Selling Spelling Manor

I am an addicted fan of HGTV and last night I caught part of the show Selling Spelling Manor. I like to see what people who have a lot of money own and what the inside of their houses look like. I don't follow the stars and the Hollywood names much, but think I remember that Aaron Spelling was a director? and his daughter Torie was on a sitcom? Obviously they amassed a huge fortune, because this home had 15 bedrooms, 27 bathrooms, a bowling alley, and housed some very expensive collections. Candy Spelling is the surviving widow and she put this huge home on the market for 150 million dollars and it took over 800 days but they sold it, but didn't say for how much. Probably like all of the rest of us, a lot less than the asking price.

I dont' know anything about Candy Spelling but it was interesting to watch that even those with lots and lots and lots of very expensive possessions go through the same processes and apparently the same feelings that we ordinary folks do.

She lableled things with sticky notes, keep, sell, donate and discard. She had designed this home herself and was moving into a not shabby at all two story condominium..so no need to worry that she was homeless.

She too had a lot of memories attached to her THINGS and seemed to have the same feelings I had of moving on and moving out and getting rid of things.

I didn't watch all of it because I fell asleep...but found it interesting that the transitions we are making here are made everywhere.

And even having endless supplies of money don't make them pain free.

Anyone see it? What did you think of that house and of the show?

Quite a few years ago, my wife and I were in LA and took the touristy tour of Beverly Hills. We passed by the Spelling Mansion and were told at the time that it was the largest home in Beverly HIlls. I don't know any of the details, but I'm sure the program you watched was very interesting.

Aaron Spelling made a ton of money in his lifetime and I didn't see the program
but heard of how extravagant and gigantic in size his home was.

FWIW - I don't think Candy Spelling will be strapped for cash. I'm sure that whatever she sold it for was more money than she would ever need. :) Nice to know that even with all the money invovled, she was feeling the same pain we all do when moving.

Very interesting for people to see the lives of the rich and famous. Wasn't that a show awhile back? :)

Aaron Spelling was a producer who had shows like Charlie's Angels and 90201, on which his daughter Tori appeared. I don't think she ever did a comedy show. He was once married to Carolyn Jones. I saw the house once while I was living in California. Can you say EXCESS?? But he earned it and can spend it anyway he wanted to. I did not see the show, but will look for it in reruns.

I watched the complete show. The house was beautiful and well designed/decorated. The attic was the size of a warehouse. I just kept thinking of all the money she spent buying all that stuff and she did not seem any happier than I am. I believe she would be happier if she used that money to help people in need rather than spending it on useless doll collections. But in the end, it is their money to do with as they want.

Caught bits and pieces. What a home! They earned it. His daughter, Tori, has her own reality show with her husband Dean.....Called Tori and Dean. They have 3 children. Mother and daughter really never got along....kinda sad. I think they said they were asking 150,000,000 for it? Ykes!

I believe I saw in the paper the house has been sold to a 22 year old (if I remember correctly) heiress from the UK for $85 million. It might have been $88 million but it was definitely in that range. I wonder if they'll do a show about the condo Candy Spelling is moving into? They said it is the size of the attic at Spelling Manor.

Gotta agree, a hoarder with money may be more organized but they are still hoarders. As I watched I kept thinking this was a great example of how money can't buy happiness
