this does not really have to be in political, but I thought it would be an interesting exercise to see how long it can actually remain a NON PARTISAN discussion.

Don't you think the US military using any equipment that has a risk of being acquired by the enemy, would employ some sort of self destruct mechanism or means of rendering the device USELESS? With all the technical capability there could at least be a targeting device that would allow smart bombs to seek it out...eh?

Do you think perhaps the captured drone is telegraphing info back to the US of what is going on around it? With it?

Do you think we are getting the whole story from either side? Obviously not!!

Personally, I think Iran would be stupid to just give back the downed drone because the US asks for it. We were spying on them, the drone went down, why give it back? We would not do it if another country's spy plane went down in the US.

I had heard that some signal was sent to the drone plane when it was not responding to commands that would erase or destroy all the technology aboard. The plane is still a problem with the secret skin on it, though.

I was disappointed that it didn't self destruct before captured but I heard that the operators lost all contact and whereabouts so blowing it up could have been a problem.

As soon as the drone went down we should have swooped in and destroyed it. You don't want it to be political so I can't say who should have authorized that protection of our vital security interests.

Richie, that would have been an invasion of Iran - not something the US wants to do. It would have started an entire new war and the US would be deemed the aggressor.

I think the drone over Iran was already that. We could have sent in one missle and :boom: Once you play with fire, you might get burned. If we're sending drones in, we're already invading. At least do the right thing, security wise.

Latest I read this morning was that what Iran was showing might be a fake. No idea if that's true but the story of Iran "gaining control" and "guiding it down" seems fishy. I can't imagine the kind of security and encryption used to communicate and control that drone. It seems FAR more likely that the Iranians jammed the signals and the drone did some version of falling out of the sky.

Perhaps we're looking at a 'repaired' version of wreckage. One analyst said it was curious that the landing gear were covered and that some welds or joints were the wrong color. (Working from memory here)

Lets' start another war. We're old so we won't be the ones dying. :cus:

Good point dale. If you are going to take over the class room you must first eliminate your problem child.
