Me too. Men maybe, especially ex sailors, big tattoos on legs and necks and arms on women make me prejudge the owners.

I got 3 small buterflies tatooed on my shoulder to mark my 60th birthday. It did not hurt that much. Tatooing has come a long way. It is much safer and easier than in the past. I read that the fastest growing number of first time tatoos was in the 50+ age group.

There is a tattoo shop in Baylee Plaza on 27/441, 1 mile north of TV. Same plaza as Taverna Red and Sears.

I got my tattoo in 1996. Thought it was my mid-life crisis purchase since I couldn't buy a red convertible. It has a heart, four-leaf clover, purple rose, and a quarter moon with sun shining on it (because I stayed up late at nights and went to work early in the morning). Unless I have my swimsuit on or a lower cut blouse, you can't see it.

BUT in 2010, I bought a silver convertible here in The Villages. One of my kids thought I was having a late life crisis to move here AND buy a convertible.

Wonder what my next-life crisis purchase will be????? ;)

If you would not allow spray paint grafitti on the front of your house or Mercedes, Lamborghini, or BMW, then why would you paint grafitti on your own body??

It's interesting to me that almost anytime someone asks for information on this forum, so many members are quick to "speak up" and give their opinion (usually negative) rather than answer the question - if they have an appropriate response.

My father always used to tell us, "don't open your mouth before engaging your brain" which equates to me that some things are better left unsaid.

I often tell my better half, if the day comes that I start acting negative and miserable about everything and everybody, like I so often see on here, to please put me out of my misery.

So many nonsense (and often negative) opinions about tattoos, smokers, whether we wear shorts or not in the winter, which restaurants suck and why, golf cart traffic enforcement..and on and on..

There, I've shared my thoughts too, and behaved like so many others...jeesh.
(Sorry dad, I didn't listen this time)

Uh, no Idea where a good place is to get a tattoo, but hey..go for it! Great idea regardless of what your neighbors and "friends" on here think. Live your life and enjoy it till it hurts. I for one, do not judge people based on the color of their tattooed skin.

I have to agree, so I'll answer the question raised by the OP first. I really like Stan's Tattoos in Daytona Beach. He is an artist and did my first tattoo almost 20 years ago. He's still in business today and my tattoo still looks great.

Now I'll chime in on the negative comments regarding tattoos: If you don't want 'em, don't get 'em. If you don't like seeing them, don't look.

Finally I'll raise a question: Why would you pre-judge anybody for any reason? Some of the kindest, most intelligent people I know have tattoos and some of the biggest dirtbags I have ever met do not. Pre-judging someone for having a tattoo is akin to pre-judging someone based on their religion, where they come from, or what kind of car they drive (I left out the color of someone's skin because there is no choice in that). The word "prejudge" is the root of the word prejudice, something the world needs a lot less of. Why would anyone knowingly want to be prejudiced? My momma always told me, "never judge a book by its color" and I've tried to live by this creed for all of my life.

I always tried to get to know my daughter's friends before deciding who she could/couldn't hang out with. Just the way I was raised and the way I tried to raise my daughter.

As far as tattoos, I just don't see a woman with a pretty flower, mermaid, heart tattoo, etc. as "trashy." I have seen some terrible tattoos, but try to judge the tattoo and not the person.

I think the perception of tattoos has definitely change over the years, although one wouldn't know it by this thread. Way back in the 60's and 70's tattoos represented being rebellious and not many people had them.

Have you ever noticed how many young kids have tattoos? A lot of them do and they consider it an art form. For some it is a art. Most tattoos are representative of some kind of meaning to the person that engraved it on their skin. Lots of stories behind those tattoos.

My husband for example got one a few years ago of our family. Its beautiful, and when people inquire or comment he is more than happy to tell the story how the ink on his arm represent everything he loves in life.

I must agree with "why would you want to get a tat? Why mess up what God gave you? But, you are an adult and have the freedom to do what you want with it. I've learned not to judge a book by it's cover. My personal experience......in my townhome community where I live, there is a gentleman who lives down the street. He is fairly unkept, not shaven, hair needs a cut, has a limp. Almost looks like he could be homeless. I would kind of go out of my way to avoid him when out walking. I noticed that he walks excessively around out in my community because I often pass him, usually avoiding eye contact. Well, after passing him all summer I decided to say hi and exchange pleasantries. Weeks passed and we talked a bit more and a bit more. Here's what I found out....he walks excessively because he has a medical condition that requires him to walk frequently or his chance of death is greater. Also, it's very cold here and he keeps on walking outside, no boots, just sneakers, sometimes a hat, sometimes not. I asked him if he minded the cold and he said he used to race sled dogs and loved the cold. Oh, he also has a 10 year old son. This gentleman must be at least 70. Kinda broke my heart. Inspire of his situation, He seemed fairly happy. Now when I pass him I always speak and I'm looking around my house to see what I can give he and his family as far as clothes go. It's clear they don't have much. Moral of the story.....don't judge a book by it's cover. I'm so glad I got to know this man even if it's just on the surface. He inspires me. So, if someone wants to get a tattoo , I'm not going to judge them.

I try to be open minded about these things and certainly there is the argument that "volume is a defense to error." But I still associate tatoos with being dirty and as an identifier with a specific group like a gang, or the Nazi's tatooing the Jews. I probably would not hire someone who had visible tatoos. You have a right to make a statement by your actions but I have a right to not agree with it.

While I don't agree with your preconceptions, I absolutely agree with your right as an employer to not hire someone with visable tattoos. It is your right as an employer to hire whomever you want. It is also a "risk" that all who get tattoos have to weigh very carefully if they are in the job market.

A lot of tattoos nowadays are not permanent. If you get the right one, they will only last for 5 to 7 years, then fade away.
Some of my younger friends have had them done, knowing they are not for keeps.

I could have gotten a tattoos of Twiggy when I was young, but today it would look more like Rosie O'Donnell. :22yikes:

When I was a teenager I used to draw my own tattoos on my arms using indelible colored pencils and water. They looked good and lasted about a week even with my swimming just about every day!

I certainly agree that we make our own decisions about getting tattoos, etc., and that it is certainly our right to do so---however, I always think about the above--- years later----when gravity and other things set in as we age. I can see the activity posted on the schedule at the local Nursing Home "Game time---Guess what the tattoo "was."

Must be something about the Big 60 birthday. My brother wanted to know what I wanted for my Big 60 BD....and he almost flipped when I said I'd like a tattoo. But what else would a gal born on St. Pat's Day want but a beautiful tiny SHAMROCK tattoo on my left ankle? The Big 70 is getting closer....what will The Big 70 bring????

My wife has one tattoo of a clutch of violets, she created herself, which she got in honor of her mother who died of leukemia at much too young an age. Violets being the unofficial "official symbol" of the disease due to it's supposed cancer fighting properties. Violet was also the name of my beloved mother-in-law.

I'm not a huge fan of women with tattoo's and I won't ever get one for myself, but I think my wife's is beautiful.

Actually, I'm the person Lynn mentioned at the very beginning who had a tattoo on her bucket list. Little did she (or I) know there would be such a big response.

I'm 65 and frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn if by the time I get to a nursing home they make bets on what the heck the tattoo was because it shriveled up on my old body. By that time, I probably won't remember myself, and maybe I'll make a bet on it, too and win a male nurse to give me my night time meds.

Loved reading the pros and cons responses. Still getting it, and I hope that Gracie Girl keeps me on her friend list. :doggie: Please!

Should never be too old to do what you want...as long as it doesn't hurt someone else. (btw, I hoped to get a small tattoo on my ankle of a moon and stars...I've always asked for the moon and stars all my life, and luckily, I've been blessed to get my wish with having a great life, great husband, great family and friends. )

Well, my friend and I had our tattoos done today. Wasn't bad at all...felt like stinging bees, and after the first few seconds, not a problem. I ended up with a sun and yin/yang inside the sun. My friend got a rose. We both love them. Our husbands love them, too. So, mark that off my bucket list. (hmmmm, sky diving next??? nah, I'm afraid of heights).

I am a 28yr old female, I have a college degree, I played college basketball, I owned my own business for 6 years, I am very involved in my church, I love to help people, and over 50% of my body is covered in tattoos. Oh, and I live in The Villages.

Can you recommend a great place in TV for a Scairdy Cat to get a tattoo?

Congratulations. Could you please mention here (or PM me) where you had it done.

I have a knitting needle and some acrylic paints, Bare.

I was a business woman and worked for a very conservative company. I wore my dark colored power suits to work everyday. However, underneath my blouse, I had 3 butterflies tattooed on my shoulder. It always made me feel sexy and a little naughty. Once in a while I would show them off by wearing a stapless cocktail dress to a party. I love my tattoos and so does my husband.

GG, I knew I'd hear from you on this tattoo idea!

I know you're an awesome painter, but I think I'll stick with a professional. Just a teeny tiny butterfly on my foot or ankle!
