My lawn company does a basic cutting job; during the winter it does very little.

I pay monthy. Is it customary to pay the same monthly rate during the winter when little service is provided?

Yes. That is how most of the lawn companies work.

Yes, our lawn couple comes about every other week in the winter and that is just fine for us. They are on time every week in the summer.

Yes this is the most common way contracts are written. For a couple of months in the winter they mow less often but during the growing season, they will be mowing way more often. It all evens out. There are some companies who actually require up front payment for the entire year. This was simply unacceptable to us. There are many great companies doing a good job for a reasonable price. Don't be afraid to get several quotes. We use John Kirk, a very conscientious guy who offers excellent service at a great price.
