Yesterday the Republican party left me. Speaker Boehner, who I have been highly critical of for non conservative leadership, put the final nail in republican support by true conservatives. He announced that the Republican party will support the continuation of the TEMPORARY employment tax reduction (which funds social security which is already headed for bankruptcy), WITHOUT paying for it in any way. He blamed the dems for refusing to bargain on the payment issue so he just handed them the white flag and surrendered. Republicans have promised repeatedly that they would save us from the debt and deficit. They never did. Now they are openly agreeing to bust the budget, and their excuse is the since the dems wont do the right thing and save the nations finances.. neither will they.
I urge all republicans to leave the party, and write editorials stating exactly why.

The payroll tax pays for Social Security. So what have both the Republicans and Democrats agreed to? Reducing the financing of Social Security without changing it's benefits one iota. Hey, what the heck, if Social Security sinks even more under water we can just borrow future payments to retirees from the Chinese.

I'm guessing it's just an election year decision to eliminate an issue the liberal dominated national media would have used to bludgeon the Republicans prior to this election.

After the election, things could change. Either way, there's no chance on me doing anything but voting Republican.

Congress is divided, Republican House Democrat Senate. I am not mad at Republicans nor Democrats but because of a system that has become so divided that we can't get things done. However, while I do not agree with some of the positions the Republicans have taken I certainly do not agree with any of the positions the Democrats have asserted. so where does one go.......You say independent....well I personally believe most folks are independent thinkers anyway.

This is going to be a major battle for the very soul of this country and we cannot allow Obama a second term because he has everything to gain and nothing to lose in re-structuring our Constitution to fit his idealogy. He must be stopped so don't lose your cool. Politics is messy..stay the course....keep saying to yourself over and over again... defeat Obama in November

By saying the FICA Contributions to the Social Security Pension System are really taxes, the politicians, mainly Democract Party, have taken Social Security from a system that people who worked under it, made contributions of 15% to the fund and were getting back the money they paid in with interest. But, now it is a tax so Social Security payments are welfare. They have broken the tie between the money people contributed into like a modern day IRA or 401K, to just another tax.

Remember this. When people say a new tax would replace income taxes and payroll taxes. Why should retired people continue to pay into Social Security.
It is bad enough that some of it is taxed.

I am not going to get Social Security as I was under a different system, CSRS. Similarly, my cousin, who worked for PRR, doesn't get any SS, he gets RR retirement. The money I paid into FICA when working for private companies doesn't get me any benefits.

Actually its considered a sinister plot on the liberal side. Also tied to the payroll tax issue was the further extentsion of unemployement benefits and the doc fix which will stop a forced reduction in payments for Medicare doctors.

At least that is what I heard on MSNBC this morning .... I watch Morning Joe when I have access.

Do you remember the term "mad money" That amount set aside for your personal use to dispose as you saw fit. Well like many of you ,my wife and I had forefeited that amount and placed it in savings, investment etc.

Do you know what politicians call mad money "taxes" "fees", "tariffs:, "campaign money" etc In other words any source of revenue to politicians. So since it is "mad money" you now know how politicians mis-spent it. How do you stop this madness? Push on cuts in spending, reduction in taxes and responsible and realistic budgeting and above all elimination for any quid pro quo arrangements. How do you get their attention support your local Tea Party... What should you not do? Don't rely on AARP
