What are your thoughts about a proposal from an Orlando woman to start a community for sex offenders in Sorrento, Florida, an area of Lake County near Mount Dora?

"Barbara Farris plans to build what she calls "housing for offenders habitats." Farris tells FOX 35 News that she could have two facilities open within three to six weeks, and she could house fifty sex offenders to start with but plans to move 288 sex offenders into central Florida in the coming months," according to an article from Fox 35 News Orlando.

Doesn't sound like something I would want near me or my grandkids

Me either, pauld315. I just read the stories about the proposal and wondered if there was anyone who wouldn't mind living next door to this type of neighborhood.

Sounds like FIGMO will get to have a few classes.

Yes, that does sound outrageous to do that - doubt if it would ever happen, though.

However, it is interesting to see how many sex offenders live in and around The Villages. There is a web site to see them and their addresses.

It is interesting to see how many sex offenders live anywhere.

Just what central Florida needs...more sex offenders. Seems that Florida has enough without importing them. JMHO.

It's interesting to read the reader comments at the end of online news articles. This one, after the article linked first above, sheds other light on the story.

If not wholly true, the part about luring hundreds of prisoners to send her $45 with no intention of providing anything.....and to "scare the bejesus out of citizens" is certainly plausible:

"Barbara Farris and Kimberly DeGoat do NOT have ANY plans on opening "sex offender habitats." They don't even have a paid website, just one of those free weebler sites. Indeed, they don't have a business license, nor team.

Also, Barbara Farris is a CRIMINAL FELON. She has started businesses, run the credit dry, then claim bankruptcy. She has stolen cars and charged dozens...yes, DOZENS... of times for stalking, and in Alabama, was even charged for menacing.

Her ONLY goal, other than get money from unsuspecting sex offenders foolish enough to send her the $45 fee, is to scare the bejesus out of citizens, forcing them to enact unconstitutional residency restrictions. THAT IS HER ONLY GOAL.
