I've searched for a definite answer on this but can't find one.

If I understand it correctly, there are some arts and crafts classes held at different rec centers. Is there a fee for these classes, or does one just have to provide their own supplies?

I will be particularly interested in things like pottery, beading, painting, drawing, things along that line. Is this the type of thing that they have at the rec centers, or would that be the LLC?

Thanks!

Don't you read the "Rec. News" on thursday? Classes are listed with contact numbers for info. or call the Rec. Dept.

Thanks...but I am not in The Villages yet. I don't get the Rec news. Just thought someone already living in TV and participating in a class of this kind could provide a quick answer on whether or not there is a fee above and beyond cost of supplies.

Betti you're going to love the arts and crafts classes here in TV. I belong to a couple of watercolor classes and we pay a $20 annual fee. We use our own supplies; the classes are led by very knowlegeable instructors. Also the Life Long Learning College has art workshops that showcase international teachers for a reasonable price as well as ongoing classes of every type. I believe you can access the LLLC online (try googling it).

It seems like all the classes have different means of participation. Some supply supplies, other's you bring your supplies, some have yearly membership fee and it can go on. If you want me to check something specific let me know.

Thanks so much...that is good to know!! I'm happy to hear that there are classes available for a very reasonable fee. :coolsmiley:

I did print off some things from the LLLC site earlier today. Saw lots of things I'd be interested in if I had the time!

Go to the Village Daily Sun website and click under the Recreation header. You can download the Rec News supplement each week. The site also lists clubs and hobby groups, as does other Villages related sites. Google to find some and you will find all kinds of listings and information.
Enjoy your selected activities!:024:

Thanks for the offer to check on something, but no need to go to any trouble right now. I was just trying to get a general idea of how it worked so I would have the info for myself and to pass on to my sister and others as a way of enticing them to consider moving to TV also.

The information you provided is very helpful!

I know that the art classes at the rec centers are not supposed to have fees, but some instructors charge fees anyway in the form of supplies fees. Sometimes for printing a picture of the project. I think they all volunteer their time. I have heard people who do not like this since it is supposed to be "free". There are others who think that the volunteers should get reimbursement for their time.

It is sometimes a controversial area. The fees are generally low, like two dollars.

Good luck Betti with your dream to move to TV! We as well have that same dream. The Rec News is a great way to check and see what is being offered week to week for activities as a Villager. Gracie I must say I find you to be such a cheerful and positive resident that should make anyone anxious to become a "Frog"!!
I look forward to meeting you if we find ourselves in TV hopefully sometime this year. We have begun our process of choosing a Realtor and getting our home ready for Listing...Trying not to get too anxious and rush things but my innerself is way ahead of the reality of things:)
Wanting 2012 to be the Year!

Best of luck to you too! Hope 2012 is your year! I wish 2012 could be our year but I don't think that hubs can bring himself to retire that soon. He's having trouble setting a retirement date :ohdear:
