Many years ago when I was up coming in the industry that I worked in an older supervisor told me to come up with a major problem within our manufacturing process think of a complete solution to that problem then cause the problem and then when no else could solve it you save the day and look like a hero. Happens every day. That is pretty much our government today. It is so messed up that when the governing bodies feed us there solution and can show it to be better we will welcome it with open arms you have nothing to say .

Unfortunately from a "performance" aspect we have come to expect little from our government. Part of the problem is that government doesn't approach a problem the same as they do in private industry. Secondly they are not invested because they are not using their money, can't be fired for poor performance and do not include in their equation "profit."
Essentially this is why we should have less government involvement, etc.
The country could make great advances with the elimination of the Depts of Education, Energy, EPA Fannie/Freddie and several sub depts that long ago ended their reason for existing. I also include the Fed because the Fed has gone beyond what it was designed to do.

This country stopped being a free country with limited government control with the passage of the 17th Amendment. If you don't know what it is, look it up, explains lots of why the government is only for the government and no longer a government of "We The People."
Might be time to make a change and do away with the 17th Amendment like we did with the 18th Amendment that was changed by the 21st Amendment. Bring back control of the Federal Government to the States.

I agree with returning control of individual states with a few exceptions (military). However what would you do with the17th Amendment dismiss all 50 senators? If we did would your depend only on House Representatives to coordinate and look out as to what was going on in Washington? Would Congress then consist of Represenatatives only?

I see that you did not read how Senators were pick before the 17th Amendment. So here is how it worked before the 17th.
The governor of each state would nomiate two individuals to be that states senators, then the state legisature would approve or reject his nominations. The senators worked at the pleasure of the governor and if they did not do as the people of the state wanted they could and were recalled by the governor and replaced. If the governor was not doing his job then the people of that state could recall and replace the governor who would then appointed or keep the current senators. Worked really well until the passage of the 17th Amendment and the states lost control of their representation by the senators. Now not one of the senators has any control and they do as they please not as the state that elected them wants them to do, IE., voting for and passing Obamacare. Get the picture now.

Ummm.. The PEOPLE of that state vote the Senator in.
I'm not being facetious here - but do you know WHY the 17th Amendment was passed?
