So sorry to hear your little one is not feeling well. We use Amy Barnett, owner of PAWS Animal Hospital in Laurel Manor (352) 259-2439 as our vet and really like her and her staff. I remembered I once called and there was someone she referred to during the hours they were closed. I called for you and the message said to contact Emergency Vet Clinic of Central Florida (352) 728-4440 for emergiencies during the hours they were closed. I have never used them but if it is an emergency and can't wait till tomorrow ... I wouldn't hesitate to call. Best of luck to you and especially your Doxi.

From one doxie owner to another, I can certainly sympathize and empathize with you. Hope you can get you pup taken care of soon. To my understanding, the Emergency Clinic in Leesburg is the only thing available at night or on weekend. We have not had to use them and hope we never have to, but we did drive down there once and punched it into the GPS just in case we have to find it in the middle of the night some time. It's really not hard to find, but in the middle of the night it might not be quite so easy.
Good luck and I hope your dog has a speedy recovery.

I have used them more than once and they are fantastic. If you call them they will give you directions to get there. They will also send their exam results to your regular vet (if you have one), but their care is very thorough and they have a number of vets who specialize in many areas.
If you want a vet, I use Park Heights Anim Hosp in Fruitland Park. Dr. Valdez is the best.
Good luck, I know the stress you are under, and why does it always happen on the weekends or off hours, huh!

My wife always takes an extra once over of our girls as the weekend is approaching. We've been to too many emergency vets over the years. The regular vets aren't cheap, but in our experience, are still less than the emergency vets. If there's anything that looks suspicious on Thursday or Friday, we try to have our girls checked before the weekend.

It appears that my poor Heidi is suffering from Anxiety....All that head hanging and slinking around is her little "panic attack" mode... I am so happy to find out she has panic attacks...It explains alot. Thank You all for your help and concern. It was a warm welcome to the Villages. After Miss Heidi feels better we will get out and get to know the place better...again Thanks! Donna aka "gretch298"

So happy to hear you have a diagnosis for Heidi..and that its not back trouble. Not to dismiss Anxiety but something you can work thru in time to alleviate her stress. At some point we hope to make TV home and one of our canines will be a challenge I am sure with her level of anxiety!! But we will see her thru them and in time I know she will adapt to her " future" new home. Good luck Gretch and Heidi:)

What did you think of the veterinary emergency clinic? I'm just wondering in case I ever have to rush my dog there. Thanks

Hi Gretch,
Moving can be stressful for animals and their people too. I'm glad your sweet doggie is ok. Give her lots of TLC. I'm sending some your way too.
Keep us posted on how she adjusts. Hugs.

Kathie, I thought Buffalo Ridge had opened an Emergency Clinic in The Villages?

I'm happy to hear that Heidi is (physically) ok. Moves can be very stressful for some dogs. Sending best wishes that she will settle in and feel at home here soon.

Gretch298,
I sure sympathize with you. I own 2 cats and have spent much time agonizing over emergency visits for them. Have you ever heard of Thundershirt? Some of my dog owner friends swear by it in helping with anxiety. They like it better than drugging their dogs. It costs about $30. My vet here in Virginia sells it but I know you can go online at QVC and they have them, or try their website. Just a thought. Will be in TV come February and it is good to know of a good emergency vet service. Good Luck!

Bare, not sure its open yet or in the near future. Thought I wouldn't send Gretch on a wild-goose-chase, and since we were talking about the Leesburg clinic and I had a lot of experience there, I thought I would just post about it.

I have several friends who have had good results with the thundershirt as well.

I got one of my thundershirts from Kate's Pet Boutique (aisle G-116) at Marion Market. You can call her at 352-347-7071 during the week to make sure she still has some. Her price was better than the store and the internet. They really work well to soothe the dogs when they get anxious, particularly our 3 year old who tends to think every noise is something to be concerned about! The 13 year old is deaf so nothing much bothers her, but she seems to feel more settled when she has the coat on and it is lightning outside.
Glad that your baby is OK and not physically sick.

The people were wonderful to us. I am so glad for them and the info from all of you.Miss Heidi is now the proud owner of a ThunderShirt also. Today she seemed much more relaxed. (although the garbage truck this morning made her bark) Mr. Dieter has handled the move very well. Thanks again for all your help. Looking forward to getting out and about to meet all the wonderful people here.

Kathie ... Thanks for checking. That is very good news that Buffalo Ridge Emerg will open Feb. 4 (just north of CR 466). I had to take my dog Brutus to Leesburg on a Sunday in 2009. He was having seizures from a brain tumor. Thank heavens friends drove me, it was a horrible situation and I was way too upset to drive safely.
An accessible Emergency Clinic within TV will be a Godsend.

Comes in a spray form and an electric plug in form available online or in pet food stores. I know they have a cat version, but not sure if they have a dog version. The pheneromes in the spray calm my cat before travel. We spray it into his carrier before we leave. We don't have to use the plug-in anymore because our cat is used to travel. There were good coupons for $10 off that you could get online. Just download the coupon and use in stores. Check it out by googling Comfort Zone.
