Hello all.
I would like to upgrade our golfcart, and when we were up in The Villages last night I saw some that the rear seats actually folded when not in use.

Space is an issue for me currently and I LOVE this feature!! I saw this on a Yamaha cart. These are my questions;

1) Is this the only brand that does this?

2) If so, what year did they start doing this?

3) Are there any aftermarket kits that allow a person to do this on other brands? I really like to be able to fold that rear floor part so the cart is not much longer then a two seater.

On a side note, I really wish folks who were selling their used carts would post a picture......there is a good thread about this and it is really not difficult.....

Thank you in advance for any help! Frank

Frank, you might find it can be almost prohibitively expensive to retrofit the rear seat to an existing cart.....if you go the further steps to have the extended roof installed (requires a complete replacement of the original one), the Sunbrella package completely redone, and heavier duty rear shocks installed. We considered that as a potential option when we were tossing around golf cart ideas last year and ended up dismissing it purely over costs.

Best bet money-wise would be to find one that's already set up that way.

Bill :)

After market is available. 500 or so shocks are important with upgrade

We have one and we love it. It saves lots of room in the garage. We don't have the extended sunbrella top. We have a fold out cap that covers the clubs and the top half of people in back. How often do you have 4 people in the rain I dont. You can buy the kit for 500 installed on most models. Yahmaha does it and Masters on 441 across from marion market. I have a club car. That seat was why we bought the cart.

I think it's not the shocks but the springs, but they are not that much $

$500 for the seat is about right for after market on all brands

Thanks all!
I've since sold my E-Z Go cart and bought a used Par Car. I now plan on selling that to buy a newer Club car. I hope to have the back seat with the folding floor so it does not take up more room. I'm always looking for a good deal on a golf cart.....

Thanks,

Frank

The folding rear seat is why we bought a Star cart. It is 3 years old and we have had no problems at all and it is still peppy with the original batteries.

Yikes, you're right. As of January 2012 since they acquired GEM. Hope we won't get a parts shortage over the years. Not what I expected from a company with its reputation.:sigh:

Thank you! The Star carts look quite impressive. I'm leaning towards an electric Club Car only because we are not in the Villages, but in The Plantation...and there is a Club car serviceperson here locally and because of that 95% of the carts down here are Club cars.

I did see a Club Car at one of our pools the other day that DID have a nice folding rear seat with a folding foot rest. When folded it only added an inch if that. I took plenty of pictures with my iphone.

It was sold by a place called D & C carts from up by the markets of marion I believe.....although I could not find them online. Anyway, now I KNOW this rear seat DOES exist.....I just have to find out where I can get one...

Thanks! Frank

I'd like to find out the maker of this folding rear seat system. For those of us who would like to save some space in our garages, this might be the ticket.

Thanks, Frank

Did you ever find out who makes this folding rear seat? I want one of these.

No I did not...but I've seen more of them around. I think my neighbor has one on his Club Car and he told me he bought it at Nobles....he told me it was around $500.00 I do not know if that included beefing up the rear shocks, etc.

It's just something I'm keeping my eye out for....

Respectfully, Frank D.

I just found this listed online finally $395 + Ship ($$$- heavy item)+ tax. Not sure if you can save on shipping by picking it up locally.

Check out frugaldougalsgolf dot com and go to folding seats

I called up Frugal Dougals and spoke to Peter and he spoke highly of this kit. He just posted this listing on his website today after I inquired about it. He has it on his own cart. Give him a call. Nice guy to talk to.

A neighbor purchased a new EZ-Go RXV golf cart from AGC (Advantage Golf Cars) on CR 101. They paid approx. $700 for the folding rear-seat option, which they love. So I'd give them a call. Not sure if EZ-Go offers the folding rear seat or if it was an aftermarket option installed by AGC (352) 259-8566.

I bought a 2 seater Yamaha about 4 years ago and wanted to add the flip-down seat for the occassional need for a 4 seater with guest might stay for a day or two. I asked The Villages golf cart store and they gave me a business card for AAA Golf Carts who make a flip-down seat for them. I had Larry Newman of AAA Golf Carts (352-572-3090) install mine and I am REALLY happy.

Since the rear seat wasn't going to be used very often, I felt I could keep the cart's original hard top. They added brake lights to the flip-up foot plate so the brake and turn signal lights are very visible when the boot plate isn't being used. Also, they match the fabric and pattern on the front seats perfectly so it doesn't look like an add-on.

If you are interested in adding the flip-down seat call him. It wasn't cheap, amost a $1000, but it allows me to take 4 to the pool or restaurant when people 'drop in'.

Thank you!

Just got my rear seat filing kit as shown above (made by JH Global). There are 2 versions made by them. One made in USA and one made in China. Made in USA one is about $100 more, but is made if heavier gauge steel and the seat stitching is much nicer. I'll post up some pics once I get it installed. Very nice quality kit. Turns the bag well into a nice storage trunk area when the footrest is folded up. But the biggie is that the cart is just a hair longer than 2 seater with foot rest up and I don't have to worry about wife/kids/myself banging a shin on the foot rest when folded down.
