I must have pushed the wrong button somewhere when I had too many fingers on it while it was on but I wasn't using it. Now I can't get any verbal instructions. Can anybody help? Thanks in advance.

Oh Dearie, I completely understand how you feel. My late husband wouldn't talk to me either. I hope you two can work it out soon.

So you didn't want to print out the 76 pages for the instruction manual?:icon_wink: This new technology now requires the purchaser to go to the web site and use up a ream of paper to get the information on how to use the thing that you just purchased. Now how's that for a great setup? Wouldn't you think everyone would want the instruction manual included!!!!!!! So I looked up your problem in one of my 76 pages and you have to go to tools and you can restore all of the factory settings there. You can even get different language settings and male or female voice directions. Our old Magellan she was affectionaly known as "The Bitch":)

Click on Volume and make sure you did not accidently hit the mute button.

My Magellan has a reset button - a tiny hole that you punch with a stylus or a ballpoint pen - puts it back to factory settings. Used it once when the thing went completely dead.

The documented cause for this is three things, some times done at once.

1. Yelling and cursing at the lady who is directing you.

2. Ignoring the lady who is directing you.

3. Giving the lady who is directing you a weird name.

When this occurs there is an automatic shut off.

You guys have such great senses of humor. I'll try the suggestions. I'd love to hear "the voice" say what she's really thinking. There would be a lot of @$%%^&&*(( words in her vocabulary. What the (blank) is the matter with you (blank) people. How many (blank) times do I have to (blank) tell you how to go. Stop (blank) (blank) with me.

You might have put the GPS on mute. I do not have one at hand but look for the tools and system icon. Try those options and you might be able to find a picture of a speaker and that should turn the sound on and off.

On an old model I have holding down the on off button brings up the volume control.

On my Nuvi, when you turn it on and get to the screen that asks "Where to?" there is a speaker icon on the right. If I tap that, there is an adjustment for the volume. Also, on that first screen, there is an icon of a wrench. When you tap that there is a list of settings. Tap Navigation and there are some adjustments you can make. One is for voice prompts. Make sure that is set to Guidance or Guidance/Status. Hope this helps.

Here's what happened. When I had it on and carrying it around, my finger somehow got to the area where you tell it how you want to hear it. I turned on FM Transmitter. I finally found that area on the Garmin and changed it back to where it should have been. Thanks for your suggestions.

JoC:

Your Nuvi has larygitis!!!!! :) Seriously, follow mike's suggestion. All else fails hit the "reset" button.

BTW - Born and raised in Yonkers on Waverly Street and Park Hill Ave. Where did you live?

I lived at 266 Park Hill Ave. The house was up a lot of stairs and looked like a castle. I went to PS 13 Annex and Hawthorne Jr. High before we moved. I had cousins who lived on Rockland Ave. My best friend lived on Hillside Ave off Park Hill. This was in the early '50s,
