View Full Version : Inside Home Colors etc
We're about to undertake a remodeling project in our designer home and need some OPINIONS on colors etc.
We are differing on the floor.
We have a 200 square foot kitchen/dinette (our starting point). There is 1 opening to the kitchen from living room and 1 opening to kitchen from Florida room. Not really an open concept room where you overlook the whole living space over a counter. Full wall with 2 distinct openings.
Gonna do cabinets, walls, counter & tile. Our question is on the tile.
Do you think the tile should carry THROUGHOUT the house? One of us thinks it should go virtually everywhere except the bedrooms/baths and one of us thinks the tile can be done in the kitchen and Florida room but the living room can be a different tile/laminate/rug.

We originaly had tile in kitchen and bath. Carpet in the main area and hallways started to look worn very early on. Ripped it out and did tile throughout the living room and hallways with an area rug in the living room over the tiles which we can rotate to cut down on the wear problem

We are going with tile throughout and area rugs in the living room and bedrooms. Easier to clean and like the previous poster said no wearing on carpets. Plus, when the area rugs get dirty you can just take them up and send them out for a cleaning! But, you have to choose what is right for you and your lifestyle. Good luck!

I also like the idea of unifying the space with the same tile throughout; a less chopped-up look can make the house seem larger, even though you have distinct rooms.

All the same. The same style cabinets throughout too.

We ripped out all the carpet and are installing brazilian wood floors throughout and keeping the small amounts of tile the builder put in the entry and kitchen.

Sounds beautiful! Why did you not want the wood in kitchen and entry as well? Just wondering your thoughts, we are not there yet.

One neutral tile throughout the home To give you an idea of what it would look like to split it:

Definitely, same tile throughout.
I have tile everywhere but the bedrooms. Looks nice to have uniform floors throughout. Having said that, if I had my way, I'd change the tile and carpeting for hardwood or laminate....so much easier to walk on....though wood and laminate floors do show dust bunnies...the rascally things.... ;) Well, maybe I'd keep the kitchen and laundry room in tile....somehow there's always water on those floors....think it's raining???

We did not take the tile out as it would have been chipped away at and even MORE expensive, it breaks it up just a bit and blends in nicely with the brazilian. We are also turning the lanai into a florida room and putting the flooring in there too. It has awesome shades in it of brown and tans

Pictures please.
We drove through that area the other day and I thought of you.;) Do you have Christmas decorations out front?
Isn't it fun getting things all fixed for your new adventure here?
Our children are here and this is the first time they have seen our home here and they liked it. Makes me so happy!

Our floors are not in yet, the work is just begining so no pictures and I am still in Seattle! Will certainly post when I have them. No Christmas decorations but a nice sign outside that says our name and the names of our dogs. Lights up at night!

We tore out carpet in living/dining areas. Put in wood floor that matched kitchen cabines and is nice contrast to our tile. Very easy to take care of.
