Alright Swimdawg, you lobbied AT@T. Many of us were present when you had AT&T on the phone at Crispers. And I personally know that you have barraged them with communications. We gave up on them, but we should have trusted you. Boy Howdy, you came through for all of the AT@T users in The Villages. When those two towers go up everyone can call mom 'n 'em without any dropped calls, but that was only AT&T.

NO one, not even you, can change things with the reigning powers of The Villages. If they say no indoor pool....then you will have to eat cake.;)

And who is responsible for getting a traffic signal on my corner back home....on the busiest road in Western New York.... Niagara Falls Blvd.....when the politicians, the DOT and all the higher ups said it wasn't necessary? You doubt me? It's true....the "swimdawg" traffic signal is now in place on Niagara Falls Blvd back home.

Now for the indoor pool here in TV.....

Hmmmm....but I do love cake. :icon_wink:

I'm a retired AT&T guy, My blood is blue!
That said, I've been truly aggravated with the poor cell service in Hemingway. I'm so close to dropping them it hurts.
I hope this helps, I'm really tired of dropped calls. Thanks !

swimdawg, alright , I read the article, by the end of September it says.

now here's an old AT&T engineering fable.....

an older woman gets married for the 4th time,
she whispers to her groom "I'm a virgin".
In disbelief, he says "how can that be if you've been married three times?"

she says "husband #1 fell down a stair at the alter after the ceremony and died instantly. husband #2 was killed in an auto crash leaving the ceremony."

he says, "oh my gosh? and what about husband #3?"

she says "oh, #3 was an AT&T Bell Labs engineer and I was married to him for 30 years til he died. Each night, he'd sit on the end of the bed and
tell me how great our sex life was going to be"
-------------------------------

just a little humor whilst I wait for September.
I've seen to much to be other than skeptical.

September of what year??? Heh-heh! :)

"Seeing, (or rather talking-and-listening), is believing!" Stories were floating around last year, some of them validated via AT&T personnel, that signal strength and coverage was going to improve by late fall or the end of the year. We were there in December and our signal was exactly the same as it has been for the last year.

I'd love to get excited about this news as we drop at least half our calls from our home in the Village of St Charles but I also remember being told a tower was going up in September 2011, then in February 2012 but now it's September 2012. Seems a lot of our friends are switching to Verizon and we may be close behind.

Verizon service in TV is very good. I have yet to be where there is no service or had a dropped call.

The above commentary goes beyond TV as well.

I know way too many friends and family that have AT&T issues elsewhere as described here in TV.

When we are in the mountains and lakes of TN Verizon customers are the only ones with service, not standing on the roof or a block down the road standing on a box to get a signal!!!:)

It's not just western NY, it's upstate NY, believe me ! There is a different mentality than downstate New Yorkers.

I was born in NYC, and lived my whole life in the NYC metro area, but spent a lot of time with work responsibilities in upstate NY.

Different kind of people and different attitudes.

Dennis - Like you, we've never had a problem with AT&T cell reception in most areas where they profess to have coverage either......til we tried making/receiving calls from our home in Duval.

We're just snowflakes at this point so it's not enough of an overall issue to make me want to do something different to address it. But it sure is a PITA for us when we're there! However......the neighbors do get a chuckle out of seeing me standing in the driveway on top of a ladder, wearing a metal colander on my head, and holding a roll of aluminum foil high up in the air while trying to use the cell phone! :D

We continue to hold out hope that AT&T will see fit to follow through on their commitments to improve their service down our way sometime soon.

I don't get it. Why would anybody want to keep AT&T in TV. It is lousy service here and many other places around the country.

In 2000 we retired sold our house and moved aboard our sailboat. Up until then we had AT&T but cruising the East Coast service was sporadic and unreliable. Switched to Verizon and all was better. In 2005 we sold the boat and decided to do the RV thing. Same result Verizon was the best by far especially out West.

In 2009 we decided to become dirt dwellers again, bought here in TV and AT&T was good here so we switched back to AT&T for the roll over advantage. This and last year something changed and AT&T went in the toiled. Two months ago we switched back to Verizon and will likely stay with them. Never lost our number as we could port from provider to provider.

I'm just wondering why settle for lousy service and hollow promises.

My point exactly. AT&T is not to be trusted. They will "promise" you anything to keep you as a subscriber. Had the same promises in Ohio a few years ago...they were going to erect new towers in my area..to this date STILL not erected. Go with Verizon. You'll be a lot happier!

I have AT&T and no problems in TV. I keep it because of the international travel coverage. I can go most places in the world and AT&T works fine. Verizon does not. For years I had AT&T and my wife had Verizon. Mine worked everywhere and hers worked almost no where.

That is why I keep AT&T. So please before you jump to conclusions, ask why. There may be very valid reasons.

I have an IPHONE 3G and my husband has a Blackberry. We both had drop calls inside the house with AT&T. We are down from Arnold Palmers. Like everyone else we had to find a place outside to make a call. last year AT&T recommended buying their MicroCell Mini Tower. It hooks up thru your cable moden/wireless. After set up you have entered all the phone numbers that are being used within the house and it activates a signal when you call out or someone calls in. When it is activated at the top of your phone you see the words MicroCell so you know its working. If you don't see the words you just turn the phone off and then on again and it pulls the signal in. It only works within the house or lanai. We thought our neighbors could use it by adding their numbers, which you can do up to five but it didnt work.Too far away. The cost is $100.00 which we loudly complained about. Our cell phone bill is enough and we should not have to pay additional for another product to get cell service. AT&T is very aware of the problem, some at the stores will admit the lack of coverage, others seem to play dumb. MicroCell works and thats all we care about for now. AT&T said last year they put in the paper work for a new tower but everything has to be approved an as of Nov 2011 it still hadnt. For whatever reason, there are more people with lack of service than those with no problems. For people having issues this product seems to be the only thing out there that helps. Also don't let anyone tell you it's because you are in a stucco house. The truth is lack of a decent cell tower in our area at this time.
