Golf Cart Insurance

Is insurance on golf carts really needed?? Had a policy for last 6 years at 65.00 a year. Just received new premium, that was raised to 103.00. I thought that was too much, so I called Insurance Co. ( Insurance Agency @ Southern Trace) They said that everyone was getting increased, but they would see what they could do. They called back and asked what cart was worth today/ I bought cart new for 8,000.00 in 2006, but probabvly only worth 4,000.00 now. After another phone call to Insurance Co (Foremost Ins Co) she called me back and can insure cart for 72.00, with cart worth 4,000.00. She said thats probably what they would pay anyway. My thought was, if cart decreases every year, then insurance should to.:coolsmiley:

I've always thought the same for automobile insurance - vehicle ages so the rate should go down. Not sure they do, though.

I think collision and comprehensive coverage rates would go down since they're driven off the specific vehicle that's covered. But the other parts probably won't (liability, medical payments).

You definately need insurance on your golf car. What if someone stepped in front of you at the grocery store and you bumped them. It might not be your fault but it would cost you a ton of money to defend yourself. As far as insurance going down in price as the car, truck, golf car or motorcycle ages, the majority of claims are not total losses. Therefore a fender or whatever costs more than it did when you bought the vehicle however many years ago. That is why you rarely see a decrease in premium unless it is a soft market, which does not happen that often.

You definitely need BI and UM on your golf cart. We have several clients who were injured when a car collided with the golf cart. Florida is a no-fault state so the most insurance a vehicle has to have is $10,000. If you're hit by a car in your golf cart, your medical bills are going to be a lot more than $10,000. I have the exact coverage on my automobile as I do on my golf cart. Please protect yourself.

I wouldn't be without insurance. I have a 49cc motor scooter back in Maryland that doesn't require tags or insurance. $75 per year for insurance gives me peace of mind. I'll be in the market for a golf cart right after we settle on our new house on Feb 22.

No fault does not apply to golf carts. (they are classified as an off road vehicles by law). Your liability exposure is the same as if you were driving your auto. Your limits carried should reflect your financial exposure. Standard premium is around $60.00 year but could be higher if you choose additional coverage's that are available.

After years of living on the edge I just paid for golf cart insurance, policy being written today.

I have one question about an assumption I made. I turned down the UM (uninsured motorist) part of a policy. If I understand UM, it is to cover MY medical payments in the event an uninsured person hits and injured my wife or me.

I turned it down as I have a very good health insurance plan which should cover all my injuries. Am I missing something obvious about UM?

You got that right AJ, I haven had UM for many years and never had a problem. Do what you fell is right.
