There was one once but it closed. We on TOTV discussed starting a new LI club and I was going to try to put something together. But because I am a snowbird and am having lots of company over the next few months, I feel I don't have time to spend to get something going. There was lots of interest and a LI club should be successful but unless someone else takes charge, forming one will have to wait until next year. What part of LI are you from, Murfice?

We are from North Babylon and are snowbirds also

i am from deer park!! maybe we could just have a big Long Island party one evening? all it takes is to get a room at a rec center near you, reserve a night and post it on here and maybe in the recreation news! a monthly club is a lot of work and the last club folded because of lack of help, but a one-time party, with everyone bringing pot luck, and maybe some ice breakers for everyone to be forced to mingle, could be a lot of fun....ideas anyone?

From the previous thread about LI clubs, the posts and PM's I received tell me there is much interest. Your idea of one meeting is a lot less troublesome than a monthly commitment. If people agree, I will check with Sterling Heights or Fishhawk Rec Centers and see if we can be given a room near the end of the month. Are we interested. Can I ask for a room big enough to fit 30 people?

A show of hands... Who is interested? I don't want to book a room and be the only person to show up.

IF is a big word. But I believe we will need a large room. I'll look into it before the end of the weekend.

That is a good question... When I approach the rec centers...what day do I try to book? I fear a weekend room might be not available. I suppose an evening meeting is better... A shame The Villages do not have an Eisenhower Park where we could all just gather at either the picnic area or at the stage. It wouldn't matter if twenty people showed up or a hundred. There would be plenty of room.

And yes, this could be a yearly event. I'll keep everyone posted to let you know what is available and when. And like Cha Cha said, once we have a date, we can spread the word. Maybe fellow Long Islander, Billy Joel could stop by and supply the entertainment.

I am working on it, but with company visiting until Monday I will be unable to do much until then. I already have a backup plan if the original plan doesn't pan out. Please be patient.

Friends and I were just discussing Riverhead. Growing up in Brooklyn, we had a house in Riverhead, Flanders Rd, and we would go there for most of the summer. My parents rented these cabins that were on the property. There wasn't much to do there then but we had good times.

Hey Frank, I'm from Commack! not to far from Dix Hills. Any ideas on what a 1993 Ez-go golf cart would sell for?

I have encountered some serious health issues and my desire to start the Long Island Club is on hold. Eventually, when I'm more "betterior" I will get something going. But it might not be until early next year. The idea of a LI chat room sounds like a good idea. We can also do something not so formal and meet somewhere and at least get the ball going. A few rec centers have a picnic area and we can just meet there and get to know each other. Any one interested? PS: I grew up in East Meadow and later lived in Ronkonkoma. My wife is from Patchogue.

How about next Saturday or Sunday for a brunch around 10:00? We could meet perhaps at the picnic tables at Sterling Heights, or any of the others. Bring a small dish to share before it gets too hot?

Sounds good to me. Give me a day to think about it and time to get out a new post to gather the LI people. It should work.

Wasn't Eisenhower Park something? One of the things I miss about Nassau County. That and Borrelli's on Hempstead Tpk. and Merrick Avenue.

We will have to create our own park down here...maybe NassSuff Park to combine the two counties.

A quick show of hands. Will Saturday May 5 around 11:00 work for everyone to have a Long Island meeting. Nothing formal but it will be something to get our feet wet with. Before anything is definite, I will need to clear it with Sterling Heights officials. I don't see a problem but it would be better to make sure. If the meeting is a go, I will pick up name tags. Linandvin have offered to help out. Again... who can make it?

I would have loved to go to your last get together, but it started a little too early for me.

I grew up in Smithtown, as an adult lived in Medford & Mt Sinai. Had family in East Meadow, spent a lot of time there, actually cut my first (and only) record at Jolly Rogers-LOL.

Are there any plans to having a Long Island Club Meeting this year?

Highly unlikely. I will be returning to LI in early May. My next month is busy with visitors and things to do. I want to get the LI Club going again but this time around it wasn't possible. All I can suggest is when I run into a void in my schedule I can give short notice and those around can meet somewhere. Even at Cripsers or another eatery if we cant reserve a room.

There are enough Long Islanders to fill the Savannah Center. Just need more time to get the wheels in motion. WE can shoot for April if the response is good enough. Anyone interested. PS: Last year 28 people showed up in the one meeting we had. AND it was held after the snowbirds flew north. Imagine during the snowbird season what size turnout we could have.

Okay. I will try to put something together for the first week of July. My schedule is hectic but I'd like to arrange something before the snowbirds are gone. Last time we got together was after the birds flew to coupe and we still managed to have 28 people show ...with very short notice. Not sure if we can arrange a meeting place so we might have to meet at Crispers or something. Hopefully, we can make these meetings more often in future. But for now lets just get the feel of what kind of interest we would have. Sorry...for now, its the best arrangements I can come up with. Keep checking in on this thread.
