1. Guns have only two enemies, rust and politicians.
2. It’s always better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6.
3. Cops carry guns to protect themselves, not you.
4. Never let someone or something that threatens you get inside arms length.
5. Never say, “I’ve got a gun.” If you need to use deadly force, the first sound they hear should be the safety clicking off.
6. The average response time of a 911 call is 23 minutes; the response time of a .357 is 1400 feet per second.
7. The most important rule in a gunfight is: Always win – cheat if necessary.
8. Make your attacker advance through a wall of bullets . . . You may get killed with your own gun, but he’ll have to beat you to death with it, because it’ll be empty.
9. If you’re in a gunfight:
- If you’re not shooting, you should be loading.
- If you’re not loading, you should be moving.
- If you’re not moving, you’re dead.
10. In a life and death situation, do something . . . It may be wrong, but do something!
11. If you carry a gun, people call you paranoid. Nonsense! If you have a gun, what do you have to be paranoid about?
12. You can say ‘stop’ or ‘alto’ or any other word, but a large bore muzzle pointed at someone’s head is pretty much a universal language.
13. You cannot save the planet, but you may be able to save yourself and your family.

Richie, I could hardly agree more.
A few more lines I've heard.
Depending on a cop to protect you from crime is like depending on a tow truck to keep you from getting into an accident (and I like cops).
Also - with #3 you might add a sub-text: A *soldier* carries a gun to protect you.

I like your additions. I didn't write these rules though, I got them from an online article which is linked. The columnist didn't know the author of the "13 rules" either, but decided to print them and I did likewise.

I can understand why some people want a handgun or long gun - as that is their right. I cannot understand WHY anyone would want to carry a handgun while in The Villages. I do not understand why someone would admit they are not going to be friendly to anyone.
This is the attitude we want to experience in The Villages? I hope not.

To bad we aren't able to ask the women who where friendly to Ted Bundy. If you will stop and think about those two statements, they will keep you alive and well. Then once you get to know the person, then you can be friendly.

just view that carrying a concealed weapon in TV is no different than having home owners or flood or hurricane or auto or golf cart insurance....
we all have them and hope we NEVER have to use them....the intentions of those who carry is exactly the same....no difference at all.

Anyhow, "Be friendly to no one." is certainly not my motto. I am sorry it is yours. I do not think is not The Villages way, either.
Figmo or Billkid or Baylor or anyone else - why not post your 21 Rules of a Gunfight on the Newcomer's page to Talk of the Villages or the General Discussion forum? See what kind of comments you receive or how others might view The Villages if they saw there are gun-carrying people in The Villages with the rule of "Be Friendly to No One".

I merely pointed out to you and anybody else the false impression being conveyed about who carries and why.
The same people who have concealed weapons permit any where else in the USA come to TV and do the same. It is not fodder for gun preference or not any more than to have insurance or not.
To each his own on one's preference about gun ownership. If there is a common understanding without the need for an R or D it is the understanding gun owners have. To make it sound like a negative aspect is very uninformed, extremely narrow, biased thinking.
Just like one's choice of religion or politics....it just isn't an element in thinking peoples consideration of living in TV or any where else.
It is fine to have one's own opinions but please why the constant negative snipping when an issue does not line up with your preferences??

I only had one gun in my hands and that was while at Naval Basic Training. I am not opposed to guns and have thought about purchasing one for some time.
the rules posted by Richielion and Figmo in isolation appear extreme however if confronted by a felon, etc suddenly they make a lot of sense.
It is a mistake to believe that ____________________location (you fill in the city/town) is safe. Crime and crimnals have no borders. Too often it is being in the wrong place at the wrong time orcoming across the wrong person.

When the time comes that you wish you were armed...............well, enough said.............am I right or am I right?

I've never owned a gun nor do I want to. And I am sure I will be villified for this but somehow I think that those who carry concealed handguns, consciously or unconsciously, desire an opportunity to use them.
I think it's very brave to say you wouldn't have a gun. It would be a great public service to announce this to the world so they can celebrate you.
How about posting this sign to your front door.

I am not opposed to guns either. The Villages is very, very safe. I walk around late at night and early in the morning (while wearing reflective vest) and feel 100% safe. I would not have thought of doing that in the Washington DC suburb I came from.
Is it possible to have violent crime in The Villages? Yes - but only violent crime I can remember during my time here was from a domestic arguement between two former police officers and both had handguns. She shot her husband in the shower and he climbed naked out the bathroom window. I don't want a gun in my house - I don't have a bathroom window.
There was also an unproven (with many variations to the story) attempted armed robbery at The Villages Hospital parking lot.
If there are only two violent crimes in over two years, this is an extremely safe place - and carrying a handgun is not necessary. Yes, I know someone will say this is because the "criminals know Villagers are armed and ready for them". Bullhockey - as Col. Sherman Potter would say.

sorta like telling the cops there are places where it is not necessary for them to carry their gun because one place is safer than another?!?!
Concept? Insurance (any kind) = just in case = carrying a weapon = just in case = why cops carry a weapon regardless how safe the area = just in case.
