I know there have been threads on this subject before but I haven't seen where anyone gave their opinion on moving from New York to TV. We are looking for a reliable moving company. Anyone have any opinions? I know there is Allied, Mayflower and United in this area but have had no experience with any of them. I've heard of so many horror stories. Please help!

We moved from upstate NY (Binghamton area) and used ABF U-Pack Moving. We hired movers in NY to load and here in the Villages to help us unload. We did not bring much furniture so only used two relocubes. Even with paying the movers the total cost was under $3,000.

They were terrific to work with and the cubes arrived a day earlier than scheduled.

I would highly recommend them.

Patandbob, I'm confused. You said you hired movers to move you from NY to TV. Wasn't that the ABF Upack company? Do they come and drive your stuff to TV from NY? We aren't moving much furniture either, but a fair amount of boxed stuff.

The Villages have their own movers. A moving consultant came today to go over everything and tomorrow we will get a price. Moving from Staten Island, New York in March. Our stuff will have to be in storage for a month or 2 and I would rather have our things in The Village storage as we can go and get what we want. Hopefully the price will not be insane!!!!!

Hi Happinow- We just moved from Saratoga to TV and we used North American Van Lines on Big Boom Rd. in Glens Falls. They were great. They packed our stuff and kept it in storage in GF and then brought it to TV directly from GF. Try giving Jan a call. We found them wonderful to work with! Absolutely nothing broken!!!:coolsmiley:

Pj cd thanks. Someone else on Facebook recommended them too. We will be down there before our furniture so they can deliver it right to our house, where did you build or did you buy one already built?

I had a moving company Don Farr Moving & storage out of Pittsburgh. area. They were great! Came on time and were very careful both loading and unloading my stuff. Whatever they took apart, they also will put back together at the other end. NOTHING WAS BROKEN!!! Our things were in storage for over two months. A friend of mine had them move her to Fl. and recommended them to us.They do go to 48 states also. I can't find my paperwork with all my unpacking. You can google them.

Sorry I wasn't clear. With ABF Upack company, all they supply is the relocubes. They deliver the relocubes to your home and then you are responsible for loading them. We hired two movers from a company ABF recommended to load the heavy items but we did boxes, etc ourselves.

After the cubes are loaded, ABF picks them up and transports them to your new home. We then hired movers from around the Villages to help us unload and when done, ABF came back to pick up the cubes.

Except for being physically exhausting, it was easy peasy.

Ah...now I got it. Sounds back breaking though! I think I want someone to load the boxes on the truck. I have a touchy back and packing the boxes will be all I can handle. We are also transporting a vehicle, so hoping all can be transported in one truck.

When we were looking for a mover we noticed that another couple from Clifton Park were using Mabey Movers who have been long established in the Capital area. We were from Waterford right next to Clifton Park. To make a long story shorter we both wind up going through this organization for our moving needs.

Mabey works with Atlas Movers and in checking with the other couple we learned that everything went well. We contracted with Mabey/Atlas and had most items boxed for when they arrived. They packed what we didn't, mostly larger pictures and then loaded their semi vehicle, taking an inventory as they went along.

We moved down in October and they arrived ahead of when they anticipated they would and on the day after my wife arrived and were at our home when I later arrived. The only things that were broken that we are aware of are items we packed ourselves.

Knowing what we now know, we would hire them again. You can contact them if you wish and they will come to your home to give you an estimate without a commitment. At least I would think they will go up to your neck of the woods!

Here's their website address: http://www.mabeys.com/about.html

BTW, they weight their semi trailer before they arrive to load then weight it again afterword. That's how they calculate the final fee you get charged. When you get an estimate and fee is based on the weight, it could go up substantially like ours did, but not necessarily. We were underestimated by about 25%. Didn't surprise us though. Esitmating was difficult since we had so much to consider and we weren't even sure of everything going at the time of the estimate!

Thanks Skyguy. We will be interviewing a few to get a feel for the company. It's always good to get a few estimates as well.

Folks moving from the NYC/Long Island area may want to give Verity Van Lines good consideration. We used them when we moved from Nassau Co to TV. Very professional and very reliable. We packed some stuff by ourselves but on the day of the move they came and packed all the remaining items and everything arrived in TV undamaged, safe and sound.

VERITY VAN LINES is located in Seaford, NY and Lindenhurst, NY with an office in Palm Beach, FL. A good pipeline to FLorida.
Phone: 516-785-7620.

You were much kinder than I would have been. my husband would have voiced his opinion and made them get in gear. They are already getting paid for the job and I'm not sure a tip is an order? How about a swift kick if they don't? Anyhow, there's a company out of Albany called Maybe's and I think that's who we are going with. Thank for telling your experience. Moving companies are a shot in the dark. I just hope my stuff makes it safely, mostly my car!! We aren't shipping hardly any furniture. Will buy new. Glad all worked out for you in the end.

You better check on this. To my knowledge The Villages DOES NOT have their own movers. There is a company called "Village Movers" that caters to The Villages, but is not owned by them. When the movers store your things, you won't be able to get to them either.

Sounds good, but I think you got your information wrong.

Happinow. Call George Johnson...at TV Relocation. He will arrange for a couple different guys to come in and give quotes. We have just had the second today. We had Mayflower come out Friday and today Atlas. Of course it is the local guys who actually do the packing.

Go with the Villages Relocation Service. You won't be sorry. We used United through the Villages service and were completely satisfied. The movers they use work to maintain their profitable relationship with The Villages.
