Just wondering how many new home owners in the Villages
are experiencing issues with their Whirlpool Appliances?
Our home is less that 5 months old our microwave died
It has approximately 10 minutes use on it.
I called the home warranty department figuring they would just come out remove it and install a new one.
I was wrong and told it was up to me to call Whirlpool.
I must say they were very nice and 2 days later a service tech showed up.
Not to make along story he has returned 2 times and it's still not operational waiting for parts. One more thing be sure to register your appliances with the manufacturer the villages does not register them up installation .
I thought it would be automatically done as part of the home building process.
Only found out not so when I had an issue.

Surprised it was not cheaper for them to just swap it out? Maybe another call to whirlpool.
The Villages left GE and went with Whirlpool because of performance and warranty.
Thanks for the update I figured our appliances were registered by the builder. Opps!

Two days before settlement on our new CYV we stopped a refrig repairman comming out of our new home, he had been working on the box which was not cooling and he assured us that it was now fully functional(:undecided:). After move in it malfunctioned again. After waiting a week for parts the service co installed a new chiller. It workrd for two weeks. I called the Warranty dept and the service company and a number provided by warranty for Whirlpool and insisted that they give me a replacement. A few moments later a rep from Whirl- called and agreed to re[lace. My suspicion is that Warranty pushed the issue on my behalf. I doubt that Whirl wants to lose this contract over quality issues

We closed in Feb. 11, microwave died once in May, called warranty dept, told to go thru Whirlpool, after about 4 visits from Fields Appliance, the microwave worked until Oct. and died again, had to go thru Whirlpool again, this time, we insisted we wanted a new microwave. The only thing, they could replace us with at that time, was a Kitchenaid. the Kitchenaid has worked fine, but we had to wait about two weeks to get it in and installed.
Our Ice Maker has also had to be replaced. I had to call warranty dept., they were completely out of the loop, as far as any warranty on this microwave, had no idea it had been replaced, unless I had called.

When we did our walk thru with the builder before closing, he told us very emphatically to be sure and register the Whirlpool appliances. Also, if you call the 800 number, you get a 2 yer warranty instead of the standard 1 year. It is supposed to be done within 30 days of purchase, I think. I don't know how this would affect those of you that close by e-mail/fax/UPS/FEDEX, or however you do it without actually being here.

When I became a Villager back in 2001, they gave me a hard-covered binder called "The Path to Becoming a Villager". In the section labeled Appliances, the first thing it says to do is to register your warranties with the manufacturer by completing and mailing the warranty cards immediately.
In my case I went to the web site and registered all of the appliances.
If they do not give out the book anymore it is too bad. The book has a wealth of information in it for the new home owner.

Sounds like these appliances are junk. Might be better to put in another brand right from the start. I wish TV gave you an appliance credit so we could pick a better brand.

The Villages left GE because Whirlpool outbid them when the contract came up for renewal, and as an added incentive, included a nice signing bonus.Had nothing to do with performance and everything to do with..................MONEY!

We have not moved in yet but found out who the appliances came from and just upgraded to stainless steel and higher end whirlpool. They switched it out and credit you and deliver! That is one solution and you choose what you want

We re-modeled our home in NY 4 years ago and put in GE Profile top line in the entire home.
Four compresser failures and one ice maker on the Fridge.
The last compressor being three days before we closed and $400 later the new owner was happy.
The dishwasher pump failed twice and second time leaked water ,there by ruining the new hardwood floors in the kitchen- TILE in the new home.
Washer motor failed
Dryer motor Failed
I have been told that nothing is good anymore. Two reasons. Off shore China and new EPA energy requirements make the compressors and motors energy efficient but at the same time built so marginal they fail.
I think it would be wise for us to buy the extended warranty.
I did at Lowes on our new MayTags. Made in America so I bought them but who knows where the parts come from.

I would not put GE anything in my home. Not so sure about Whirlpool. I'm skeptical.....We usually put top quality appliances in. But with the way TV does it I guess we have to go with their brands. Not sure if purchasing "top of the line" in their model will help or if we will just waste our money. Something tells me to have them install the cheapest everything and then take them out and put what we want in.

Since buying our CYV last March we have had problems with our whirlpool dryer, washing machine twice and our refrigerator twice. I am definitely very unhappy with these appliances. It almost seems like they are seconds.

To me, this is starting to look like a good candidate for the POA to weigh in on. It has the potential to be another great victory on their already impressive record.

Happinow, I can tell you that you do NOT need to purchase appliances through the TV, you can opt out!!! They will give you a credit, we just did that ourselves, so I know it is true, only catch, they have to install the microwave as it is "vented", but not the washer, dryer, dishwasher, fridge or stove. So, good news for you, you can get what you want. :a040:

I was surprised too. I am one of many who have had no problems with appliances. If you have a problem with anything...call warranty. They have never failed us.

Thanks DebbieB. We wanted Maytag DW and Samsung fridge with the freezer in the bottom. I'm not sure what to get for a stove. Haven't looked at them yet. Had our hearts set on gas but that probably won't work. Afraid of the lines in the attic. Thanks for the info.

Unless things have changed in 3 1/2yrs I am not sure this is entirely correct. Our home was a "spec" home when we bought it. The appliances were GE which we did not want. Answer from TV was "Sorry but that is what comes with this house". Now if you are building new then they probably will allow you to opt out of the appliances.

No natural gas service in any of the homes that have built in the last few years - and none of the ones currently being built as well.

It is true for when you build a new home. We are, just saw this week's pictures, house is done. WooHoo! Sorry, should have clarified that it was only for when you build a new home only. I knew Happinow was building a new home, didn't even think of "spec" homes or used homes already built. Can only be opted out prior to construction. We did so before we signed the final papers to start building. Was put into our contract.

We have now been in our home for about three weeks. After the first night we woke to a kitchen floor with a huge pool of water; it was coming from the "upgraded" Whirlpool refrigerator; after an evaluation by the Fields technition, seems the valve permitting water into the ice maker was defective; a new part was ordered and installed. So far so good! I must admit I was very surprised; I mean "Whirlpool" is a well known brand, one I grew up with which I thought always stood for quality. Fields was very responsive and competent in taking care of the problem; but as I say; it was all a little disappointing.

I think that MIGHT have to do with debris in the line left from construction.

Wow - that is surprising. We met with the design center this past August and were told we HAD to take the appliances that came with the house. I wanted to bring my own and was told no.
I'm glad for those starting to build. Wish they had allowed it sooner. Anyone know when this change took place?

When we sat down with the design center.
We had 3 choices of Whirlpool appliances
White, Black or Stainless Steel. There was no option of buying your own
except the washer and dryer.
Update the microwave is fixed
after 3 service calls
Whirlpool realized that this model has a problem with the electronics and came up with the Update Kit to fix the problem.
In my opinion it never should have been installed. I wonder how many more are out there sitting in new homes just waiting to fail ? The right thing to do would be to remedy the situation before it becomes an inconvenience.

We just moved into a new home in the Village of Charlotte. We bought our own washer and dryer at Sears. We bought Whirlpool Duet in the silvertone finish front loader. They were delievered and the washer kept tripping the breaker. Sears said it was the electric circuits so we had to call the warranty dept and they sent the electrician. After he came twice he changed the wiring and we called Sears back because it still kept tripping. They sent another washer and it worked so we all thought the first washer was defective. HOwever, the new washer and the dryer's color did not match so another dryer came. That dryer kept tripping the breaker.
We were disgusted so we decided, upon out builders suggestion, to have the Whirlpools taken back and we went to Sears and bought Kenmore. They are to be delivered next week. I pray they work !

I've just begun researching which appliances are rated best. The Bosch seem to be rated quite well but are pretty pricey. Then when I looked up Bosch on the web there was a web site with all of the complaints. It seems that even though there are dishwashers for 1,000 it doesn't mean it's good. I feel pretty vulnerable when choosing a brand. Never had to buy multiple appliances before. I think I've only purchased a fridge. I thought that May Tag was really good but I see Electrolux appliances rate higher. Electrolux??? I thought they only made vacuums. If you have appliances that have been true to you what are their brands?

Happinow, I doubt you'll find any overriding opinions that will point you to "The Perfect Appliances". For every set of positive perspectives, you'll have negative ones to offset them. Do all the research you want on the internet on any brand you'd choose and you'll probably conclude the same thing. No real clear winners.
I'd offer that Consumer Reports is probably the most viable source for unbiased, independent reviews of appliances and such. Buy their magazine(s) and/or subscribe - info available online via subscription only:

I agree.... There are going to be appliance that break down. It's the law of averages! I don't think I've EVER had a stove break down on me!!!!
Also, have the appliances that were installed in my home. They all seem pretty awesome to me....

We've been pondering this as well. I have read that some TOTV folk buy the bottom line appliances and then sell them. Good market in TV.
We really don't want go down that path. If we can get a credit and we can figure out what is better to buy then that would be the road we'll take.

We have spoken to a company named Delair that say they will credit about
$1K for the basic appliance package offered by TV, and change out the day after closing with the makes of our choice. I have asked them for a quote on different models and will report back when received.

I traded in all my appliances in the kitchen after we bought our place, got full credit and upgraded. I wish I had done it with the washer and dryer, don't forget about them. Had to have the BRAND NEW whirlpool washer repaired after using it the first time as it would not spin. It was fixed quickly but I wish I had upgraded them too. I think I used Delair.

Even if you didnt register your app. they should honor the CO and consider that as for warranty. Used to repair appl. and thats is what we did with the manufactures. Push it if need be

Most of the new Washer/Dryer have electronic controls. Low Voltage and voltage spikes can damage the controls. You may want to look at the "Speed Queen" W/D. They are made in US with steel gears, not plastic, and with old fashion controls. This may change in the new models because 2013 regulations require more "water management" features, that may require electronic controls.

Actually sorry I just saw I posted on here before with the same information. Anyway, I called Del Air, and they were very easy to deal with when I called. Ask for a Manager if you are being given a hard time. They were happy to take them back and get more $$$$ for the upgrades. I will look to see if I can find who I talked to and if I find it I will PM you.
