Hot water in kitchen sink

point of use heater under the sink. There are 120 volt models available that plug in. Need to change the dedicated outlet for the disposal to a duplex.

There are what's called "hot water recirculators" on the market. There are different variations on the concept. One that's simple to install consists of a small electric pump that would, in your case, install under the kitchen sink. There would be a connection from the hot water line under the sink to the inlet of the pump and the outlet would connect to the cold water line. The pump can be triggered in a number of ways - by a timer, by a manual switch, etc. - which will start the flow of hot water into the cold water line. Sounds odd, doesn't it? But basically it's creating a circulation of pulling in hot water and pushing it out through the cold water line.......thus making hot water more readily available at your sink. You'd have to fire the pump up a minute or two ahead of when you'd really want the water. Arguable downside: You'll have hot water coming out of your cold water faucet for a while after you fire up the pump. Google "hot water recirculator" (without the quotes) for more info.

If you want the hot water instantly at any point in time, then an instant hot water heater would be your best bet. But that's for drawing hot water from a separate dispenser head and might not be what you're looking for. Google "hot water dispenser" (again, without the quotes) for more info.

you can buy the circulating pump unit from home depot and it is run by timer that you set for the times you want hot water. Uou will have hot want in a matter of seconds when you turn on the water. I have one on my system and i love it. Instant hot water

I had On Demand Hot Water heaters in Costa Rica. They worked great and the water was plenty hot. I thought they were an improvement on the USA-Style tanks.

Down there a single unit to handle the whole house (Kitchen, Laundry, Bath) cost less than $200 ... dunno what they cost here.

FWIW, there were also on demand water heaters contained inside a Shower Head ... Kinda unnerving to see an electrical line running to a shower head ... We called them Suicide Showers.

John....just curious. Is it just the kitchen sink, or are all others (showers, etc) also long on the warm-up??

I turned my hot water heater up to 135 from (I think) 120. Still takes a couple of minutes, but not as long as before, and the water is nice and hot.

Depends on the distance from the water heater to the faucet. Insulation and time since last use also comes into play.
