Donald Trump has officially quit the Republican party and is going Independent.

Best news for the Democrats is that if Chump decides to run for president as the Independent candidate, he will siphon off large numbers of Republican non-thinkers - giving President Obama an even larger margin to win with in November.

If we are really, reaaaaaaaaaaaaaally lucky, the 1/2-governor of Alasky will be his running mate.

yes, i have to agree that a third party run will be a terrible blow to the Republican candidate, no matter who it is....but i also feel that if Obama wins another term, there will definitely be a strong Conservative third party before the next election cycle, since the Rebuplican party is not listening to its conservative majority...

Speaker Gingrich and Governor Perry couldn't even get enough signatures to get on the ballot in Virginia. Perhaps the republicans are just going to forfeit the presidential election.

I believe that we need as many competing voices in this campaign race as is possible. We are going to elect an individual who claims to have the leadership and know-how to get us out from under this yoke of an economy that is stifling our greatness.

Historians tell us that the reason Rome grew to its greatness happened because in primitive times when tribes were protecting their caves, etc from strnagers Romans welcomed strangers learned from them and incorporated their knowledge into their civilzation. We all are aware of the dangers of inbreeding. so I welcome any independents out there to run and we will let the chips fall where they may. the only thing of what I am certain is that Obama will never get my vote he just has not and never will be an effective president.

Yes, Rubicon, I welcome all Independents to run their candidates. It just siphons off more and more of the ones who say the Republicans are not conservative enough - and thus guarantees another win for President Obama.

why is it an assumption that only the republican party will be affected by a third party.

It most certainly is not a given that all democrats who voted for Obama the first time will do so if there is an option like a third party.

It is also most certainly not a given to assume that all democrats are satisfied with the direction and actions of their party.

And the party faithful will do what they have to do on both sides whether they are happy with the results or not.

Depends on who is the third party member. I think most that would run would hurt REP's more than Obama, so hopefully that will be discouraged. I do not get the MY CANDIDATE OR NO ONE. Is Obama so good that it would take a very special GOP runner to be voted for? Or would either Newt or Mitt be better than the status Quo? It it not hard to understand that a split REP vote would help Obama immensely.

How about we vote forour self preservation. It would appear that the best candidate is the one who can lead. what we know for certain is that that candiate is not Obama. What amazes me is that there are a number of people who are so mezmerised by the "ideal" of an Obama they are blinded to his obvious lack of presidential skills. He is a failed experiment.

rubicon, I am not sure whether it is Obama as their ideal as it is the party no matter what or who.

it is not the party...it is who can deliver on first being able to lead America and second keep their campaign promises.

I just cant believe that some one can be so supportive of someone that is a crook a liar and spends so much more than what the country has. Why they havent tried to clear up the mess we are in. Now that he thinks he may not make it the talk is changing VP thinking of bring Hilary in. He cant stand on his own.
The man has been so destructive to this country not saying the one before him wasnt but he hs done nothing to fix the problem. I fire people for being the problem. Merry Christmas
