This was one of my LEAST favorite movies of all time. I found it sooooo slow, boring, and confusing. The most important elements of a movie are interesting characters and a compelling storyline. This movie had neither. I found it interesting, when talking with a theater employee, that he said 10 people walked out of the movie at the previous showing. If anyone disagrees, I would be interested in knowing your opinion.

I have not seen this movie but heard the same opinion from a few other avid movie-goers about Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy.

I read the book, published 1974, and later saw the original TV miniseries, 1980, starring Alec Guinness as George Smiley. It is available on Netflix. I thoroughly enjoyed both. There were two sequels, Honorable Schoolboy and Smiley's People. Both good. Smiley's People was also a TV miniseries and available on Netflix.
I am sorry to hear the recent version is a disappointment.
I enjoyed John LeCarre's earlier works including the classic, The Spy Who Came In From the Cold, both book and movie.

Totally agree.....went this weekend due to the rave reviews in the paper. At the end of the movie I turned to my friend and said, "ok, so WHO was the mole?" haha...talk about hard to follow!

I'll be sure to re-read the book before I see this movie. Loved the book. Have you ever noticed that films like this seem to get the most Academy Award hype? Remember "The English Patient"? The most boring film I ever saw, but it got all kinds of accolades. So I'm betting this one will get an Oscar nomination.

This was a bad picture in a year of bad pictures (slow, scenes too dark, chopped editing, accents hard to follow, etc.) . . . this flick, Decendents, the Guard, and Courageous are this years Rotten Tomatoes. The only flicks worth the price of the ticket were War Horse, Red Tail, the Girl with the Dragon Tatoo, J.Edgar and the best . . . Moneyball. Moneyball took a boring subject like sabermetrics and made it a compelling subject. Decendents; The Guard; Courageous; and Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy took non-boring subjects and made them boring!

It's not that i'm a big fan of the mindless action flicks like Transformers, I do enjoy smarter movies, but Tinker Tailor was incredibly boring and confusing, me and a friend actually walked out.

Thought it was intelligently written and very well acted. I enjoy Benedict Cumberbatch, he's excellent as a modern Sherlock Holmes on PBS.
