afternoon on our way to Summerfield (church) and there are cars in his office parking lot. This is even at 5 or 5:30!!! My question is..does he see patients on Saturday afternoons?? The offices he has really look run-down and not very professional as in keeping with a medical practice and this is on the outside. We haven't been patients of his so don't know anything else. Just my observance in passing by.

"A wisdom tooth, in humans, is any of the usual four third molars. Wisdom teeth usually appear between the ages of 17 and 25.[1] Most adults have four wisdom teeth, but it is possible to have fewer (oligodontia), or more, in which case they are called supernumerary teeth. Wisdom teeth commonly affect other teeth as they develop, becoming impacted or "coming in sideways." They are often extracted when this occurs. About 35% of the population do not develop wisdom teeth at all."

I heard or read that a modern human jaw is shorter from our human ancestors. So now the wisdom teeth no longer have the room in jaw.

My wife and I (both 73 with extensive dental histories) had our first appointments with Dr Maria Luong since moveing here in Sept 2011. Very professional and thorough. Office staff was well trained and friendly. Charges were very reasonable, they would have been significantly more had we gone to our dentist of thirty years in Maryland.
She provided referals to
Barton R Blumberg or Luis F Rosario for extraction of a partially impacted Wisdom tooth. Can anyone comment on either or both?

Before you go to any dentist, you can check him/her out online and find if there are any lawsuits or malpractice suits. It certainly puts my mind at ease. I do the same with doctors, and specialty practices as well.

Just so you know, a wisdom tooth is a molar...it is the 'third' molar.

What is the website where you can check out dentists online? Thanks in advance for the info.

I had two extractions by Dr. Rosario, I highly recommend him.

A good rule of thumb in finding a new dentist is to call a periodontist and ask who they refer to. A periodontist sees the work from many local practioners and will be able to point you in the right direction.
