My brother just gave me a reel of 8mm film (probably 50 years old) that had my name on it, that he recently found in stuff he took from moms house when we were cleaning it out a number of years ago. He does not have a 8mm projector and neither do I, and I would like to know what exactly is on this reel of film. I know you can go to certain companies who will restore or transfer these old films to DVD but at this point all I would like to do is to see what is on this film before I go the next step or even should I go the next step. Its a fairly large reel.
Does anyone have a projector I can borrow or other suggestions to see if I can bring back some memories???? If so send me a PM. For All I know the film could be wiped clean or just faded away!

I know this is not what you are looking for - BUT - there is the place in Belleview that might let you preview the film to see if it is worth transferring to a DVD.
It is on 27/441 right after the junction from 301 on the right hand side.

If you can't preview the film, here's another idea:
It's a gadget that's used for editing. You mount the film on one side and thread the film through to an empty reel on the other side. Then you turn it by hand slowly and can view the film on a small "lighted window" in the center. That's the way I remember it. And they used to be relatively inexpensive. With some practice, you might even be able to do your own editing if you decide it's needed.

You might check with local libraries, including school districts. They may have a projector.

I just want to let you all know that TOTV members are GREAT. I posted this request looking for someone that had an 8mm movie projector thinking that most if not all people threw them out years ago. I mean we ALL made a major move south to Florida and had to get rid of alot of prized possessions, who would keep a 8mm movie projector in ths day and age!!!
Believe it or not, after my post hit this board, I had someone (who is practically a neighbor) contact me almost immediately and offer to let me use their projector which I graciously accepted their offer. ...and then I had another!!
Just tonight we previewed movies pics that were more than 50 years old showing my mom and dad in their mid 40's....it was just a great feeling to look at these movies and see how things were in 1959-1960. These are pics that I have some recollection of but seeing it on a movie screen..even 8mm brings it all back to real life.
I will not mention the gracious people who offered the use of their equipment for I sent them personal notes or thank you's......but you just cant imagine the memories (and good memories they were) looking at something like this brings back.
Thanks to all who responded and helped me have a Merry Christmas!!

Your request made me smile...a couple of months ago we were going through a lot of 'stuff' deciding what to get rid of...Steve insisted on keeping his old movie projector while I thought it was silly...after all, who is going to need one of these?...Thank you for helping to put me in my place :). If we were there, it would definitely have been offered to you.
