Wondering...are there any healthfood type grocery stores in close proximity to The Villages? I know there isn't a Whole Foods---but looking for some "good" organic items along with free-range type meats etc. Don't want to make the shopping trip a helter-skelter kind of deal neither.

Truthfully can say---haven't checked out the availability at Publix, Sweet Market etc. Just thought I'd run this past y'all! Thanks ahead of time!

Since the first of this year, I've decided to buy more organic, so I've been really looking at who has what. Publix has "Greenwise", and it's organized so you can find things organic easily. Fresh Market (on 466) has quite a bit of fresh vege's that are organic, but the rest of their products are scattered about the store, and I only saw chicken that was organic in the meat section. I don't know about Winn-Dixie? - haven't been there yet. And then there's WalMart which I also have not checked out. Would love to hear more from everyone.

Not all of the Publix stores in TV are Greenwise locations. The ones on Bella Cruz and Wedgewood are. There might be others, not sure.

The Fresh Market is small, but does carry some organic foods. I would love to have a Whole Foods and have emailed national headquarters (http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/company/regional.php) a couple of times to suggest it. Anyone interested can find the email address on the page I linked. There is also a Florida headquarters, but no email address is listed. The phone number is 954-489-2100. :icon_wink:

In some of the stores, the Greenwise is integrated throughout the store in the different categories of foods. They usually have a separate section within the category. At other stores the Greenwise has its own section. Can't remember which pattern is in which store. The meat section carries grass-fed beef (hamberger style) and Applegate products which are organic.

At Sweet Bay, there is less organic but there is a Natural Health section for boxed and canned goods. There is a gluten -free awareness and some organic apples and onions. Can't remember about the potatoes. I'm hoping that the Wildwood market might be better for produce, both local and organic.

When I went into Fresh Market, I was rather disappointed with the selection of organics, s I haven't returned. Marion Market is good for local but I don't know about organic. I use Publix the most and have found it very satisfactory, both in price and selection. I don't like running around too much for food. There are so many more fun things to do in TV than shopping for food. Now clothes shopping is another subject all together!

I went to the Wildwood Farmers Market today. They had some wonderful locally grown fruits and vegetables, but I do not know if they were organic. They also had meat from grass-fed animals. I have not tried that yet.

I don't wish to run around neither that's why I posted here. Have some food allergies and possibly celiac which would mean gluton-free. NOT fun!!! The memories of all the "good" foods eaten in the past don't help!!!

We have gone gluten free and are watching all grains in an effort to keep sugar at a minimum. The biggest challenge is to remember that we don't have to use food as a "treat".

The biggest bonus is that after much researching about the tight tendons in his feet, resulting in a bone spur and knee pain, my husband found out that at our age we all need adrenal support from the cortisol/insulin connection resulting from over-sugaring or "stress" from any source. He discovered that nutrients needed to keep the body in balance, were being leached from the tendons and ligaments when there was too much cortisol released from the adrenals over our lifetime. We often are unaware how much we stress our bodies.

After about 2 weeks of taking Adrenasense, an herbal adrenal support, his bone spur was gone after over 2 years of feeling crippled! He is also finding that his knee is getting better after many years of knee pain. He commented that "the body is such a complex organism and it is fascinating how all the different systems are interrelated and how much is related to food." We really are getting more and more that "We are what we eat". Now... to find other ways to "treat" ourselves!

There is a Mother Earth food market in Ocala on Silver Springs Blvd. Know that is not in TV but if you are up that way you may want to check it out.

A few months ago the Daily Sun had an article about an organic beef & pig farm up 301 (or was it 101?) from TV. I didn't save the article, but wish I had. Does anybody remember this?

Whole Foods is my favorite store of all times. Been going to them since they were Mrs. Gooch's in Los Angeles. Just returning from LA, where the stores are in abundance and I've been loving it.

The 2 stores in Orlando are not too far and if you really have food allergies, I would think a trip a few times a month shouldn't be that hard to do. I haven't been to the Orlando stores, but have been to the one in Tampa and Sarasota. Both are fantastic.

I have an allergy to chicken and fish, most restaurants and stores still use those meats with chemicals and steroids (I believe but I have no proof of this except my own experience). I get a rush in my face and throat if these meats have this... the Publix Greenwise still give me a rush, I found the chickens at Fresh Market did not.

This week in LA, I ate all chicken, turkey and fish from Whole Foods and never experienced the problem.

This is just an FYI from a long time patron of Whole Foods Markets.

Going to Orlando to grocery shop isn't an option but thanks for the information! It may only be an hour or so from here but multiply that by shopping and the trip back along with the cost of gas---don't think so. Maybe we all need to make a petition to WF and hope for the best.

I recall passing that farm on a recent motorcycle ride. I believe it was north on US 301.

:coolsmiley: KathieI,

Please send a request to Whole Foods to consider a TV location. If enough of us do, perhaps they will do a market study. If they do a market study, I suspect they will come. :)

We buy Greenwise items from Colony Cottage Publix, organic meat, beans, chips from Winn Dixie, organic vegetable from Fernando's farm on 42.
(From Lake Sumter Landing, go north on Buena Vista, left on Rainey Trail, north or right at 301, left on 42 to Padre, go past Baptist church on left, farm is on right and hasa small very small sign-organic vegetables. If you get to Padre grocery, you've gone to far. Back up and it's 30 feet back.)
Best,Carol

My husband just found this list as he was researching this morning, and I thought it was worth sharing. How can we think that the FDA is trying to help us stay healthy?! And it is harder to read labels when the print gets smaller and smaller. I find it all so devious and it makes dining out even harder. At least this is a good start.

Hubby and I went up to Ocala yesterday afternoon, so we made a side trip to the Earth Origins Market to check it out. Everything in the small market is geared toward natural, organic, gluten-free, etc. Also a section for cosmetics/soaps, and vitamins/supplements, etc. No fresh meat counter, but packaged organic lunchmeats, hot dogs, and a freezer section also. Some bulk items too. Its about 2 miles east of 27/441/301 on Silver Springs road (SR 40). Their website is: earthoriginsmarket.com

I travel to Al Rosas farms north of Ocala for all my meat, prices are good and everything is grass fed and "organic". Browns Market is where I get all my produce, they even carry unpasteurized Milk. Fresh Market is all we have for now although they do carry grass fed beef and a carry a small section of Greenwise meats.

I also heard of an organic market from a very good source. I beleive she said it was on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Unfortunately in my hurry I have forgotten, if someone know about this let us know. I thought she may have said toward Fruitland?? but I am not sure.

Donna Wormser from Blue Meadows Farm has an organic stand at the farmers market in Spanish Springs on Thursday and Brownwood on Saturday. She has a wide array of organic fruit and vegetables at very reasonable prices. i.e a head of romaine lettuce $2 and 3 red or green peppers for $2. She also has free range chicken eggs for $3 a dozen. And for you people looking for 100% grass fed cattle there is a stand there for that too. It's name is Pasture Prime Family Farm.

I once asked Whole Foods if their beef were grass fed and they told me they guarantee that their cattle are fed grass for the first 75% of their lives. Huh?

Thanks, GHT. This is good to know. I'm glad you posted that the pickup day is Thursday, because there is no pickup day or time on the website that I could find. You don't happen to know the time, do you?

Green Wise in Publix is not always organic. You have to ask about each item. I had wanted to buy some beef that had that label and it was not organic.
