Let's see manual labor (??), minimum pay (??), little chance of leading to a full-time position and no benefits. It may put a little bit of money in your pocket, but not enough to live on if you're trying to raise a family and most seniors probably not physically able to do this job. Yes, there are jobs out there but are they ones that people can actually afford to take?

I agree, tell that to the people who live in the rust belt.

For the past two years, I have been looking for a part-time job, paying more than minimum wage (I have one of those now). I have had no luck at all and have chased after many potential jobs. For those where the prospective employer is accepting of all age applicants, the job candidates often number in the hundreds, and I am competing with people who are several decades younger.
It gets wearisome to hear of the ease with which people could find a job if they were really looking. I have been looking and have failed to find anything comparable to what I have now. I could write an article about what I have learned of the job market and how the reality differs from the general perception.
If anyone has any tips, direct knowledge, or insight that would help me to find a suitable job, please PM me privately. I will appreciate the help.
Please don't flame me. I'm just an old guy trying to find a job to earn money to pay his wife's medical bills that Medicare and private insurance does not cover.
