How long did it take for your belongings to be delivered to your home in TV after the moving company picked it up at your home "up north".... and how far was your move?

Did you know when it would be delivered when they picked it up?

It has been 1 week and we still do not have our furniture, the move was over 1400 miles. Hope it comes tomorrow. They said it would take about one week.

Took 8 weeks to be delivered to TV. Up North was Kiel, Germany; 4,500 miles. :laugh:

Two of my friends in Tamarind did this. They had local movers professional pack the Rental Van- Then when they arrived here had some local Village Movers help take off the Heavy items.

The cost is cheaper the plus is your furniture is with you at all times.

With a large copany mover you pay more they pack it for you and the minues are you wait and wait and you worry about damage!

We hired Atlas Moving through a local moving co. It took 4 days from pickup to delivery with a distance of 1200 miles. They told us that it could take longer and depended on other customers that they carried for in the trailer and sequence of delivery. We were surprised at how short a time it was. Items they packed for us didn't break but some of those we packed ourselves did. One things for sure though... the efficiency and timeliness of the service is dependent on just what crew winds up assigned to handle your load and how many different customers are assigned to a given trip.

To be honest, we aren't bringing a lot. We have been through all the options and at the end of the day decided to hire a mover through The Villages Relo.

We would have to have a trailer hitch put on our car, rent the trailer, drive during a possible bad time of the year (end of Feb) and try to move a scooter as well as a car. Factor in three dogs. Whew! We opted for the movers.

We have purchased most of our furniture from Showcase and have taken down a carload when we went down for our LS stay. We are loading our suitcases for bear when we come down for closing and will pack the car again when we make the final move.

I plan to have them pack the items that are important and if they get broken, they can replace and will/have pack the rest myself.

After we factored extra gas, trailer hitch (costs more for a Saturn Vue, long story) trailer, possible loss of items (because we don't know what we are doing) we opted for the pros.

Because we had to get out of town fast...we had to vacate in 30 days (and also the pictures in the post office), we had to rent while our new home was built and knew we would have to store furniture. We had them professionally pack one pod with our best and heaviest and most valuable furniture and store it. Costs a fortune to store it like that. We rented a 30 foot storage space in Cincinnati for the rest. (Not as expensive and we and family packed it) We drove our car down with a trailer full of things that we had packed carefully ourselves and put those things in the rental home garage. Henry returned to Cincinnati after the move to get the rest of the stuff and disperse what we didn't want...now that we had a better idea. He drove a 26 foot box truck down just before Thanksgiving.

One picture had the glass broken, but everything else did pretty well during this process. It cost us MUCH less. Someone once said it costs about a dollar a pound to move cross country if you hire professional movers. Loading up North is expensive but unloading down here is very reasonable. I was so afraid that somehow we would pick up someone elses bedbugs during the process, but thank goodness, that didn't happen.

Your pictures in the post office didn't do you justice at all. That orange jumpsuit look just isn't you. And while your hubby looks good in stripes a smaller stripe would be beter.
