I think the article gives all of the reasons why people do this. I personally don't take anything. My son works in the the hotel management industry told me they have a cost configured in the budget as people take terri clothe robes, etc, when leaving the hotel. It sounds pretty expensive as he works at a top notch hotel chain and the stuff taken isn't cheap..

It ain't right but it is what it is. :)

A good point by 2B. The owner of a couple of McDonalds up our way decided to keep all the condiments behind the counter - if you want anything, ask for it or, most generally, the staff will ask you how many whatevers you'd like. He was amazed at the amount of ketchup packets going out the door when they'd leave a whole container of them sitting out! He said he personally watched people stuffing their pockets with them. It made an amazing difference to his bottom line when he put them behind the counter.
