DENTAL Implants etc. in Costa Rica

It's hard enough to find a trustworthy and extremely skilled dentist or oral surgeon in our HOME STATE, much less in a foreign country where one doesn't speak the language and cannot ascertain whether the truth is being told about a health practitioner's credentials.

Even here where each state's licensing bureaus are computerized, it is a huge task to find out whether a dentist or dr. has left practice or has been booted in another state because of disciplinary actions or revocations/suspensions of licensing.

And as always, you get what you pay for. There are certain things I'd not go cheap on like drilling into bone and hoping the strictest standards of sterile technique and sterilization of all equipment and facilities have been maintained.

I understand your concerns. On the other hand, let's say you needed a hip replacement. Would you go to the surgeon who does 3 per month or the surgeon who does 30 per week? For me, the resume stuff and sterile stuff is also important; yet if had had the choice, I would choose the most experienced surgeon. How about one who had done over 9,000 implants and has taught the technique to other dentists? Getting what you pay for IS so important; yet this type of work doesn't need to be so outrageously expensive here in the U.S. It's a new paradigm, I know, yet you can get the same or better work done for your money elsewhere. It's not the paradigm I grew up with but I still like rock & roll.

Don't forget the anesthesiologists nor take lightly the "sterile stuff".......the anesthesiologist.....or nurse in another country...is more important to your staying alive than the carpenter replacing the hip.....and infection and or MRSA in the bone due to unregulated sterilization and sanitation standards would make it ALL the disaster of a lifetime. All because of trying to save a couple thousand dollars.

I'm certainly not here to convince you otherwise.Thousands and thousands of Americans are now going abroad for medical and dental work. Blue Cross has even endorsed many of these practices. Someone on this forum asked for a personal referral for dental work and I felt obliged to share my experience. Personal services such as dental work are often best discovered with a referral from someone who has actually had the experience, up close and personal. There are practices right here in the U.S. that suffer the very concerns you are mentioning. And I'm not talking about saving a couple of thousand, rather Thousands and Thousands. Each to their own. Just trying to help.

I lived in Costa Rica for five years (2005-2010) The ex-pats there are very pleased with the high quality and low price of medical services there. The dental work I had there (not implants) cost about 25% of USA prices.

Course I lived there, and did not have any travel expenses.

I would have no reservations about having any dental work done there.
