My father in law who was staying at my house had problems with my golf cart backfiring. He dropped by THE VILLAGES GOLF CART MAN office and spoke to the mechanic. The mechanic told him that there was oil in the gas indicating the rings were gone. He said it would be $800 - $1200 to repair. I gave the go ahead from my home out of state. My father in law left the golf cart prior to leaving the villages. I then got a call from the repairman who told me that the pistons were gone also and that the full fee would be $1400 now. I asked if this was the total price and he said it was. I said I probably should just sell it for another one (this is a 1997 rebuilt gas Yamaha golf cart). The mechanic convinced me that the repairs would make it like new. I said I needed it for my tenants who were to arrived on Dec 1st (it was now November 3rd). He assured me he had a mechanic standing by to do the job in four or five days. As I arrived a week and a half later I stopped by the shop only to find my engine in a box getting ready to be shipped out. I was told that it had to go to an out of state manufacturer. I again said it had to be done by Dec 1st. They assured me it would. I called then received a call from the mechanic saying that when putting the engine in they found that the bearings were gone in the drive shaft and that had to be replaced. I was told it would be over $300. for that.
I called and called and finally reached someone and was told the cart was just about ready and would be delivered on November 30th. It was delivered and my new tenant arrived the next day on Dec. 1st. My tenant who does not have a car and relies on the golf cart to get around called me and said that the golf cart kept stalling and backfiring (the original problem). I called the mechanic who went over and according to the tenant adjusted a few things on the engine. After the tenant left at the end of the month he told me that the golf cart still backfires from time to time and runs a little rough. Total bill for the golf cart repair over $2100.00 and it stills has the same problem it had when brought in. I WILL NEVER BRING ANOTHER GOLF CART TO THEM EVER, EVER AGAIN!!! They are at 110 Lagrande Boulevard, The Villages, FL
